Wednesday night, the White House dropped a bomb on the “Democratic” Party. Obama offered Social Security and Medicare cuts to the Republicans in exchange for “basically nothing”. The “Democrats” reacted as expected but I wouldn’t declare this bomb defused just yet. The “Democratic” Poverty Pimps and Corporate Whores have a history of reacting negatively to policies they eventually support. They are poverty pimps and corporate whores for a reason.
With that backdrop, President Obama may find that there is only one course left to avoid a global economic calamity: Invoke Section 4 of the Fourteenth Amendment, which says that “the validity of the public debt of the United States … shall not be questioned.” This constitutional option is one that the president alone may exercise. Katrina vanden Heuvel
If the President has the power to avoid this artificial crisis created by the Republicans, and he doesn’t use his power to protect his core constituents, then the “Democratic” Party must oppose his 2012 nomination for President. Obama lost my support with the GWB tax cuts extension, and I know Obama isn’t a Progressive. Thankfully, the Republicans are exposing this political coward to the rest of the “Democratic” Party. But most “Democrats” are like Eva Braun, ready to marry the lunatic Fuhrer just before they commit suicide. “Democrats” and Progressives should let him commit political suicide but not destroy the American middle class in the process.
I expected Obama to cave (see Translating Obama), so I’m not surprised at his cowardice, and I also expect the worthless “Democrats” to cave. Obama will modify his capitulation just enough to peel off a few Poverty Pimps and Corporate Whores to pass his “compromise”. Current public statements notwithstanding, the stealth Republican, Obama, will continue this pattern of compromise, capitulation, and surrender. Mr “I know how to negotiate” is a worthless stinking turd that needs to be flushed out of the “Democratic” Party by a primary challenger. And the Poverty Pimps and Corporate Whores that follow this worthless turd need to be flushed the same way.

Agreed.
Don’t keep your emotions all bottled up – let them out and say what you mean! :P
But seriously, I’m baffled by O – forget about what he believes or wants – can’t he see the political suicide this deal will bring (apparently he didn’t learn anything from the healthcare deal)? He’s like FDR in 1937. Actually, forget history – just look at Greece: did austerity – economy sucked harder. Great Britain: did austerity – economy is sucking harder. Ireland – rinse repeat. Does he think that the extra hit the economy will take will be timed so that we will start an uptick well before Nov 2012?
I’m thinking of registering as an R just to vote for Romney (or his twin) in the primary just so our next president isn’t a totally insane theocrat like Bachmann. But who knows, maybe the latter would be preferable to rule by idiot corporatists.
I gave up on finding another FDR long ago, maybe our best hope now is to help elect another Teddy Roosevelt.
Q: Can anyone name the only politician successful at defeating a corrupt Powerful Corporate Republican political regime in the last decade? (answer below)
A: Sarah Palin in Alaska
“And the Poverty Pimps and Corporate Whores that follow this worthless turd need to be flushed the same way.”
But then there’ll be no one left. So you may as well start from scratch with a new party anyway?
Obama does not care about us..he cares about money and power…lets face it no one really knows what makes him tick..he might really believe his own BS to the ruin of us all..why did Clinton sign off on bills he was told would ruin the country? I read where Bubba regrets signing thise bills..really? Why is he running around talking about cutting Corporate taxes? What has he to clean up his mess? Nothing that is what he has done! The same for Obama…years from now he will bemoan that he thought he was right..the media will spin Obama’s screwing of the middle class as Obama is staking his place in history on this gamble…just like Bush and the wars…who cares about them? What about us?
I like your post. I have slowly and reluctantly arrived at the conclusion that Obama is a coward. I’ve been struggling with whether or not to primary Obama, but I’ve reached the point of beciming completely fed up. If he agrees to cuts in Social Security and Medicare, then I think we have to primary him. There is one thing I intend to do about this today. I am making three phone calls:
White House 202-456-1111
Nancy Pelosi 202-225-0100
Harry Reid 202-224-3542
The phone call to the White House is the least important; Obama has stopped listening to his base. But I think Reid and Pelosi need to hear that if they fight Obama on this, Democrats will support them. Pelosi and Reid need to hear that their base is outraged and expects them to draw a line in the sand, remind the White House that there are three branches of government and tell the Greqt Capitulator that if he caves on this, he’s on his own.
recommend I agree Bin Quick and l like you, I’m not surprised either. I knew what was coming when Obama appointed Alan Simpson to be one of the co-chairmen of his commission to study the deficit ceiling early in 2010.
