“No VietCong Ever Called Me Ni**er” — Muhammad Ali, 1966
With all the hysteria about Rick Perry’s gaffs, stupid statements, and ignorance, I have to remind myself that Rick Perry has never called me the N-word nor did he create our $14 Trillion debt. He didn’t cause 9% unemployment nor 16% black unemployment. He didn’t pass Free Trade Treaties that exported the American middle class. He isn’t compromising away Medicare or Medicaid nor cause America’s credit downgrade. He didn’t pass useless health care reform, and he did start or continue dumb wars. But if one were to watch or read the liberal news, one might think Rick Perry is the reincarnation of George W. Bush or worse – Barack Obama. The truth is Rick Perry is just another idiot Republican selling the same crazy Republicans have been selling for 30 years – tax cuts, deregulation, entitlement cuts… I would love to jump on the Rick Perry “hate bus” but Barack Obama is selling just a little less of the same crazy – tax cuts, deregulation, entitlement cuts… I know Obama is a “Democrat” but his policies mirror those of Rick Perry. Yes, Barack Obama wants to cut defense spending but he can’t seem to end his $2 Billion a week Afghan war. Yes, Obama wants to “save” SSI, Medicare, and Medicaid by cutting them. And Obama wants to raise revenue by cutting tax rates for the rich. Why does my spider sense tell me something is wrong?
Democrats and Liberals from Texas may have some valid complaints, but Rick Perry didn’t call them the N-word either. Before we spend the next 15 months decrying Rick Perry, why don’t we demand the current elected President and Congress do their jobs. If Obama can’t persuade the country and/or make a strong case that persuades Republicans to act in the country’s best interest, do we really want to re-elect him? And we shouldn’t re-elect Democrats and/or Republicans in Congress either. If I remember correctly, it was Democrats and Republicans that created a our $14 Trillion debt, started dumb wars, passed useless health care reform, and exported American jobs. For now, the Carnival Barker/Court Jester, Rick Perry, gets a pass. I’ll save my criticism for the serious people with political power that are destroying the American dream. I can’t wait for Obama’s new jobs plan. If the Republicans had any political savvy, they would pass all of his “detailed plan” (LOL) – infrastructure bank, patent reform, Free Trade treaties, payroll tax cuts, tax reform, and deficit reduction. In the last 2012 Presidential debate after unemployment decreases from 9.1% to 9.0%, the Court Jester should simply ask the brilliant Republican Harvard lawyer, where are the jobs?

“Liberals from Texas may have some valid complaints,”…
That would be me, a liberal who voted in the republican primary just so I would have another chance to vote against Rick Perry.
Wow! This is a cool rant. Very provocative indeed! Recc’d.
I don’t hardly believe it’s too effing difficult for proggy’s to despise and expose both Perry n Obama at the same time.
Or the rest of the GOP, Congress, DIMS, TeaBaggers, corporate elitists, filthy rich oligarch overlords . . .
Nah, I can fit them ALL in without trouble.
I’m sure the REST of the progressiveshpere could, too.
Selling short is for investment brokers.
9.0% unemployment in late 2012. You are an optimist.
Bin:
The title of your post, like a woman in a bikini grabs your attention, but in my humble opinion has little to do with the subject.
“He didn’t pass Free Trade Treaties that exported the American middle class. He isn’t compromising away Medicare or Medicaid nor cause America’s credit downgrade. He didn’t pass useless health care reform, and he did start or continue dumb wars.”
If you have any doubt that “He” (Perry) will not gut social security, medicare or medicaid Read Rick Perry’s book. As for his willingness to engage in never ending mass murder consider the number people he put to death in Texas. And don’t think for a second that Perry won’t jump on the corporate free trade band wagon when there is so much money to be made exploiting all that “cheap labor!”
Trump, Palin, Romney, now Perry….
Looks like we “Bin-Drinking” again?
Sorry you missed the point, Perry isn’t my problem yet. I’m more concerned with Obama’s cuts, TeaBag Fascism, Republican corruption, and Democratic incompetence(Poverty Pimps & Corporate Whores). And BTW, have you heard the economy and unemployment really sucks. So before I start or participate in another war with a man from a different country (Perry – TX) or be distracted by the shiny object in the magician’s Right hand…, I have plenty political opponents in Washington D.C.
