I spoke with my Senator, Chris Dodd, at a charity walk this afternoon. (His wife was the honorary chair.) I told him that we were counting on him to follow through on the health care bill and be sure that it includes a strong public option. He said unambiguously that it would. I then asked whether “Independent Democratic” Sen. Lieberman would vote for cloture on the bill, and he said that he would.
A small, but optimistic sign.

Thanks, cobernicus. I am originally from CT, Hartford was known as insurance capital of the world. It has made me suspicious of Dodd in all of this even though I admire him for FISA, etc.
Dodd got a lot of negative spotlight in Michael Moore’s latest movie. Startlingly so.
I feel like all the reps have been breathing in the kool-aid so long, they myopically assure us they are taking care of us, just as long as they don’t inconvenience the medical industrial complex. They can’t take care of both constituencies. In fact, the complex is who they are really working for.
And if UnitedHealth’s Helmsley earns $57,000 A DAY and if Congress is protecting and in all probability enhancing his salary soon with the new wave of profits from the mandatory ruling then we have been sold out by all in Wash., the Prez and both houses, even the nice Dems who are eloquent like Dodd and supposedly is filling in Kennedy’s shoes. And Kennedy succumbed to cronyism on this stuff, too, I sadly feel.
Single Payer is the only fiscally sane choice and they are colluding to pay back their campaign financing. The game is fixed and now kabuki performances to seem like the “croutons” of modest reform (from God knows what giveaways) from the GW crumbs will be hailed by them and corporate media as historically significant, instead of historically a TRAGEDY for so many.
Sorry for the negative first comment. I saw Dodd’s name and wanted to hear more.
Good going on the charity, btw!!!!
Thanks cobernicus! When you told him that we are counting on him, did you mention Firedoglake by name,or did you say “we” as in “we the people”?
I mostly like to believe that there’s no way they can not have the public option in the merged Senate bill, seeing how 1) every committee in the House and Senate except one produced a bill that has a public option, 2) the President said that a public option is the best way, 3) the public option is popular, and 4) it is the minimum that they can do and still say they did something good (anything less would be plain wrong).
Then there are other moments when I just have to wonder if any of them really care about doing the right thing for the people or for the country…
You mean there is actually somebody that not only listens to Him, but believes what He says.
We would be better off if He and His friends were in a Maximum Security Prison, instead of in the Senate working on our Healthcare.
Lieberman is a lying weasel. Dodd should know better than to trust him.
We’ll see.
(Congrats on a successful charity walk!)
Hi all,
In a semi-social setting, I did not lay the hammer on Chris Dodd, whom I know slightly from working on his previous campaign. Yes, Joe is a lying weasel, but if anyone can read him, I think it is Chris.
for iremember. You are entitled to your opinion, but Chris Dodd has been a strong advocate for health care for years, and has picked up the baton from Teddy.
