Good Morning, Caturdenizens and animal lovers of all kinds! We are ringing in a new year with our animal companions and friends, and it’s a new opportunity to gather ’round and share our stories of the week.
I’m filling in for Margaret, who is writing today, working on a Book! Something she and we all hope will be an important resource for young people struggling with gender ID. So much appreciation to Margaret for this important task, and I’m wishing her a good day of words. I am sure Neko will help.
The White Cat has been losing weight for some months now. She’s been overweight for a long time, and the weight loss has been gradual, but impressive. I noticed her gums were looking pale, so I took her to the vet yesterday. She has lost 4 pounds in 10 months, and that is a lot for a cat, about a third of her weight a year ago. She is not really thin, and after a careful exam, we decided she should have some blood work done with the idea that perhaps she has some kind of a thyroid condition, which is treatable.
The blood draw was difficult. I could hear her cries, and she was struggling with the techs, she can be a biter. Poor thing. They gave up on getting it from her neck, and they went to a back leg, which was no less difficult for them or for her. They finally managed to get what they needed, and she was very glad to get out of there. I should hear about it in the next few days.
Here is a nice white cat. So what’s up in your world?

Morning, everyone! I guess it is afternoon for some of you. Whatev.
I will have to be in and out a bit (kind of like inagain outagain catagian). Busy few days, and I have to be in Santa Fe this afternoon. So I will be checking in, but I am not the hostess with the mostest today. Sorry.
Have some fun, K?
G’Morning, Bgrothus. Here it’s actually only 8:53 A.M. Seems like my kitties all came down with some sort of thyroid problem once they were over 12 years old. Then they need special foods and meds and such. Hope your kitty is okay and whatever it is will be treatable.
Nice to see your fonts!
TWC has been at my house since about 2002, and she arrived full-grown, so maybe a couple of years old, spayed and later abandoned, not unusual downtown, where people leave animals behind if the next place won’t allow the cat. I guess. So she is in the age range you suggest, and she has the start of cataracts. But I think she will be fine.
Thanks, Barbara.
Since last week I put up a photo of the mostly black male, today I will have a shot of the tuxedo female, but am waiting for the one I want to take, may be later.
For now, this is Drusilla;

Good mmorning, bgrothus! Thanks for hosting; you must be awfully busy, but you took the time to relieve Peggy of the task.
I was too late to PUAC to see her request in time to offer.
I’m still quite sick, coughing, headachy, eyes burning, etc. But the kittehs must be fed and cleaned up after! Must get myself into bathtub so I can go out and get a few things for me and them. We have just had breakfast, and I’m drinking (hot) tea with lemon and honey.
Ah, Squeaky just moved onto my lap, tentatively. (the loud deep coughs still kinda frighten them). Pushy on the chair back, post-prandial washing self.
Big Boy, who did spend the chilly night, and was in the living room looking for me when I stumbled out of bed, has gone out. Warmest morning for awhile, so guess he’s going to check his neglected territory.
Well, the early attendees are off taking care of business, I guess.
Pushy wants to play, so I’ll go play withhim and check back later.
Btw, Drusilla is quite adorable. Love her expression.
Drusilla says thanks, and she went right back to the place and pose in the picture after I posted it. What a prima donna.
I’m sure she takes compliments as no more than her due.; )
‘I’m sure she
takesallows compliments as no more than her due.; )’Slight change.
Dayum. Drooping eyes…sleeeeepy. Goin’ back to bed I guess.
will check back later..good Sunday,everyone.
heh.
Popping back in. I found some very sticky urine that escaped the cat box, sigh. May have someone diabetic. Shit. No other evidence of anyone drinking a lot of water or having an excess of urine, and I don’t think TWC. I have had diabetes before, and it really is a big responsibility to make sure the meds are regular and checked often. This is not a good time for me to have this problem, if it is what I fear.
Love the links, Ruth!
Morning All,
Thanks, Barb for doing today, as Margaret is in the zone.
And, Peg, when you come here to say Hey, go back to Talking Heads. Oldgold left a swell link to 10 writing tips from Hemingway.
I’ll stop in later, but I have a project of painting an old desk. Part of the prelim for my writing pj as well. Got to have a proper place for the proper work. My subconscious is working on the words however. Never fear.
Drucilla is quite a looker.
Coming up for air…Thanks Barb for filling in. Kuroneko is being helpful by being a ball on the warm spot I left in the bed. Sorry you’re still feeling crappy Tejana, it took me about two weeks to fully shake it. Now, taking a deep breath and …..plunge!
