On today’s www.democracynow.org the headlines announced that the troop increase for Afghanistan is now to be around 60,000 instead of McChrystal’s requested 40,000 additional troops. During the break that followed this haunting music played, Sarah Thompson’s "Is It For Freedom?"

I’ve searched for more info on the number of additional troops. Here is the quote from http://www.DemocracyNow.org
Whatever the decision is, I hope it is a really brilliant, realistic strategy with an achievable exit plan.
Your first link does not go to the right place. It is for freedom..the freedom to exploit Afghanistan’s vast natural resources. One of the poorest countries in the world is being robbed by the US and China. Forget the cover story of searching for a dead Osama.
*******
“The US Geological Survey estimates there are 700 billion cubic metres of gas and 300 million tons of oil in Afghanistan. Afghan Mining Minister Mohammad Ibrahim Adel said there are also significant deposits of copper, iron, gold, coal — as well as emeralds and rubies. Already in the pipeline is the exploitation of one of the world’s biggest copper deposits 20 miles east of Kabul. Adel said a 30-year lease with the China Metallurgical Group is being finalized to mine more than 11 million tons of copper worth $88 billion that would create 5,000 jobs five years from now. However, the colossal Aynak project represents only a fraction of Afghanistan’s unexploited resources. The USGS is carrying out a nationwide survey of mineral wealth and oil and gas deposits that is expected to be completed in a year. Adel said: “In 10 years Afghanistan will be the richest country in the region. “

“In November 2007, the Karzai government in Afghanistan in collaboration with NATO forces auctioned the huge Aynak copper deposit under the US Agency for International Development (USAID) plan and arbitrarily awarded the mining rights to Chinese state enterprise, China Metallurgical Group, for $3.5 billion.
The NATO forces, in conjunction with the Afghan government thought it would be too risky for a private enterprise to undertake the massive infrastructure project as well as develop the Aynak copper deposit, which is spread over a vast area of hostile Taliban territory.
The Taliban has moved into the outskirts of Kabul after China was awarded the mining rights for the Aynak copper reserve and in the beginning of the year, and the US army deployed more than 2,000 soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division to the Logar and Wardak regions of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has traditionally been endowed with gems and semi-precious stones, metals, and marble, and the US Geological Survey (USGS) report of 2002 showed that there were more than 1,000 deposits.
Among the minerals found in the survey were substantial amounts of gold, copper, iron, mercury, lead, and rare metals such as cesium, lithium, niobium, and tantalum. “

” In this Taliban stronghold in the mountains south of Kabul, the U.S. Army is providing the security that will enable China to exploit one of the world’s largest unexploited deposits of copper, earn tens of billions of dollars and feed its voracious appetite for raw materials.
U.S. troops set up bases last month along a dirt track that a Chinese firm is paving as part of a $3 billion project to gain access to the Aynak copper reserves. Some troops made camp outside a compound built for the Chinese road crews, who are about to return from winter break. U.S. forces also have expanded their presence in neighboring Logar province, where the Aynak deposit is. “

