I noticed that from the first day that Ryan joined the Romney ticket, the campaign has been running away from The Ryan Budget.
The first 48-72 hours of Ryan’s VP candidacy saw John Sununu zipping from one TV interview to another to announce that Romney was NOT adopting The Ryan Budget and would have a budget plan of his own. Since then, both Romney and his surrogate speakers have been tripping over themselves to remind voters that Romney, not Ryan is at the top of the ticket. Who can forget Romney’s failed cheerleader moment when he could not turn a crowd cheering for Ryan into a crowd cheering “Romney-Ryan”?
On Friday night, Chris Matthews made a similar observation.
Matthews thinks that The Ryan Budget is the cause of Romney’s grief. Howard Fineman says that Romney did not pick Ryan for the The Ryan Budget. The more scrutiny The Ryan Budget gets, the less popular it becomes. Joy-Ann Reid says that The Ryan Budget has put Obama ahead in the over 60 voting bloc, a critical base for Romney.

Yeah. I thought the pick showed a bit of desperation, as well. Not as much as McCain’s pick of Palin, or Mondale with Ferraro, but a little like that. Something to shake up and energize a flagging campaign. But it also shows how out of touch they are, because they really seemed to believe most Americans are so clueless they wouldn’t notice Ryan wants to privatize Medicare.
Romney steamed into that iceberg himself. Now Ryan wants to charge for the life boats.
Ryan budget == Elder abuse
OK.
You won the internets today. That equation is brilliant!
It seems that Ryan is destroying Romney and Romney is destroying Ryan. It’s an odd arrangement. Mitt chose Ryan because the right wing loved him. Usually the VP nominee doesn’t set the agenda but in this case he did. Now Mitt’s going down because of the granny-strangler plus other things. And Ryan is going to be forever tarnished by being on the losing end of the worst campaign in history. No win for anyone.
I always figured the pick of Ryan showed that Romney knew he was going to lose in the general election anyway. Ryan doesn’t bring to Romney anyone that Romney shouldn’t already have locked down tight — and in fact alienates those seniors who follow AARP (in other words, most seniors with functioning brains). He also isn’t very helpful with the growing Hispanic bloc, either.
The only way Romney’s picking Ryan makes any sense at all is as a desperate effort to keep the base from revolting. No longer can a Republican presidential candidate switch to Not So Crazy Mode when the primaries are done; he must continue to placate the rabid crazy bigot base the GOP has whipped into a prejudiced frenzy with five decades’ worth of Southern Strategy obscenities.
Most ironic, is this the the R’s best candidate, elected after a lengthy primary.
The Rs are as bereft of electable candidates as they are programs that increase the general welfare.
I think long and hard about anything AARP recommends. There’s usually a better deal out there. They were pimps for Bush’s Medicare Part D once they realized the organization could cash in by selling Medicare Supplement plans run by United Health Care.
lets hope it sinks Skanky 350 bucks a bottle Ryan
PERMANENTLY!……vile scum of the earth animal abuser
Not for anyone?
No win for anyone …. or
By design a way to position the Ds for being the bringers of more bad times, worse times and letting lots of Americans know who to blame first when ACA is fully powered up,ACA fallthru(s) and penalities start showing up and lots of near to ten years out from retirement BabyBoomers find out/start finding out firsthand what a D Party POTUS has done to wreck their “golden years” modest hopes and aspirations.
Meanwhile in view of many Americans TeeVee trained short attention and memory retention spans the Rs will be able to field Jeb Bush in 2016.
Likely Paul Ryan will end up where Sarah Palin landed. Sarah who?
Barack Obama is serving the One Percent with a competence and sheen of polished misdirection no R POTUS could do that the One Percent surely will reward Barack Obama handsomely for doing when Obama retires from the WH in early 2017.
It is doubtful Barack Obama will ever look back.
Dbots/Obots got coming what Barack Obama wants to be giving.
Romney? Ryan? Romney is about as politically deaf as can be while Ryan is telling us he is boring. Obama loses to these two political clowns Obama should be sued for gross political malpractice. Please hire Eric Holder to lead Obama’s defense team. Malpractice deserves malpractice.
Romney and Ryan are stand-in placeholders for new and coming Bush Dynasty installs. One can surmise the Rs will be ready for some more BushBS by 2016 while Ds will be trying to make space apart or just run away from Barack Obama as fast as they can without being too obvious about it.
Poor Hillary Clinton will likely try for WH again…anyone else smelling another Gore Moment in the making with this likely being so?
