For those of you youngsters that never saw Bill Clinton in action, now you know why Bill kicked Republican ass twice.
President Clinton took aim at every Republican election talking point and shot each one out of the sky. Then President Clinton picked up the broken shards of those talking points, bent Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell over, and shoved them where the sun don’t shine.
Then, President Clinton stripped the bullshit away from the Romney campaign and marched Mittens and Paulie through the town square, kicking their Republican asses with a shiny Gucci wingtip.
Bill Clinton knows the truth about Republicans. When Bill was President, the Republican power structure tried to destroy him. Clinton was accused of murder. The Clinton’s were investigated for fraud in the Whitewater business. His wife was accused of being gay. They tried to impeach President Clinton. They tried everything except asking Bill Clinton for his birth certificate.
Every time Republicans thought they had Bill on the ropes, President Clinton would shake it off and come back stronger than before.
The Republicans underestimated President Clinton again when they tried to spread the notion that he would do President Obama harm because of old animosities. They had the animosity part right, but Bill Clinton drew from the animosity he feels for the Republicans and what they tried to do to him when he was President.
Wednesday night President Clinton put the Republican Party across his knee and gave them the spanking they so richly deserved.
Bill Clinton isn’t perfect. He has a huge ego, but so do Romney, Obama, Ryan, and Biden. I would argue that it takes a huge ego to think you can handle the hardest job in the country next to school bus driving.
There were several times I cheered during the speech. I really loved this explanation of the Romney/Ryan/Republican plan:
“People ask me all the time how we delivered four surplus budgets. What new ideas did we bring? I always give a one-word answer: arithmetic. If they stay with a 5 trillion dollar tax cut in a debt reduction plan – the – arithmetic tells us that one of three things will happen: 1) they’ll have to eliminate so many deductions like the ones for home mortgages and charitable giving that middle class families will see their tax bill go up two thousand dollars a year while people making over 3 million dollars a year get will still get a 250,000 dollar tax cut; or 2) they’ll have to cut so much spending that they’ll obliterate the budget for our national parks, for ensuring clean air, clean water, safe food, safe air travel; or they’ll cut way back on Pell Grants, college loans, early childhood education and other programs that help middle class families and poor children, not to mention cutting investments in roads, bridges, science, technology and medical research; or 3) they’ll do what they’ve been doing for thirty plus years now – cut taxes more than they cut spending, explode the debt, and weaken the economy. Remember, Republican economic policies quadrupled the debt before I took office and doubled it after I left. We simply can’t afford to double-down on trickle-down.”
They say, “The truth will set you free.”
I have been ranting for a long time about the choice we face in this country. I’ve used thousands of words to say what Bill Clinton said in two sentences:
“My fellow Americans, you have to decide what kind of country you want to live in. If you want a you’re-on-your-own, winner-take-all society you should support the Republican ticket. If you want a country of shared opportunities and shared responsibilities – a we’re-all-in-it-together society, you should vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden.”
Finally, Bill Clinton is a better man than me when it comes to feelings about Republicans:
“Though I often disagree with Republicans, I never learned to hate them the way the far right that now controls their party seems to hate President Obama and the Democrats.”
President Clinton could have included himself in that statement. Bill Clinton was hated by these same Republicans during his run as the leader of the free world…they hated him, but they worked with him.
I always say the Republicans hated Bill Clinton because he kicked there asses twice…Granted, he had help from the grandfather of the Tea Party, Ross Perot, but he won…twice.
Barack Obama kicked Republican ass once already, and from where I sit, I think Bill Clinton just spiked the ball in the political end zone for the first big score in what will become the fourth Presidential ass whipping the Republicans have gotten in the last 20 years.
Please, please, please let me be right; if I have to watch the country go to Hell AND look at smug Republican faces, I think I might lose the rest of my mind.

Don’t worry Cynicman, you will get your wish.
The Republicans are intentionally throwing this election. This smacks of UniParty coordination.
You can look at the ridiculous, Dead on Arrival, counterproductive….and inexplicably timed full on crazy legislation aimed directly at women, seniors, minorities etc. as proof. Picking Paul Ryan as a running mate was insane. Romney has been making sure to screw something up every few days for this entire election season…..and when he runs out of stupid things to say….his campaign staff step in to keep the gaffes coming.
