Hey CS,
Here is a link to a post at Science Daily. The geophysicists, seismologists, vulcanologists, etc…claim that the newly active fault structures have been created by the event last year that effected the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. They predict another event occurring soon of similar magnitude, but much closer to the power plant.
They recommend making the melted down plants much more secure in preparation of this event. Hilarious no? Or just absurd perhaps.

Thank you for the article Robert…most certainly a wake-up call.
And yes, hilarious/absurd. Pretty sure the next six-hundred-mile-an-hour tsunami wave would agree.
It’s a little scary to contemplate how much movement there is and how each one of those little noises is thousands of cubic MILES of crust that are re-adjusting.
Very interesting. Thanks C-S. rec’d
Yes, it is mind-blowing! Thanks for the rec, I was a little reluctant to post just a video, but I really thought this one was fascinating.
That is really cool…it would be interesting to compare years…I mean there must be patterns in all of this? Interesting to see if the sounds have a pattern? Fascinating stuff.
That would be cool. I did not hunt around for other years, but it stands to reason that there may be patterns.
Here is the USGS list for 2011. You can see all of the earthquakes off the east coast of Honshu, Japan:

Here is a January 29, 2012 article from Japan Times, explaining that a 200-km active fault has been discovered off Honshu’s Kii Peninsula- and, if that fault moves, it could trigger another 8.0 magnitude earthquake:

Fun visualization — thanks!
Hey, here’s something fun — let’s play the “Causation, Correlation, or just an uncanny Coincidence?!” — gameshow.
Here’s how it works — find an uncanny coincidence and spend years trying to find a correlation or causative impetus.
My favorite… Sunspots and earthquakes:
Causation? Correlation? Uncanny coincidence?
You decide! All votes tallied by Arthur Enronson.
OK [ed. note: make it quick, pal] here we go!
Big, earth-directed solar flare…
October 29, 2003 – The Halloween Storm – This Halloween Storm spawned auroras that were seen over most of North America. Extensive satellite problems were reported, including the loss of the $450 million Midori-2 research satellite. Highly publicized in the news media. A huge solar storm has impacted the Earth, just over 19 hours after leaving the sun. This is one of the fastest solar storm in historic times, only beaten by the perfect solar storm in 1859 which spent an estimated 17 hours in transit. A few days later on November 4, 2003 one of the most powerful x-ray flares ever detected, swamped the sensors of dozens of satellites, causing satellite operations anomalies….but no aurora. Originally classified as an X28 flare, it was upgrade to X34 a month later. In all of its fury, it never became a white light flare such as the one observed by Carrington in 1859. Astronauts hid deep within the body of the International Space Station, but still reported radiation effects and ocular ‘shooting stars’.
Earthquake 2 days later (October 31, 2003): Magnitude 7.0 OFF THE EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN
Aw, who knows. Earthquakes happen all the time, right?
Big, earth-directed solar flare X1.5 – March 9,2011
You guessed it, followed by a big earthquake two days later! In the same place!!
Magnitude 9.0 – NEAR THE EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN 2011 March 11 05:46:24 UTC
Hmmm, that is an uncanny coincidence! That is almost as if the events are correlated! Hey, could an impacting plasma cloud from the sun really exert geo-effective pressure on certain terrestrial faults?
Stay tuned for the next episode! And don’t forget to support the Heartland Institutes new educational initiative “There’s nothing new under the Sun!”.
Yes, the coincidence is uncanny. I will read more about solar flares- I knew nothing about them!
Thank you for stopping by, and I am sorry for not replying sooner- we were gone most of the day.
Keep dem posts comin’!