Best to tejana in getting over teh sick, teh suck.
Thanks for dropping by, Margaret! Hope the writing goes really well today.
Don’t know how I missed your comment, demi. The desk project is a worthy one. One must have the place for the writing.
I have been working on a multi-faceted project myself, and one of the early tasks was painting, which involved much sanding and prep and turned out well. Eventually I should get some photos, but it will yet be a while.
Of course, now that I gave up and went with her pose in still life, Drusilla has gone full spa cat on the sunny carpet

Thanks for the diary bgrothus, good afternoon kitteh people. Above freezing temps had me outside for a three mile stroll, nothing much but some fresh air, no real cardio workout.
I hope their is a good turnout at the support event.
No cat nooze for the moment, though M was motivated to get outside for a half an hour picking her way through the spots where the snow is melted. The black feral(?) was through and around the house yesterday until he spotted me through the window. A real beauty, but I’ve not been able to reach all the neighbors in trying to determine a possible human attached to said black.
Some day maybe we can share our finished projects.
Bulliten board, for 3 x 5′s. Doing the last layer of paint on the desk today. Antiquey green.
It’s a rainy day here, so fire in the fireplace. Spinach and feta cheese meat loaf for dinner.
It’s a plan, Stan. Er, I mean Barb.
their=there
Thanks, nonq. Appreciate your attention on that event.
It is hard to imagine how the animals survive the cold, being hungry and all that. One that spooks easily probably pretty feral, but who knows. Adorable Boy and his sissy were not there Friday when I went to feed, but I saw a couple of other colony members that I don’t see often.
My laundry is in an unheated space under the house that gets too cold in the winter. Yesterday I found that all the circuits down there were off, not sure why, so everything was frozen b/c the heaters were down, and there is a water leak from the washing machine that seems active, so I don’t know if that is due to cold and shrinking washers or if there is something loose or something else. The hot water heater is back there, and I had to install vents in the door which really let in a lot of cold, first time in the winter I had those. It is nervewracking. I have a lot of little things like that to deal with in the event I am locked up Wednesday.
Hello demi,
A quick mental assessment of numerous works in progress around here and I would have to get a much larger memory card to try to get photos of everything. Happy to hear the sounds of personal motivation. Mine extended to a few household tasks, vacuuming (while M was outside) dishes, kitchen counters, two loads of laundry.
Hope TWC will be all right. Lots of urine could indicate thyroid problems, and for a while Romeo “spilled over” the box, although that did mostly stop. His thyroid med keeps having to be adjusted upward, but no way can I afford the treatment that destroys the thyroid with radiation, which is supposed to be the optimal treatment.
I don’t know if Romeo is going to make it through this flare-up of pancreatitis, if that’s what it is. Ultra-sound seemed to indicate that, but he’s not responding as well as in the past. Stopped him injections for pain relief but had to start again, and need to give him appetite stimulant so he’ll eat properly. *sigh* We’ll see what the week brings. At least with the injections I know he isn’t in pain. Poor guy must feel like a pin cushion–3 shots for pain today along with a B12 injection. I’ll try to wean him down to 2 injections for pain tomorrow.
Will try to read everyone’s posts later or tomorrow–just stopped by quickly to recommend. Thanks for hosting, Barb. Margaret, good luck with the writing, that’s an ambitious project.
Look for the shut-off valves for anything appearing to be leaking. If you have to be away for any extended time, dawg forbid, shut off the water main from the well or city water at the main valve and the electric breaker or gas supply for the hot water heater.
You probably knew that stuff already, but I’m a worrier.
Do you mind if I re-post this afternoon’s event from your last diary comments?
I think it is OK to post, guess we are off topic and anything goes. I do have someone that will be at the house and the cats will be looked in on. Winter is just a hard time and I have others who depend on my attention too, so they all need to know what to do if no response from me. Will give my phone to someone to monitor, or access to my mailbox. Something like that. Sheesh.
On the black and the other white and black, there are two people with horses and barns just outside a mile radius of where I live and a two dairy farms with about 40 cows each on the other side of the now frozen swamp between them and myself a slight bit closer. Me thinks the likely homes but unable to reach these people and will likely personally visit them this coming week.
It is about the short term and longer term care of your cat brood, so perfectly acceptable in my book, for the kitteh topic. Support LANL6 link here. Off to a couple of outside things as the sun came out, bbl, temps overnight dropping to single digits.
Easily feral if barn cats.
