Yesterday, 11/26/2009, the Online Wall Street Journal posted an article entitled, Prosecuting American War Crimes. Excerpts below, but I recommend you read the entire article.

The ICC’s chief prosecutor, though, has no intention of waiting for Washington to submit to the court’s authority. Luis Moreno Ocampo says he already has jurisdiction—at least with respect to Afghanistan.
Because Kabul in 2003 ratified the Rome Statute—the ICC’s founding treaty—all soldiers on Afghan territory, even those from nontreaty countries, fall under the ICC’s oversight, Mr. Ocampo told me.
And the chief prosecutor says he is already conducting a "preliminary examination" into whether NATO troops, including American soldiers, fighting the Taliban may have to be put in the dock.
"We have to check if crimes against humanity, war crimes or genocide have been committed in Afghanistan," Mr. Ocampo told me.
"There are serious allegations against the Taliban and al Qaeda and serious allegations about warlords, even against some who are connected with members of the government." Taking up his inquiry of Allied soldiers, he added, "there are different reports about problems with bombings and there are also allegations about torture."

Asked repeatedly whether the examination of bombings and torture allegations refers to NATO and U.S. soldiers, Mr. Ocampo finally stated that "we are investigating whoever commits war crimes, including the group you mentioned."

I am not alone in wishing that USA had ratified the Rome Treaty which Pres. Clinton signed during his administration, though at the time I thought he made a mistake…"we have our own Justice system to take care of our people who break the law"…(the treaty was never ratified and GWB unsigned the Rome Treaty early on in his administration.)
Well, that was my thinking before George W Bush and Cheney demolished our Judicial Branch and I learned just how far our spineless congress would allow them to go to destroy the very Foundation of our government, that even the worst of our past administrations have professed to uphold.
Now I firmly believe that the peoples of the entire world must stand together to stop the advancement of American imperialism, which never in my long life did I dream would be the intention of the USA.

Long Live Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo!! May all oppressed peoples in the world look to him and the authority he represents for hope of change. His past performance as prosecutor is proof that he has the courage of his convictions and is not just another speechifying empty suit that makes promises but soon reneges on them after gaining power.

Think Special Prosecutor Ocampo will go along with prolonged detention without charges or trial, of late supported by Pres. Hope, Change and Rule of Law??

No, he wouldn’t because he has an understanding of, and belief in, international laws that are supposed to prevent what the US is doing. Funny how American officials continuing to ignore the fact that they launched an illegal war of aggression. Only three countries recognized the Taliban as the government of Afghanistan and America was not one of them. It amazes me that Headley was ever arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into US. Fed judges are appointed…many times just because they have in their background something for which they can be blackmailed, therefore outcomes for certain trials can be arranged. This was 1998, Clinton was pres.
CIA agents can have 5 names or more, change their histories and records as needed, tell whatever story is necessary in the situation. Indeed, they are never what they appear to be. After JFK was assassinated in 1963, Truman said he did not recognize the agency (CIA) that he had established.
We need to get out of East and Central Asia completely. Intrigues go back as far as their histories. IMO, the CIA people are addicted to the high of danger and risk and intrigue; like it’s a game. (as the Mel Gibson character stated in the film, Air America).

Those of us who have learned of the many formulas in the CIA’s bag of tricks know that among them is Rx that effect the heart, can cause fatal heart attacks, and disappear in a corpse within about 4 hours thus cannot be traced. That bag of dirty tricks is very ugly indeed…there may have been earlier “accidents”, but the earliest I can recall was Dag Hammerskold’s plane blowing up. (then head of UN). The bottom line is that those few greedy men way back (like Henry Kissinger aaaarrrrgggghhhhh) got into power before the end of WWII (as Matt said above) and that dark arm of gov infiltrated and overthrew more than 50 countries, put in power their bought/blackmailed puppets and robbed the countries of its resources. Now those few have multiplied into a run-away cancer that at some point will be terminal. As John Perkins tells us: First, the economic hit-men and if they fail: Second, the jackals (assassins) are sent in to surgically eliminate those in power who refuse to play the Big Powers’ game. Third, if the assassins fail – the army is sent in.
Saddam wouldn’t play ball on the oil with the Bush/Cheney crowd, there were more than 10 attempts to kill him but he had too many doubles and was too well guarded (some narrow escapes); So, the army was sent in on whatever excuses could be manufactured to get the American people to tolerate it.

I have the book you ref’d on order. I’m pretty sure you know about Meyer Lansky and the hold he had over J. Edgar Hoover from way back when Hoover was just a nobody in the lower ranks. That’s why Hoover denied that there was a ‘mob’ in America when they were high-rolling in NY, Chicago, Florida, Nevada, California, Arizona, parts of Texas and probably most everywhere else. I read his whole testimony and yes, even if no charges are ever laid, the truth is now preserved forever. He knew by Feb/02 that Bush was going to attack Iraq. His testimony is clear in regards to the fact that regime change was the goal. He was also clear on the fact that Blair was indeed Bush’s poodle. Some of his testimony was in total agreement with the Downing Street Memos that some have tried to say were fake. The dates and other information are identical.

To interfere in a country to bring about regime change is illegal and the House and Senate passed it! I read the Boston.com article earlier in afternoon. So disgusted I returned to my book and a nap. this is territory of herworship, I’ll leave it. Shouldn’t be surprised at the continued cover-up considering the time period WWii – 1984 + would include assassination of JFK and Johnson’s VN and dirty deals, arms sales via Israel to Iran, CIA dope dealers, the assassination attempt by Hinckley (family friend of Bushes), on and on. IMO Stone did a marvelous job, but he stopped short. One of his major money backers was of Jewish descent, thus the connection with the Mossad had to be left out. Mr. X mentioned the Mafia in Corsica; well that brings in the close relationship of Mossad with the Crime Syndicate headed by Meyer Lansky (higher echelon than Mafia groups). CIA has been known to have the Mafia do their killing for them up to sometime after 1963. Since before end of WWII, the OSS (later CIA) and Mossad worked closely – almost one organization. I don’t think that has changed. [ I don't recall whether Prouty talks of the Mossad in the book. That connection may have been so compartmentalized and buried so deep he may not have been aware of it.]

I tried to watch, blue, but my video function is back to its old tricks of stopping every few words – maddening. I was impressed by the young man with the black beard asking the questions, though he tried to cover too much territory (very understandable). When I learned that 1)GWB fought the commission 2) that his first pick was Henry Kissinger 3) that Lee Hamilton and James Baker III would co-chair it: Well, I wrote it off as another pack of lies like the Warren Commission. They were told going in what they were to conclude in both cases. And in both cases the appointing power was in the presidency, not congress. I think 5 or 6 of the 9/11 commission members have confessed and recommend further investigations.
One of the Reps on the 1978 House Assassinations Investigation (JFK) resigned and spoke clearly about the obstructions thrown up to prevent gathering of real evidence. (in that clip The Guilty Men where Barr McClellan tells of the LBJ involvement). That ‘secret society’ that JFK spoke of is not going to allow the covers to be disturbed in any way.
