Hoping everybody had a nice Thanksgiving. We could actually cook outside this time, kinda weird feeling. I sure remember playing in snow around Thanksgiving when I was a child. The dogs do not understand why we must throw the turkey carcass out as there is plenty left for them to work on. Silly husky’s guarded the trash can until we took it out.
Now for the news:
Progress on Altzheimers. This is ready for clinical trials.
They made a self filling water bottle, but the real news is the ability to use nanotech to suck water out of the air. Like a beetle. Think roof tiles in dry areas. Now think what would happen if we suck all that moisture out of already dry air.
Have you heard about the below the ice lakes in Antartica? Lake Ellsworth is big, Lake Vostok is bigger and there are others. Kept liquid by the ice pressure on top of them. Scientists are about to get samples of both. If they find life there, you have to think much more intently about Jupiter’s moon Europa. And Saturn’s moon Enceladus. At least
We learned a bit about the dwarf planet Makemake. I think there are a lot of things out there in the cloud bigger.
Solar Tech takes another jump, though not in the way you might expect. Tell me again why we’re building nuclear reactors, I keep forgetting.
Fusion power takes another step forward. Fusion is certainly better than fission or burning carbon, but the reactor itself is going to be very high level nuclear waste due to neutrons. So we don’t know what to do with it. But we can’t last on carbon for long.
Climate change deniers fighting facts with cash a bit more blatantly than usual. I love the smell of desperation in the morning.