Republican Alan Simpson is well-known as a rabid hater of Social Security–after all he doesn’t have to worry. He already has a congressional government pension to live off that is at least six times the annual income of a Social Security recipient. Social Security is nothing to him.
Obama is going down his all too familiar road of “blame the Republicans (just a little) and emphasize ‘bipartisanship’ and ‘working together”
The problem with Obama’s version of “working together” that Americans are coming to realize is that he means “the rich upper 20% working together against the other 80% of us.”
Thanks for sharing Bin
Hows that hopey changey workin for yu, wink.
The only question is how much the weakest, defenseless, and those with no “voice” will get gutted.
We all know it’s coming.
The elderly live on fixed incomes. And in this economy and country they are barely making it. Do they save? Does anyone? Who has the money these days to save anything?
Food, rent, gas, … everything has gone up in price.
Will the current SS recipients be spared? Probably. It’s just good politics.
And the rest? Sacrificed at the alter of the almighty dollar.
They’re not just allowing the death spiral, they’re pushing it.
If you’ve read any of my post, you would know that I’m so far past hopey changey…
Great post Ben, thanks. I hope someone primaries Obama but barring any real challenger except the crazy assclown on the R’s, I will probbaly go with the R’s. Might has well turn up the heat on the boil to see if the frog will jump out ala Wisconsin.
Regarding Obama and the Democratic Party, with friends like these who needs enemies.
The sad reality is that the average American has no friends.
And let’s face it, progressives won’t be able to create a meaningful third party by 2012 or 2016 ad infinitum
Solution: The entire system requires by any means available or necessary a sea change.
Since this “…stanza is inscribed at the base of the Minute Man statue… in Concord, Massachusetts…” (Wikipedia),I trust it will pass mod muster, and I preface it with the qualification that anything said after this point should be considered as to be almost only virtual.
We need another dose or two of
,
“The Shot Heard Around the World.”
Unfortunately, turning up the heat is our best choice. Maybe the frog will jump soon.
I strongly opposed Obama in 2008. I thought it was obvious he’d be a right wing hack. It’s scary to think my fellow lefties couldn’t see this in 2008 as they were so infatuated with his skin color, height and oratory skills. What is wrong with you people? Anyway, it’s nice to see lefties starting to oppose Obama, but I have a feeling they will STILL vote for him in 2012. Obama knows lefties make loud noises but will ultimately come crying back to “Momma Obama” and “No Drama Obama.” One could argue we lefties are just drama queens because we’re all talk and no action.
Not to nitpick, but I am tired of lines drawn in the sand, I want the damned lined chiseled in concrete, with a bunch of hungry alligators in the “line”.
Good stuff Bin. Where is that Democrat to oppose Obama in the primaries? Would be nice if it weren’t a usual suspect, too.
I read it, so
The are no Democrats just “Democratic Poverty Pimps and Corporate Whores”.
“He’s like FDR in 1937.”
Not totally… FDR eventually changed course once he realized the cuts were hampering the recovery and did go back to deficit spending to increase demand.
Bin:
Good stuff! I agree with you on all points because to do other wise at this point is to be illogical. Observation: notice how Obama react to AIPAC? He uses words like “sacrosanct” when referring to all matters concerning Israel. Why is this? One reason and one reason only; fear! He knows that if he strays one inch from their agenda they will politically destroy him. Until we on the left push his buttons like AIPAC nothing will change. Obama like most of his ilk take kindness for weakness; therefore we on the left need to show him some “tough love”.
I think Richard Trumpka would be a great president.
darwinfish:
ask yourself; in the 30 years since Ronald Reagan how many major battles have the unions won? Wages have been flat for years; the Democrats take union money yet deliver little or nothing; capitulation over and over to corporate cuts seems to be their plan; even in Wisconsin the union gave Scott Walker every thing he wanted (but collective bargaining). Who in their right mind gives the other said 90% of what they ask for without a fight? Unions have failed workers as a group and Richard Trumpka talks the talk, but his track record speaks for itself!