The UniParty are about to help Wall Street to some big pots of money they have had a raging hard-on to get at for 50 years or so. SSC, Medicare, Medicaid,……….the Dems are going to hand it to them on a sivlver platter…..and the public is going to find that easier to swallow than if it was administered by the Republicans.
Reminds me of what George Carlin said around 2006 or there abouts:
“..and now they’re after your SSC and your Medicare. And guess what? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all. You know why? ‘Cause they own this f&*Kn place.” – George Carlin
Me, I’m voting for Jill Stein, I think it’s my civic duty to put up at least some resistance at the ballot box against these fascists.
Will you still be happy with O when he negotiates with himself to cut social security and medicare?
When will dems recognize Clinton for the reaganomics loving neoliberal that he is?
What portion of the eighty million that clinton has made since leaving office was a corrupt payback for all his offshoring of jobs and deregulation-to the point the right wing heritage foundation named clinton the best deregulator ever.
Thinking clinton a hero is what will keep the democratic party the seciond lesser right wing party of this country.
Welcome to the veal pen………………
Actually, there is another reason the GO(T)P hate Clinton. He took all the nonsense they spewed in my lifetime about how government should operate and made it work.
Granted, he was in the right place at the right time for it to work, but neither St. Ronnie of Raygun nor Silver Foot Bush could make it work. Circumstances were not that different for them.
Apparently you have never been a network administrator. Laying sod sucks but mostly in Florida in the summertime.
I partially agree with you.
The eonomy performed well, people felt more confident and prosperous. The tech bubble helped make people feel rich, and the tax rates were preferable to what they are now.
But look, things like repealing Glass Steagal took a while to come into effect, and when they did they were disastrous.
The same goes for Welfare ‘Reform’; it ended up flooding the labor market with people willing to work for desperation wages, which ultimately put downard pressure on wages all around, not to mention the trade agreement.
I don’t think any of the Neo Liberal policies he presided over ‘worked’, they just didn’t crap out on his watch.
Just like the narrowed version of the ‘Jobs Act’ that passed recently that allows start up companies to operate and sell shares on the stock market without submitting their books to independent verication for five years, that’s right Five Years with no one looking at the books. Can you say free fire fraud zone?
The butt-kicking was a joy to see and the Rs will pay the price. I don’t like everything that Clinton did by any means, but he was treated badly when he was in office. They say that the best revenge is living well and I am glad that he is alive and well.
Bingo. That’s all it is.
Wait for the upcoming devastation upon SS, medicare, the deregs of more banking and finance, deregs on internet access, costs, and for sure, wiretapping.
Wait for more outsourcing, less jobs, and more wealth moved up the ladder.
Wait for the warring that will escalate and the potential for world war nukes to fly as this president fully sits back and enables it all, including letting Israel punch out anyone they want especially Gaza, Lebanon, and surrounding Syria and more.
It’s gonna get MUCH worse domestically, economically, jobs wise, LIFE wise, for millions without jobs on Obama’s next watch.
But in the meantime, all the sheeple are worried bout the GOP.
By the end of 4 more years, it will look like the 50′s made the 60′s look like the Bush Years, only worse, much worse.
Ah well, all y’all please do good, protect the innocent, don’t let bullies get away with anything, don’t let administrators get away protecting bullies be it in the schools or on your jobs.
Confront wrong, accost bullies, call out evil and dishonesty regardless if it’s yer boss or community leaders.
That’s all we got left, for now, cuz the rest of it’s owned and operated by corporate fascism.
Good old fashoned hype and tripe from our dem faithful handlers.
If you want to see smug just look at Slik Willie’s mug. After his big night in front of the fawning fools he licked another cigar and said it tasted good.
“My fellow Amerikans we’re all in it together” yea right.
Bill just proved that he’s still a better politician then all of both parties present crop of losers combined. He also knew he had to get up there and hit it out of the stadium so that Hillary ( & him) would be the candidates in 4 yrs. He still can’t stand Obama but he’s savvy enough to know he still needs him.
