Here is Blanche Lincoln’s case against challenger Bill Halter:

But he cannot conceal the direct fund raising messages from the Washington-based liberal groups that are generating out-of-state cash for his campaign against Senator Lincoln…

"Who does he think he’s fooling?" asked Lincoln’s campaign manager Steve Patterson.

If receiving out-of-state cash is a serious drawback, what are we to think of Senator Lincoln herself? Lincoln has collected tons more cash from outside interests than she has from the citizens she was elected to represent in Congress.

Let’s take a look at Lincoln’s fundraising history since she’s been in office, based on data at Open Secrets. Lincoln’s own fundraising history clearly shows that she has received the bulk of her cash from interests outside of Arkansas since 2004, and that trend has only increased through time:

As can be seen, Lincoln is now raising roughly 60% of her campaign cash from sources outside of her state. Who are those sources, and what do they expect in return?

There’s a phrase for this kind of special interest fundraising in politics. From wikipedia:

A blank cheque (blank check, carte blanche), in the literal sense, is a cheque that has no numerical value written in, but is already signed. In the figurative or metaphoric sense, it is used (especially in politics) to describe a situation in which an agreement had been made that is open-ended or vague, and therefore subject to abuse, or in which a party is willing to consider any expense in the pursuance of their goals.
