On last night’s episode of CSI: New York, Gary Sinise gave us a taste of his conservative philosophy on health care and what he’d like to see if he’s elected president, an office he’s said he has his eye on. In the episode, Sinise’s character, Mac Taylor, is so proud to tell us not just once, but several times, how much he admired his fictional father because when he was struck with cancer and didn’t have insurance or money to pay for his treatment, he didn’t ask for help. He just went home and died quietly and courageously.
These are the Republican health care values. You got sick? Can’t afford care? Well, tough luck. Please die courageously and quietly.
Rep. Grayson was right..

Yikes. Then let’s dismantle insurance altogether. Period.
One additional difference between Grayson’s rhetoric and GOP’s accusations of death panels? Grayson is referring to the number of actual deaths happening right now. Not some fictional estimate of what might happen.
Big difference.
Grayson’s was not “rhetoric”, his was the truth! The problem is that very few people expect a Democratic member of Congress to actually take a strong stand and fight back against the bully Republican machine. I think Grayson is very intelligent, he fought back with facts, not garbage and untruths like the Republicans do (death panels, socialist, gov. takeover, medical rationing, etc.)
He is the new hero for Democrats, I hope he can help other Democrats grow a spine and fight back hard against all that garbage from the right wing media and the Republicans themsleves. He is a breath of fresh air!
Yep, don’t inconvenience anyone..just crawl away and die. Or helplessly watch your child die, in pain and terror. This guy is a moron. We had an Aussie who, when we had a sick little angora goat (long story), stayed next to that little guy in his basket for 48 hours straight. We thought the poor little goat had passed on but the dog would not leave his side. All of a sudden, the dog got all excited and created a huge fuss so that we would come running to see the little goat back on his feet..shakey but definitely still in the land of the living. If Sinise had been that dog, he probably would have..well, we won’t go there.
These guys are just greedy bastards who just don’t want to pay taxes. All of the other reasons they oppose health insurance reform are BS. They’re afraid that top marginal tax rates will rise to 50% again.
CSI New York. Man is that boring. Even by television’s very low standards.
unfortunately my spouse watches it, so I happened to wake up when that part was on.
drivel.
That’s a great idea. I actually am not sure I would want to fight too hard to survive many forms of cancer and cancer treatments. But who is going to raise my kids for me? I have a feeling their main thoughts throughout the rest of their lives wouldn’t be about what a brave choice I made to just go away and die on them when they needed me most.
But, hey, as long as we have coverage for the elite who are the only ones who are really needed in this world, it will all turn out just great, right?
” They’re afraid that top marginal tax rates will rise to 50% again.”
Before the tax cut-to-the-wealthy that Raygun signed in 1981, it had been 70%.
I usually like CSI and even Gary Sinise. Now keeping in mind that he did not write this episode, and we can’t be sure what his position is, nevertheless, I was extremely disappointed by this show, and find it hard to believe that it was even aired.
There’s a reason I don’t watch CSI: NY — Gary Sinise’s wooden acting. At least CSI: Miami is a guilty pleasure thanks to the over-the-top David Caruso and the ridiculous plots. Sadly, NYC is stuck with Gary Sinise. At least we still have Law and Order.
I know what you mean, altho I don’t like either of the detectives on the latest incarnation of L&O. But wooden acting? what the heck does David Caruso do but stand there, cock his head, and put his sunglasses on?
Seriously tho, I think a number of shows are starting to take on the health care crisis. And that can be influential.
