I frequently criticize Mika Brzezinski, most recently for her claim that the left shares blame for the ridiculous Nazi comparisons that have become commonplace in political “debate”.  I have to give her credit for something she did today, though.

Joe Scarborough tried to bully her into agreeing that the Obama administration has been attacking, even “savaging”, right wing media figures and organizations.  Mika directly challenged him, saying “attacks” is the wrong word, insisting the Obama administration did not have some nefarious strategy to smear the right.  Joe kept trying to bully her, but she stood her ground, insisting that the Obama approach had been limited and successful, as in their suggestion that Rush Limbaugh is the real head of the Republican party.  Mika forced Joe to get defensive–he claimed the Obama approach is “not working”, saying Obama is “minus 9″ with independents right now, and his support is slipping in general.  (I have no idea what poll Joe is talking about, but the ones I’ve seen show Obama with strong general support–around 57-40.  A recent ABC/Washington Post poll shows independents giving Obama a 55% approval rating.  The most recent Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll shows independents supporting Obama by a 56-34% margin.  Don’t know how Scarborough can say Obama is “minus 9″ among independents–clearly, he’s in positive territory, at least in these 2 polls).

I don’t know what explains this.  I have watched Morning Joe pretty regularly for the last 18 months or so and have never seen Mika stand up to Joe’s blowhard tactics in this way before.  I hope we see much more of this–and maybe the next time he cites a vague, unnamed poll, she can call him out on that too.