But if Perry opposes Free Trade, he has my enthusiastic support and you know, I’m voting for AnyBodyButObama2012, so if Perry wins the nomination…
Bin:
Even though I may disagree with you here I have nothing but respect for the example of civility you have maintained consistently. My “Bin-Drinking” comment was done in jest (good nature): on some level I realize thing must change in a big way, but hopefully that change won’t take us back to the stone ages?
I’d rather vote for (the sounding sane, at least) Huntsman than Perry … but I hear Huntsman should-not-be-called-weird, so I guess we have to wait and see. He’s saying (on CNN) that he is a “hybrid” (lolz) that includes some Episcopalian background. Is this a brew that will pass?
Agreed, the more pressing problem is Obama’s next moves.
Likewise vector56, I respect your opinions as well, and I respect those 3rd Party, Green, etc supporters(personal growth since Bush v. Gore). I don’t claim to have a all the answers, and God knows I’ve been wrong before(Obama). I’m just another Ass with a computer and an opinion, nothing more. “Bin-Drinking” didn’t even register. I’ve been called everything imaginable for suggesting the Republican Boogie Man du jour isn’t as bad as the current Manchurian POTUS. I only get pissed when I’m called a Republican. LOL!
I hope my Ali reference wasn’t too remote, feedback/constructive criticism is always appreciated.
“I know Obama is a “Democrat” but his policies mirror those of Rick Perry.”
That makes you a majority of one.
Ok, we will have a virtual, silent vote.
All those who think Obama is a Democrat say yes or raise your hand.
Just as I thought, you are still a majority of one.
Forgive me, I didn’t put Democrat in quotation marks. I don’t think the Democratic Party actually exist, Obama being a Democrat means nothing to me. Quick, can you tell me one thing the Democratic Party will fight for?
“Quick, can you tell me one thing the Democratic Party will fight for?”
Increased profits for Wall Street and the Banks.
Sorry friend, I quoted you and as you can see ‘Democrat’ is in quotation marks.
Otherwise, I don’t think we have a material difference of opinion.
Just so we both know we are on the same page, the good, ‘common man/woman’ in the United States is one of the most racist, hate filled, under-informed, under-educated, religiously addled, greedy excuses for a human being neo-Darwinian evolution has yet had the audacity to create.
And please excuse me for under-statement.
And thank you for your work.
Like my friend Bin Quick, I too don’t have any magic solutions to this freaking mess we find ourselves in. Like Bin I have had it with the Democratic parties Bull Shit! I will vote Green, but I can’t help but wonder if there is another way? At present, we are on our own; both parties have sold out completely and we the people have nothing to loose, and everything to gain if we take them on “full tilt!”
In reference to Mohammad Ali, “I’m a Bad Man!”
Thanks.
I try to always right “Democrat” or “Democratic Party” in quotes.
Ali stood on principle and the world, history, and public opinion followed. Maybe Obama should give Ali a call.
You hit the nail on the head here:
“Before we spend the next 15 months decrying Rick Perry, why don’t we demand the current elected President and Congress do their jobs.”
I have a strong feeling we are going to spend the next 15 months debating how to create or encourage businesses to create jobs while we lose more jobs.
Thanks to you, or to whoever put the ** in the title of your post. This word should never appear at FDL, ever, even when quoting someone as eloquent as Ali.
I strongly disagree! In Samuel Clemens, classic Huckleberry Fin, Hucks friend (and slave) Jim was called “N*gger Jim” by Clemens for a reason. I realize it would make White America feel safe, warm and fuzzy if this and other words, acts and shameful episodes in US history were to be swept under the rug: if that “racist sh*t” would go away so we can all get back to our colorless class war.
Censoring history is dangerous.
Write the n word on your own blog site all you like.
But with the profile and enemies FDL has, you can forget a google search that includes racist and sexist terms + FDL.
And btw, the meaning in this post is not lost – at all.
Whats the difference between John Ashcroft covering up the mammary gland of “blind Justice” and people like Sir Canfield “redacting” inconvenient and embarrassing truths?
I agree with Bin; Censorship like good intentions pave the road to hell.
After thought: Canfield, some times I am a little slow on the up take, but did you just imply that Google is censoring the internet itself?
I can walk and chew gum at the same time. I have made demands of Obama and congress and short of getting a pitchfork for one hand and a torch for the other, I’m not sure there’s much more I can do in that regard. As for Perry, he’s not running for President, he’s hawking his book.