Margaret! I can’t wait to read your book! Have I mentioned that I suspect my nephew is transgendered?
Oh? What did we all miss? I was just about to ask bg if there was any news on her case…
Whatever the ill thing was for me lasted about 2 weeks with 10 days antibiotics….It was a bear.. So take good care and don’t mess around. For several of us around here, the ill seemed to take awhile. Stay warm, also.
I was just told I have strep throat. I’ve been sick for about a week and a half with what I thought was a bad cold…
I have strep throat several times in my long life, and I knew right away. It’s extremely painful. Not just bad, but terrible.
No writing online, and no doing anything.
I hope you’re suffering is not that. Need antibiotics and pain pills.
Not just a sore throat.
I’m older than you are so I hope you hear my concern and words.
Have had, meant to say. I’m not a person prone to throat problems, but Real Strep throat is a seriously painful issue.
Hope they take care of you.
I’m still not completely recovered after 3 weeks. If cough doesn’t stop in a couple of days, it’s back to the doctor :-( Everyone really needs to take care–whatever is going around this winter is evil. I’m rarely sick and this really knocked me out.
Really awful. Get the help you need. Ive been wondering if I am having a bit of a relapse….more sleep, etc. Will have to watch. But
my dr. wasted no time telling me to rest + the meds….Thanks. Get well…
Hello cat people. I’m witing for a loaf of bread to finish baking, and also discoveredthat a quiche I made this morning to use up some things apparently didn’t bake long enough and was runny, so it’s back in the oven for a bit. Not sure how two rounds of baking will affect the result, but I’m likely to be the only one eating it, so…
A fellow soprano in the choir has emailed to say she has been sick AGAIN with “stomach flu” — she has battled some bug for weeks, was back before Christmas and now is sick again. Her doctor said this winter’s nasties can take as long as 6 weeks to go away. YUK.
Hi y’all. I am up after a long warm snooze. Have a tub o water waiting. Gotta make a run to the store then likely back to bed.
Yes trying to think if I will need to see dr again. Have sll usual meds wxcept antibiotics. Seemed to be heading off early.
Kittehs in living room and kitchen.
smokey saw doc and gpt meds Thursday. No outside the box pee since. Crossing fingers.
He seems fairly mellow! Nice. Has been playing a bit, sitting on armm of chair , edge of bed. Hhopeful.
What, nobody’s been back? I made it out to the store and back. Got most of the purchases into the house and fed the kittehs.
Bgrothus, you may still be up in Santa Fe; hope things went well, -watand that you can get your cat-watching friend to treat TWC if she needs meds. Or whoever it is who might.
Try not to worry too much about them, just check off your list so that you are ready if/when you need to be.
Thinking of you the next few days.
Hello tejana,
You sound like you are feeling slightly better, that’s good. I am ready to blend together some pesto ingredients and cook some pasta. Mcat is snoring in the floor position next to my swivel chair where I will brush her with my feet and alert her if I swing around to head to the kitchen where her nightly portion of cat food will be shortly served.
Still hoping barb is not separated from her charges at all.
Yup. What you said.
Mcat is so lucky. Hope she knows it.
Still feeling sucky, but getting clean and eating helps, doesn’t it?STill up, in the living room, with kittehs around. Even bad kitty, Smokey. He seems to feel better since he got treated for tapeworm and dermatitis. Behaving re litter box (knock wood), and napping on chair arm beside me. Whaddya know.
Hope all the cats and kitties have a great week.
Also hope that all who are feeling the yuckies feel better every day.
Sleep well and peaceful dreams.
Hey, Sorry you missed the Book Salon….you may enjoy a peek. See ya’ later.
bg, if i don’t see you somewhere on fdl before wednesday morning, my heart and prayers will be with you then.
who will be live blogging the trial?
I’ve wondered the same thing. bg, is that a possibility?
Caturday!! Greetings bgrothus and fellow firecats
Hmm, I wonder if that is possible. I think they will take equipment away/not allow it, but I will find out.
We had a good day today, nice turnout and raised money. I hope some of the people will come on Wednesday. Our lawyer who has been sick was out of the hospital (again) and in good form, but she has a very ill dog now, so that is another hard thing.
We had a good meeting after the event and are still in solidarity with our general position on everything. We expect sentencing same day and will appeal if it is egregious, otherwise hope to get the sentence done ASAP.
Thanks to everyone for your support, have a good week with your furry friends, take care of your health!
Read through it after the fact. Usually do.
Thanks, ((Bev)).
Meow!
