fwiw.

Whatever the economic base, sustainability is key. I said that to a financial “adviser” once, and reminded him again recently. He gets really nervous when I mention such things, so I’ll remind him again when next we meet. He’s a nice polite, friendly guy, and I am polite and friendly back at him, but he and I both know I’m not kidding, not one bit. Tough. He and others need to face some essential truths.

Nuclear waste, with a half-life eons longer than our own, means NUCLEAR POWER IS NOT “CLEAN”, and never will be, ever. We can’t keep on building more plants and squabbling over whose back yard plays host to the waste.

Mountain-topping is forever destroying land in West Virginia. Large parts of this beautiful place which cries out to be a destination vacation spot and haven for peace and enjoyment of natural things, are instead being utterly destroyed by hideously irresponsible coal mining practices.

Wyoming. Formerly a glorious high plains haven for wildlife and humans of sane mind, is being drilled for natural gas until it resembles a pin-cushion over wide areas. In addition, its oil sands are destined to be scraped clear off the face of the land, reduced, dumped and “replanted” like new. Sure. Whatever. Pronghorns are only good for target practice and wall trophies and roadkill anyway, if you ask cheney. Burrowing Owls, Prairie Dogs and Black-footed Ferrets? Forget ‘em. Not important to the great scheme of plundering anything within reach.

Critically important old-growth rain forests around the globe are falling prey to the timber trade, sometimes to be used for furniture and porch floors in Nantucket, sometimes for charcoal, more likely to clear more land for drilling or planting mono-typical crops to be turned into fuel.

Palins, Cheneys and their ilk will not rest until Alaska’s north slope, the Gulf of Mexico, oil fields of Ecuador, Guatamala and Brazil are wrung dry of the stuff.

Nitwits are again at play on the airwaves, claiming that, Whoops! Sorry! Recycling is not cost-effective in today’s market, so we needn’t bother.
Pardon?! How’s that go again? Why don’t they think, ever, of something besides cost in dollars or euros or whatever?!

How do you measure value? How much do you care?As dubya famously quipped, [and I paraphrase], “Who cares. We’ll all be dead by then anyway. heh heh”

Please excuse me, but I don’t think we have TIME to quibble over whether the underpinnings of our monetary system are gold or plastic. numbskulls
around the world, are destroying our children’s future because it doesn’t matter.

The more the world’s young experience this attitude among supposedly mature, sentient adults, the more bizarre and hopeless and careless many of them quite possibly may act. Don’t shake your head in wonderment at the teenagers’ folly. After all, who started these insane games and deliberately threw their future plans in the toilet before they were even out of diapers?Something had better change, and fast. Even if it does, it may already be too late to do anything to slow critical environmental changes, regardless of who or what is involved in efforts to save our sorry hides.

Have a nice day. This is one earth we share. Global warming is real. War is for dummies. Pardon my funk. It was probably made in China.

Please listen to the clips linked below. Then proceed with your day. Tissues are on the desk. Help yourself. Don’t bother trying to pin down a value for the clips. It’s impossible in today’s market.
