A few days ago I published a diary on the planned wild horse extermination. It’s still on the Latest Diaries index. There are a lot of research links in the comments there. I’ve done more research since then and the fire in my belly grew considerably.
In reading the titles now on the Oxdown Index, it’s plain to see that this video expresses the determination of many of the pups here at FDL about a wide range of subjects facing us in these "parlous" times.
Enjoy.

As the day goes on, the earlier post will prolly drift off the front page, so here’s the link to it (or one could click on acquarius’ name)
Thanks, Elliott – sorta feeling like THWI this morning. Sorry, best hush now…
Don’t lose spirit now…
Never!
Here is another YouTube video in which an on-the-scene, man of experience and knowledge about this issue tells it like it is, i.e., OIL, privately owned cattle grazing on public land (8 million), yet it is all the fault of about 40,000 wild horses who are supposed to be protected by law. BTW, the BANKS are also involved…surprised?
There are a Senate bill and a House bill pending in our “Jawbone” congress:
H.R. 503/S. 727 Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act
There’s a hole in it big enough to drive a Mack truck through in the segment which prevents horses being slaughtered for human consumption. I haven’t found any statement in that act that prevents horses from being slaughtered for dog food, which is what “the killers” were doing with horsemeat back in the early 1990’s when I attended horse auctions in TX. [I hope I’m dead wrong on this!]
Thank you again for continuing to raise this topic.
Thank you, Mary. BTW, do you know if Jim White is on vacation? Normally he’d be on this in a NY minute, and doing a much better job than I.
Here’s a great link for wild horse info, blog, factual data & GREAT photos! There really is a grass roots support for protection & care of wild horses— we just need to keep helping them keep it all on the front burner (so to speak) in order to keep public awareness at a maximum & help prevent abuses & slaughter of these magnificent animal-humans.

Author Michael Blake (of “Dances w/ Wolves” fame) has written a new book that was just released on 6/15/09 titled “Twelve The King” about a wild stallion that he saved from slaughter & how the horse impacted / changed / & affected his whole being & way of living. See this link to a short video & info as done by Michael Blake & then review the blog / links below video for excellent resource links etc.
There are horse people & then there are “HORSE PEOPLE!” –it gives strength to the heart when you understand how many really, truly, fine people do support the wild horses….
OOps… forgot the link on M.Blake:

Thanks for weighing in, tx49holdem. The pics and info are really good at this link. Refutes much of the propaganda in the BLM documents released to the Conquistador Group. (link at my last wild horse diary).
Speaking of HORSE PEOPLE, for the new crowd that’s moving in here at Oxdown (which is getting a new name) there are some strong ones here, Mary (the attorney who mostly blogs at EmptyWheel) and Jim White among
themus. Jim must have been on vacation as he hasn’t commented on my wild horse rants.Going to more of your links now.
Seconded.
Recommended.
Support your efforts AQ74 but I do think it is a sign of the times when the deaths of wild horses gets far far more attention than the hundreds of thousands of deaths of Iraqi people that our nation is directly responsible for.
have a friend who saves horses will make sure she knows what is going on and lead her to your links and post

thanks, acquarius … so many fresh and ongoing hells burning….
Thank you, Leen. I totally agree; humans come first with all people who possess a soul. On the torture front our Jawbone congress talks and talks and writes stern letters – and have accomplished exactly nothing! They’ve seen pictures and films of these horrors, yet when the day is over they go home to festive dinners and parties. No, not all, we do have a precious few who are fighting.
As for the wild horses and burros, we do have a chance to save them. A group of combined rescue organizations are gathering in Wash DC next Tuesday, 07/14/09, to pressure congress to pass the two bills HR503/S.727 now pending. Back in 1971 when the last Equine protection Act was passed there was not a single nay vote in the entire House and Senate. Quite a change in moral principles since then, wouldn’t you say?
Thanks for contacting your horse loving friend.
Yes, Libby; see Jim White’s diary today on Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. Bush, Cheney, Rummy and all their gang of thugs should be standing trial, not this lone, frail, tortured woman from whom they have stolen her children.
Hey, Boo; as always – thanks so much for your dependable support.
