If the genie wasn’t put back into the bottle back in the mid-1970s (The Church Commission years), and those revelations are today non-shocking, business-as-usual, status-quo operations ….. then I see no cause for optimism. The Police-State and CIA stranglehold are being accelerated not diminished. And Obama is the leading cheerleader and protector of Government Secrecy and [...]

I guess a lot depends on the definition of “Superman” and the POV of the person who is doing the defining.

    Dear Senator Coburn

We understand you will require offsets for aid to the Citizens you represent.

Will the first contribution to these offsets be your salary and expenses as a United States Senator, to demonstrate your dedication to this cause?

    Thank you for your support.

Quite disturbing….. America had better realize this is not a fucking video game. It reeks of fascism….

Ike is being proven correct, also! Secrecy and national security, right out of the Nazi handbook? Since 911 the trend towards corporate driven fascism under the “guise of protection” has accelerated. 911 provided the pretense, as did specific historical events in a specific nation where media controlled by corporate industrialists embraced fascism and the use [...]

Meh. Obama is running the agenda of the allegedly Democrat think tanks. If you had read the DLC website (before its overhauled), you would have found most of the things Obama has floated or accomplished. For example, the DLC had been writing about infrastructure loans and green energy for years. Before Obama took office, Al [...]

    The new normal.

  • In Massachusetts, a Supreme Court decision had given the legislature a certain amount of time to act. The neo theos moved into the state and campaigned big time.

The legislature looked as though it might pass civil union, which Vermont had recently passed, as an attempt at a middle ground. At that time, even civil union was a big step.

The zealots opposed it, wanting no state sanction at all for gay couples, a piece of hate that was to do them in. In a brilliant and gutsy move, the gay community opposed it, too. It then became all or nothing.

Faced with opposition from both sides, the legislature dropped civil union. It then did nothing further and time ran out. The Massachusetts Supreme Court decision became final and Massachusetts became the first state in the US to recognize same gender marriage.

Which was very good because, among many, many other things, you can’t write a good love song about civil union.

Dr. Coburn, a committed Southern Baptist, has his own version of the Hippocratic Oath: First, hurt everyone you can. I think this is in his list of the Commandments too.

I have a suggestion for an offset for Oklahoma aid: let’s cut all road, sewer and airport construction in Oklahoma.

Kris, if you get this, in some areas, the churches cooperate and do wonderful work. This is true in our area. Also, I witnessed the Red Cross workers actually do house-to-house personal checks after a flood, in this area.

  • Thanks, Jon.

    82%.

And, if purchases of recreational marijuana are taxed, just think how state revenues would increase. (Though, IMO, only non-medicinal marijuana should be taxed, not marijuana prescribed by a doctor.)

Strong public opinion, large financial incentive for government. So, why is it not already legal?

I am so sorry to hear of this tornado, which apparently cut an astonishing path through Oklahoma, and I hear Kansas was hit also. I am tornado-phobic, and have only been able to read a few of the articles, but thank you for posting. It’s also good to see FDL/Occupy efforts at involvement in relief.

I think there is a legitimate reason for having intelligence service. What matters, though, what limits are placed on it. CIA is a rogue service, it is not controlled by government, but by the worst elements in the American society: oil companies, weapons manufacturers, banks, you name it. It has become their private army. And [...]

It could have been another instance of a politician trying to have it both ways, but, post his term(s) in office, Truman did urge limitation of the role of the CIA. http://www.maebrussell.com/Prouty/Harry%20Truman%27s%20CIA%20article.html Also, according to the CIA’s own website, it is unfortunate that Truman’s version of how the CIA was formed was, for a long [...]

Hello, nelly…? Australia’s Largest Solar Cell Printer Can Spit Out a Photovoltaic Panel Every Two Seconds…

…The printer cost a whopping $200,000, although the University of Melbourne is accepting proposals for manufacturing orders – which will allow small companies to gain access to the device to print out projects (much like a screenprinting business).

The printer lays semiconducting inks onto plastic or steel at a rate of one cell every two seconds. Printed on flexible material, the solar cells are more versatile than silicon solar panels. The team will continue to work on making the printer more affordable so that they can make it available for purchase by other companies.
