Battle strike 1934
I thought I would list all the benefits we have experienced since feudalism was replaced by capitalism as the main economic model.
Feudalism exploited and enslaved the general populace – to one extent or another – to benefit a select few. Either through birthright or armed power. Quite often both. Under feudalism the means of production – both agricultural and industrial – were in the hands of the few. Acquired either from birthright or by force.
The end of feudalism was ostensibly to change this. It however did not. In fact empires grew the strongest under capitalism. Slavery and indentured servitude flourished under it. Countries and natives were colonized to acquire their wealth and resources to benefit the capitalist owners in the mother country. Displaced and quite often eliminated or enslaved.
Personal gain was the driving force behind nearly all endeavors. From adventurism to conquest. The monarchies that would continuously wage war with one another were replaced by capitalist and industrialists – who through their government servants – waged even bigger and bloodier wars. And in all cases it was the general populace that bore the brunt of the fighting and killing.
Banks and financial institutions began risky practices. Investing in and loaning money to anyone or anything that they were told was a sure money making enterprise. Profit was all and the quicker the better. Resulting in a long line of financial failures and economic crisis.
Capitalism’s quest for more and more wealth and gain. For continued expansion. Disregards any and all environmental and ecological concerns. Endangering the planet and those that live there. Capitalism requires continued growth in order to function.
Capitalists put monetary gain ahead of everything. Which is why the worst dictators in history were put in place and supported by capitalists – who also make the most from them. With total and complete disregard for what these people did to their citizens.
Contrary to popular believe capitalism does not encourage discovery, it stifles it. Unless a great deal of money can be made from it. And from the very start it will try to co-opt, defraud and steal ideas and inventions from those who make them. Such as RCA with Major Edwin Armstrong and Philo Farnsworth.
It will cut corners on everything to ensure greater profits. From wages to the workers, their working conditions and even the raw materials and designs. Knowingly marketing and producing items that are dangerous and even lethal. Like DDT, the Ford Pinto, numerous toys…to name but a few.
Capitalists are know to delay, sabotage and even kill any idea and/or product that may hurt their bottom line. Or attempt to gain exclusive ownership of it. The pharmaceutical industry is known for this. They will not develop a cure for anything they can make more money on by developing a continued treatment for.
They will use any means they can to get the consumer to buy into something and then blame them when it goes sour.
And contrary to popular belief, capitalists hate competition and will do what ever is necessary to eliminate it. Forming trusts and monopolies and fixing prices.
Yes people ow a lot to capitalism. Especially people like Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Anastasio Somoz, Augusto Pinochet, Mubarak, Bashar al-Assad ……….. and various CEOS, Bankers, Stock Brokers, Military leaders and weapons developers.
You and me…not so much.

There are those who still think they can regulate it and make it kinder and gentler.
Silly people.
Interesting diary cmk…Recommended
Was liking this my fdl diary cmk up to the second to last para where you parked two European political leader cliches from 70+ years ago that have been turned into caricatured cartoons from overuse/misuse while not mentioning any American WH leader(s) by name.
As for mentioning Bashar al-Assad? That seemed a far reach unless one has been taken in by WashingtonDC peddled Ways To View The World. Will note here Obama WH has just declared Bashar is not the guy running Syria. Wondering who gave Barack Obama that power of decision over Syria? Barack Obama would not be liking it if Iran or China declared Obama was not POTUS as far as they were concerned. Americans really have nose trouble about other nations internal affairs. Big time. American Hypocrisy is on full display these days around Syria.
Bashar al-Assad had nothing to do with the 2008 Wall St./USA Mortgage Ponzi Scheme(s) and surely is not the guy who Wall St. has paid off to do its bidding. Those guys are Americans with names like Schumer,Bush,Obama and Clinton just for starters.
You did not mention any American in particular by name or position such as U.S.Senator or POTUS. Did not specifically mention the Pentagon or CIA which are the two American Empire attack dogs doing what is sought done/kept done to run the American Empire’s Capitalism around the planet via dollar or sword.
Barack Obama is doing rotten politics aplenty in service to Wall St. and London these days and anyone who still thinks what ails the USA is all the fault of Bush,Cheney and the Maniac Republicans while giving the post 2008 Obama,Holder and Obama’s D Party run WH regime the Will Not Be Named Treatment is failing current events and post 2008 ways of things in USA and USG.
Capitalism does work for some but it leaves many more behind as it piles up it’s social cost numbers, taken private profits and reckless, heedless and wantonly ignorant exploitations going about what capitalism supposedly does beyond and behind the PR BS that is so amply shoved at us day in/day out.
Barack Obama is American Capitalism’s current USG FrontMan and to not mention what Obama is doing/not doing seems a omission.
Adolf Hitler and his Nazi goons had nothing on American Empire and Militarism. The Italian Demagogue did not either. American Militarism in particular is very much a product of propaganda catapulting, misdirection and ongoing subterfuge and overt/covert dishonesty. The goals are cloaked very often while the costs are given levels of smoke and mirror accounting that surpass sanity.
Leaving Adolf and Benito out of this perhaps has become a required restraint. We do have a very dangerous to many humans and humans well being American in the WH here and now today who is working to promote what capitalism is/does and does/is not. Via Madsion Avew.,K Street, Wall St.,the Pentagon, the CIA and the rotten OnePercent UniParty that Obama is a political creation of. Capitalism has nothing to do with American Democracy other than to circumvent it for worst of reasons and goals. Post 2008 USA/USG history shows this plainly enough.
I like and agree with your general composition cmk.Only pointing out these observations in the spirit of give and take. Not looking to stir up lots of chum please understand.
Oh…I figured that someone would point out that which I left out. After all had I covered all the bases, the game would have become boring.
But hey…isn’t this country the culmination of all Europe had to offer in this regard ? The All Stars of Capitalism, as it were.
You mention Anastasio Somoza of Nicaragua. I met some Somocistas once; they were exiles in Texas after the Sandinista Revolution. They felt absolutely entitled to get their old lifestyles, wealth, and power back. Totally disgusting people.
One of my friends married one. I never could understand why he was attracted to her since she was such an arrogant bitch. She pissed me off so badly with her condescending attitude that I told her it was a pity the Sandinistas had let her family out. Well, so much for that friendship. So it goes.
Anyway, the Jamie Dimons and George Wills and Mitt Romneys and Barack Obamas who all celebrate the glory of capitalism remind me of those Somocistas; they’re on top, and they think they are entitled to stay there. It makes me feel a little more empathy for the Robespierres and Lenins of the world.
Righteous rant. Recc’d.
LOL…dig it.
