Talking Points Memo is reporting (via Faux News) that Governor Mark Sanford (Philanderer-SC) doesn’t see any reason he should resign.
He cites the OT story in the Book of Kings about David, Bathsheba and Uriah. Uriah was away at war, David was in Jerusalem when he saw Bathsheba (Uriah’s wife) in the bath. He decided he had to have her, and did. She got knocked up, David sent a message for Uriah to come home so folks would think the infant was Uriah’s. Uriah was apparently having a good time at the front and declined. David sent another message to arrange to have Uriah killed in battle. He then married Bathsheba.
David didn’t step down as King of Israel, and apparently Sanford thinks he’s King of South Carolina. Therefore he shouldn’t resign, but instead will redouble his efforts to fulfill the trust the people of South Carolina have placed in him.
Yeah, buddy. That’s some exegesis there. Do you want your sons behaving that way? I thought not.

Sanford may want to revisit his analogy. As punishment for taking another mans woman, the lord killed David and Bathsheba’s child (via severe illness) shortly after birth. Davids favored son Absalom, led an insurrection, plunging the kingdom into civil war and attempted to claim the throne for himself. Absalom then had sex (in public) with TEN of his fathers concubines, as final punishment for Davids sins.
Dude, if you get a choice, take the resignation…

last i saw .. polls in the state were over 60% in favor of resignation …
Along with comparing himself to King David, he adds that there is a message in Psalms about humility. He says both these things in the same breath.
