The Charlottesville, Virginia occupation was delighted to receive a package of winterizing goods from the Fire Dog Lake community (you can see some video here).
Support from a national organization with a huge and committed community of supporters is what the occupation needs to balance out the problems of local Mayor Dave Norris caving to teabaggers and businesses who view the occupy movement as a threat.
Tonight, that will be tested again. Here’s Charlottesville Mayor Dave Norris two weeks ago:
This is not Oakland. We’re not going to come in the middle of the night with riot gear and kick them out of the park.
Since then, local residents packed a local City Council meeting to support occupy, with more people in attendance than one long-time commissioner could ever remember seeing. With the public and a majority of the commission in support of the First Amendment, the mayor was not able to evict the occupation via the city council (NOTE: Charlottesville has a weak mayor system where the mayor is pretty much a glorified commissioner, but Dave Norris has gone beyond that to act like he’s mayor of New York City or something).
Tonight, Charlottesville has said they will begin bulldozing the camp at 6 PM and then start arresting people at 11 PM.

Thanks again Occupy Supply and the Fire Dog Lake Community!

Recommended and thanks for the report in your neck of the woods. Stay strong and keep supporting them as best as you can. It is frustrating at time but as someone said earlier you can’t erase an idea or in your case bulldoze it. *g*
Recommended and thanks!!!
Rec’d also, with thanks!
Trying to keep up with, and to counter, the many ways in which Congress is busily trying to subvert the Constitution is a full time job.
Is there anything on the horizon able to straighten this country up again except the Occupy movement? Not that I can see.
No, Thank You!, Bob, and to the Charlottesville Occupiers.
Bulldozers.
Can you say Israel.
You will be
shockedunsurprised to learn thatCharlottesville Mayor Dave Norris is a Democrat.
Cleared encampment by encampment, the Dems are digging their electoral graves.
It wasn’t just “cleared”; it was violently cleared with arrests of around 16 folks. We need our language to reflect the reality of the event, ’cause the mainstream media won’t do it.
Prolly got a personal call from O.
More likely his sidekick Peter King.
Update in Boston. . .
They’re in court. Prediction is a pass, since it’s Boston. Probably bo big deal here. . .

Was Eric Cantor involved with that decision to impress the VA wingnuts?
From the UPDATE link.
That was gutsy. Wonder how the born-again rednecks were able to deal with that?
We are in now what I always refer to affectionately as “winter” – that is, the period (the very short period :) ) between Thanksgiving and the Solstice, shortest days, darkest nights. By my (and solar) reckoning, Spring begins the very next day with the beginning of the return of light. Sure, there will be cold, cold days in my spring, and wintry weather, but the light is always increasing, something like six whole minutes at a time. So it will be with us.
Old Man Winter can enjoy his month of darkness, but that’s all he gets!
“You can crush the flowers (Old Man Winter), but you can’t stop the spring!”
Alexander Dubcek
The Dem leaders are counting on the rank-and-file to follow them down the path to fascism. Disturbingly, it looks like far too many are willing to go that route.
Bulldozers? There were no bulldozers.
And all those arrested were wearing smiles. They feel it’s their duty to be arrested; as one Occupier said “I can afford to get arrested.” He invited others to do the same.
I fully support Occupy and have taken supplies myself, but I don’t support sensational reporting on either side. This report, of course, isn’t from Occupy Charlottesville —- I’m not blaming the Occupiers for the sensationalism. I try to get most of my Occupy news directly from Occupy websites.
At the same time, I have never understood Occupy Charlottesville’s desire to get a permit. OccupyDC, for instance, purposely does not get a permit. Isn’t that a basic —- not even bothering to acknowledge silly rules about camping in public places?
Nevertheless, that’s their decision so they’re working on negotiations right now to work out a new place —- maybe McIntire Park. As a side, Dave Norris is probably one of the most progressive mayors in the country, not some sort of tyrant. I agree that he has probably been leaned on heavily.
Here’s video footage of the eviction.
