When my sons, now in their mid-forties, were just under 1 year old and 3 years old, we lived in a small, almost rural town in northwest Indiana. The town’s name was Hobart. Well, times change, but Hobart is still a fairly small town of just over 25,000, and it seems the towns heart still hasn’t changed much either. I must say, I’m quite proud of it!

It seems people from small towns in Indiana would still rather walk away than perpetuate lies and misrepresentations to smear candidates in a political campaign, even if they are paid to tell them! What necessitated the paid calling was the fact that robocalls are prohibited by law in Indiana.

According to a story broken by Greg Sargent of TPM Election Central, approximately 30-40 people walked off their jobs rather than smear the Democratic candidate for President with a script that was called “disgusting” and “nasty” by the workers. He reports that their supervisors told them that if they refused to make the calls, they could take the remainder of the day off unpaid. There was no indication that their jobs would be in any jeopardy going forward.

Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being "dangerously weak on crime," "coddling criminals," and for voting against "protecting children from danger."

Williams’ daughter told her that up to 40 of her co-workers had refused to read the script, and had left the call center after supervisors told them that they would have to either read the call or leave, Williams says. The call center is called Americall, and it’s located in Hobart, IN.
"They walked out," Williams says of her daughter and her co-workers, adding that they weren’t fired but willingly sacrificed pay rather than read the lines. "They were told [by supervisors], `If you all leave, you’re not gonna get paid for the rest of the day."
