Boomer was a great dog. At 16 years old he still had amazing teeth.
He ostensibly belonged to Joe Sudbay of AmericaBlog, but if you saw the two of them together there was no doubt about who belonged to whom.
Boomer was a feisty little fellow who couldn’t see very well at the end but he had a great spirit and a wonderful heart. He loved Joe and his partner Carlos and it was sweet to see the way they all took care of each other.
They were a family.
I knew Boomer had been diagnosed with lung cancer recently, and he had good days and bad days. Some times he wanted to go to the park, and some times he didn’t. He always let Joe know.
John called today to say that Boomer was having a tough week and he was ready to go. You always worry that you won’t know when the time is right, but Boomer let Joe know that it was time.
I feel happy for Joe that he got to hold Boomer while he passed peacefully in his own chair in his own house. I worry that the end for my dogs will be so very hard to live through but even worse would be leaving them and not being able to be there for them to comfort them and help them pass comfortably and without being afraid. I want to be able to care for them to the end.
Please say a prayer for little Boomer. He was a lovely little guy and I miss him very much already.
The dogs and I are lighting a candle for Boomer tonight.

“Lord make me as good as my dog thinks I am”
Raised three daughters on 8o acres and had four main dogs (three lived until over 12) At one point my kids had 18 dogs on the property. (they picked up 14 pound rescue dogs for a period of time). Had a hard time saying no and a hard time paying for the dog food bills. Saying good bye to family members is tough stuff.
Most dogs are the best
