Ok this is rewrite from the last iteration of this blog post, since I got comment-scolded for “free advertising”. I honestly hadn’t intended on ruffling any netiquette feathers. I’d posted flippant description a media project I’m working on, and while I’m not about to shy away from (rarely) mentioning the fact that it exists, I’ll spare you the ad blurb that was here before. I’d meant it as a setting-the-stage for later blog posts, but whatever, I can see why someone else would think that form of shameless self-promotion was out of bounds. Anyhow I’m glad I got up the motivation to hammer it out for personal use elsewhere, and from now on it’s just the facts, ma’am.
So instead lets talk about where this diary is going. I live in sunny Santa Cruz CA, a place where wine-and-cheese liberal hypocrisy is a finely-tuned art form. I don’t want to badmouth the place too much, it has got it’s perks, but oh man, the political “leadership” here are running a real mickey mouse operation. There’s the vindictive anti-homeless laws for starters. Oh, how about the crackdown on #Occupy protestors? Felony charges were recently handed out to occupiers for taking over an abandoned bank building. I think this is going to be a crucial court case for the #Occupy movement, so I’ll be doing my best to get the word out about it in the coming months. And the about the rampant budget austerity coupled with increases to the budget of the increasingly militarized police force. Dirty hands, people, dirty hands.
I’ll also be throwing in my two cents about national issues – Bradley Manning’s mishandling is a huge concern, drone bombings are pretty ugly, I can’t just hop on a bullet train and ride smoothly to visit my out of town friends (who I love dearly) like I could in the rest of the developed world, and the future of free speech on the internet? ~that’s probably an important thing, yes? and when I do discuss matters of local important, I’m going to make sure to frame it in terms of looking at a microcosm that says something about the macrocos – the two-bit corruption in my town is probably not all that different from the two-bit corruption of your town.
