Judge Warren Wilbert is a 1976 graduate of Washburn University’s School of Law (Topeka, KS). Washburn is one of two law schools in the state, the other is at University of Kansas.
Judge Wilbert is an active Roman Catholic: he’s served as a deacon and worked in his parish’s eucharist for the homebound program. He was appointed to the bench in 1995 and won re-election to a fifth term last November. He rotates between the 18th district’s civil and criminal divisions. His re-election bid was endorsed by Kansans for Life.
The most interesting thing about Wilbert is that he was reprimanded in 2006 for a sexual harassment complaint filed by a court employee. This is an oddball case. The judge was not only reprimanded, the cease-and-desist order was made public. There was no finding of sexual harassment. I haven’t been able to track down the order to see its actual text.

Interim DOJ USA for Kansas is Lanny Welch, replacing Marietta Parker until Obama appoints someone. Is he the lead investigator or is there someone different in the civil rights division? I don’t know how these things work.
Also, the FBI (!) is going to join the investigation!

Beats me, dosido. I’m a statistician, not a lawyer and I sure don’t know USDoJ procedures.
One thing you can count on: the USAtty for Kansas is going to be a right-wing whackjob. The Senators from Kansas are Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback, and they are both whack jobs. Brownback is arguably slightly more whacked than Roberts, but it’s definitely arguable.
Anyway, with both of the Senators being whackjobs and a bunch of whackjobs like BushCo running things in DC, there is essentially no chance that Welch is not himself a right wingnut.
I had wondered if Dr. Tiller had private security. This answers my many questions about what steps he took to protect himself. Wow. It’s just so awful. Truly a modern lynching crime with local law enforcement’s blessing.

Recommended.
Thanks very much.
Tiller, what a stand up man living in the shadow of violence for so long. Respect for life? So not.