blue, I’ll study your info and links tomorrow, my capacity to learn more about the secret USA passed overfill early this morning. I fear we know very little about the real manipulations going on behind those closed doors. I don’t think it’s for the good of the people, America, or the world but to enrich those powerful, greedy few who control the strings of all the wooden-headed puppets in DC. The televised hearings are a deception to make the people think we are being allowed to know what our congress is doing – hooey, the real deals are behind closed doors and we maybe will learn something (at least the tragic results) about it 30 years from now.
Our govt surely is afraid of its people, huh? That’s the first and best sign of their guilt. IMHO.
Sorry, blue, I only gave the link to DemocracyNow. The song there begins at 25:46 and there is no video. I forgot to give the link to the YouTube where I embedded the video. Will go get it now.
blue, here is the link to the video posted in the diary.
“”…a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is afraid of its people.” President John F. Kennedy, 1962 “
Thanks. That video is truth to power in a big way. Enough, already. Somehow, the media must be forced to tell the truth to the American people. I can see no other way to stop this slaughter of human beings. Oh, the shock, awe, and complaints when one photo of a dying soldier was shown recently. Where the hell have all the photos of the dead, dying, and blown apart people gone? Sanitized war is so convenient for the MIC and the politicians. The reality of the victims of war must be shown to wake people up.
Everyone can be part of a movement to enlighten the dumbed down masses who believe that the MSM tells the truth. Start putting pictures and website urls up at libraries and bulletin boards at malls, etc. A cheap, easy, and quick way to get reality in front of people’s eyes. Hundreds of photos are available on the web to print off; it only takes one to make an impact. A picture is worth a thousand words. A small start, perhaps, but how else to bridge the gap between knowledge on the web and the profit driven MSM?
You do pack a punch, blue. Watch for my next diary. Got to eat something before tackling it.
thanks aquarius74. that’s one of my favorite songs of the last few years (i heard it first on democracy now! too — i think they’ve played it occasionally ever since the iraq invasion). here are the lyrics:
Is It For Freedom?
by Saraa Thomsen
Rulers of the nations as you fuss and fight
Over who owns this or that and who has the right
To design, build, sell and store and fire
All the bombs and guns to defend your holy empire
There are children hungry, children sick and dying
There are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers crying
They’re only pawns in your play of power and corruption
Slowly starve them, your new weapon of mass destruction
And prove to me, America, that you care
And prove to me, America, you’re aware
Who’s dying for your freedom in this land
Who pays the cost for the liberties you demand
Is it for freedom, or our comfort and convenience
Is it to profit for big business we pledge our allegiance
Are we prisoners in the land of the brave and the bold?
Held by indifference or hearts grown hard and cold (refrain)
Children of the world, you have the right
To sing and dance, run and play, let your dreams take flight
As the innocent die you rulers carry the shame
And if we stand idly by we share in the blame
And oh, America, do we care
Oh, America, are we aware
Who’s dying for our comfort in this land
Who pays the cost for the convenience we demand?
Children of the world, you have the right
To sing and dance, run and play, let your dreams take flight
Thank you, selise. It’s good to hear from you. And thanks for the words to the song; saved to disk. I can’t really explain all the effects that song has on me…what we used to be, believe in; what we have allowed ourselves to become. Worse than a funeral.
thanks for the lyrics, selise.
Talk about a guilty chill.
Irony is not dead. When Saddam switched from the dollar to the euro, Iraq was invaded. So, now what is the US going to do?
*******
“You may remember that among the million and one reasons why we may have “really” gone into Iraq was this one, embraced mostly by alleged conspiracy theorists and silly leftists who thought that the invasion might have something to do with oil and the dollar:
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) — A U.N. panel on Monday approved Iraq’s plan to receive oil-export payments in Europe’s single currency after Baghdad decided to move the start date back a week.
Members of the Security Council’s Iraqi sanctions committee said the panel’s chairman, Dutch Ambassador Peter van Walsum, would inform U.N. officials on Tuesday of the decision to allow Iraq to receive payments in euros, rather than dollars. “

Freedom hell, were in Afghanistan to support the poppie crop, so the Wall Street Bankers can import it here to us. What’s a few thousand troops to the money they can make from the Heroin.
yes, iremember54, that’s the real foundation of the Poppy Bush fortune. Mike Ruppert was the first to alert me to the connection between cocaine, money laundering, the CIA and the dependence of the Wall Street banksters on the money from drugs.
It goes back to the early Skull and Bones days. The Russell Trust Association (S and B) ran heroin on clipper ships (because they were the fastest) from South Asia (Afghanistan) to China and got the Chinese hooked and led to the Heroin Wars, which had an added bonus of getting them into the arms trade
How far back do the Skull & Bones fraternity go? Don’t know about the Russell Trust; do know somewhat of the opium wars (the ancient ones, that is). Will study up, thanks.
Have you read the J Edgar Hoover book I mentioned in comments at my last diary?
1832..

Edit is not my friend. I will figure out how to use it one of these days.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Skull_and_Bones_members
Read the wiki here on the Russell Trust. Sure clears up on the opium inside track the Bush ancestors passed on to the next generation.
bluebutterfly gave the link to the Skull & Bones members. They surely have weilded and kept control of power for a long time; even that Cooper on the Warren Commission was a member.
Thanks for all these big pieces of the puzzle. The picture is beginning to become discernible.
Hey folks, the AP picked up a quote from Jim White’s diary on the Obama Nobel Peace prize and they gave the link to FDL.
Nice catch!
No lie I was told years ago that five or six big Wall Street bankers run the world wide drug trade. Maybe that’s why the war on drugs has never been won. Could this also be why we bailed them out, and have let them suck the lifes blood from the nation. Maybe why they own our Government.
Maybe why they never end up in jail.
Even the Cartels invest their money in banks. So why wouldn’t banks, bank them. You see banks are out to make money. They don’t care if it’s leagal or not. They were the friends of Organized Crime. They bankrolled Enron. Even Bernie Maddow was looked at as a great man by the banks. Money talks bullshit walks. While drugs, money, guns and any kind of trafficing flows.
Stop and think, if we really were against all these things how could they be so previlent. Everything from tax evation, to offshore accounts are proliferated by banks. Try and put money in an offshore account without your bank transferring it to them. The little people look up to the big banks as if they were Gods, but they are the worst crooks in fancy suits. Protected and promoted by our Governemnt.
so moving acquarius. thanks. will have to save and also share this.
