I would guess that most here watched at least a bit of the two political circuses that have been put on for our amusement. Of the two I think the democratic circus was much better produced with tighter production values, a more creative script and better jokes. The also did a better job of casting, though in some cases seemed a bit cast against type.
I came across this site from the Pew Research Center on ones political leanings. A bit of a test or poll as it were. Here is where I fit in.
As you can see, I’m nearly off the charts. (Click to view larger)
Here however is a site that gives a more nuanced view, in my opinion. From political compass.
As you can see I am out there and I have taken this test a number of times and it has turned out pretty much the same. For a heads up here is the 2012 election and the EU Member states.
Now my gut impression is that there are a fair number of people here at FDL whose politics are similar to mine.
However here are a few stats. In the last general election, 60% of the eligible voters actually voted. This is up from the 2000 election when 50% voted. (United States Elections Project)
Only around 25% of the electorate are actively involved with politics. Most of those who do vote do not know or even care about the issues and policies of the candidates and vote on their emotional response to them in some way. IE their hair style or personality etc.
There are probably more Asians in this country than far leftists. So do I think that we are likely to enact any of the current progressive policies that are heralded on this and other progressive sites ? Not in what’s left of my life time. So love them Liberals

What strikes me the most is even after 300 years or so, people still prefer the comfort of an authoritarian feudal society rather than one of a non-authoritarian democracy.
So with all the talk and yelling and preaching about freedom and liberty and democratic justice, most people are more comfortable without these things. In fact the biggest religions in the world are those that embrace an authoritarian dictatorial world view.
What’s going to happen after Obama is totally unpredictable. These times are so much different than any ever in my life, and I’m two days older than black pepper.
Wrong. Most people are more comfortable not to struggle for these things. And that is not their fault alone.
I am never sure what people mean by their terms, but, for the record, “far left” is communist, not liberal. This country did have a healthy communist party at one time, which attracted labor and those who advocated for equal civil rights.
People like Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Barry Goldwater and Herbert Hoover pretty much took care of it, though. And elected Democrats did not stand up. Neither did that blob, Eisenhower, who merely expanded Executive Privilege to protect his own cirle and to hell with the rest of America.
Anyway, I never took that particular test but I did take one in 2005 that showed me almost dead center. I suspect that was because whoever framed the test made the serious mistake of believing religion and politics are one and only Republicans are patriotic.
Whatever, I am still a light year left of Obama and a light year right of communism.
Propaganda would have us believe that far Left is Communist and vice versa, but that IS propaganda: Lenin, Stalin & Kosigyn didn’t tolerate Leftist, had them locked up or worse.
I’ve got Lenin’s book titled “Left-Wing Communism, an Infantile Disorder.”
But Liberals all over the world are Right-of-Center, though their attendant propaganda often says they are Left.
Mao with his “Cultural Revolution” was also very far Right: Repression of religions and ethnic groups, for instance.
Agreed. Most totalitarian leaders are far right. I would say far left would be anarchist, then.
I agree with that. (I took the tests, and ended up near you.)
Which goes along with what I have said previously. That so far we have simply replaced – in nearly all instances – one set of robber baron scumbags with a different set of robber baron scumbags.
In a democracy like what we are so fond of calling our government, we get to chose between two (not so) different robber baron scumbags.
But in reality, we don’t even have the choice between the two scumbags, because, did you hear what that one scumbag said? If you support him, you’re stupid! Better stick with the Fascist.
