Yes, Edward Bulwer-Lytton – the dramatist/novelist was born this day in 1803 in London. He’s “renowned” for writing arguably the worst opening sentence ever, “It was a dark and stormy night …” Immortalized by Snoopy in the Peanuts cartoon.

There is now contest in his name to celebrate his singularly unique style of writing. The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest. Where “WWW” means “Wretched Writers Welcome”.
