The Senate dealt a blow tonight to Sen. Arlen Specter’s hold on seniority in several key committees, a week after the Pennsylvanian’s party switch placed Democrats on the precipice of a 60-seat majority.
uh huh, that’s correct, they got one right
By a voice vote, they unanimously approved a resolution allowing him to sit on the dem side of his five current committees . . .
at the kids table !
But Democrats placed Specter in one of the two most junior slots on each of the five committees for the remainder of this Congress, which goes through December 2010. Democrats have suggested that they will consider revisiting Specter’s seniority claim at the committee level only after the midterm elections next year.
yep. double secret probabtion
A relief to know we wont be forced to watch them completely kowtow to this souless arse.

I am of the school that says this was junior senators telling Majority Leader Reid what’s up. Whether he spent the week making a fool of himself and the Leadership or not, clearly these guys who stood to be passed over in favor of a long time antagonist weren’t having any
would that they could move this kind of lockstep for Cramdowns, Healthcare, or EFCA sigh
I’m wondering how much that totally half-arsed comment about wanting norm to win had to play in the equation. He just *had* to keep pushing the package.
Whatever the reason(s), it’s a great pleasure to see spector put in his place.
Betcha Arlen be Snarlin’ tonight!
I think you are right about the Juniors, but there must have been those in line at the Senior level thinking “why should I step down from a position I’ve worked my rear for, to see a guy who doesn’t even vote with the caucus half the time get it?” These are folks that often were whipped into deals that hurt them at home, or went against their ideas for years…and Arlen comes in, and in three days says he’s voting against EFCA, Cramdowns, Obama’s nominees, putting holds on people, constipating the Healthcare initiative…ad nauseum. That’s stuff a lot of these people (though not all) are working hard to pass. Why reward an obstructionist…particular with positions where he can do even more damage.
Assuming Harry didn’t orchestrate this vote, he just took a huge credibility hit.
Ya mean he still had credibility to hit? ;-)
hey arlen, still rooting for coleman, you fucking PUTZ
suck on that
an remember, we can still DEMOTE your sorry ass
so hows abow we hear a round of “I’m a loyal DEMOCRAT” from you
for like, the next 20 months
or we’ll have Pennsylvania singing “We Just Elected Stesek” come November of 2010
have you figured out how this whole “PARTY” thingy works on our side of the aisle yet ???
Well said, Mr. freep! I’ve still got a smile on my face from that little piece of dem hardball.
Why didn’t they do the same thing to Lieberman?
Do ya reckon it might fall into one of those “lessons learned” thingies?
Naaaaaaaw….that’s being way too hopeful. :-(
oh Mr Jimmy – goin right to the heart of it are ya ?:D
lieberman wasn’t leap frogging over anybody. of course now I question the motives of those who were urging he be kicked out of the caucus – possibly not because he’s a boil on the ass of Dem progress but removing him would have advanced senority for some – jes sayin
arlin inserted language into the patriot act the removed senate oversight over the appointment of Attorney Generals that led to the dismissal of fine American Patriots who were in fact doing too good of a job, too honest.
That’s who arlin is a Traitor for subverting the constitution . Hang out with this guy some of it is going to rub off you. The Democrats should have said no thanks you’re too much of a republican to ever change.
Funny the day after I called his office demanding International War Crimes Tribunal and told his staff that he too should be brought up on war crimes for his support of the illegal, immoral and certainly unconstitutional invasion for the benefit of Israel ,he switched parties. His main purpose at this point is to run interference for the war criminals.
So, is Senator Specter going to go back to the Republican Party rather than lose his seniority? Stay tuned.
Maybe Arlen will end up like the Flying Dutchman forever sailing between parties. I see an opera in this. Arlen holding on to the steering wheel for dear life, singing like mad, lightning flashes all around. OK, I never said it would be a good opera.
thanks, cbl2. i am very happy to hear no seniority. it’s being held ransom for his cooperation. excellent.
Thanks cbl2.
cbl2, great title.
Arlen Specter at the kiddie table and Phil Spector incacerated… every Specte(0)r in its proper place…
