US Senate hopeful from Missouri Todd Akin has walked back his comment and apologized for not being more clear. What he actually meant to say is explained in this article titled, I Misspoke—What I Meant To Say Is ‘I Am Dumb As Dog Shit And I Am A Terrible Human Being’.
What he meant to say about legitimate rape is as follows:
It is clear to me now that I did not choose my words with care and did not get across the point I was trying to convey. In hindsight, I guess instead of using the words “legitimate rape,” I should have used the words “I am an unforgivable, unrepentant, and unconscionable subhuman dickhead.” Or better yet, “I am an evil, fucked-up man who should never have been elected to the United States Congress, and anyone who would vote for me is probably a pretty big fucking dumbshit, too.”
His clarification takes the focus off women who have magical chemicals in their bodies to deal with rapes that they secretly enjoyed anyway, and firmly redirects the spotlight onto what an egregious scumbucket Akin is. Since there is often such great and unfortunate misunderstanding about what politicians actually said and what they in reality meant to say, and emphasizing that it is way more important for voters to understand meaning versus the confusing statements uttered, Akin goes to great lengths to clarify his true meaning and intent by further stating:
But if you actually go back and look at the remarks closely, you’ll see that what I was actually trying to convey in my statement was that
(1) I am a big fucking idiot,
(2) I am a nauseating slug of a human being who doesn’t deserve to live, and
(3) I am essentially everything that’s wrong with this country and with humanity in general.
Honestly, that’s all I was trying to get across there. It was a simple misunderstanding, really.
It’s funny, because, in my head, I remember thinking very vividly, “I, Rep. Todd Akin, am a bigoted jackass…
Akin laments that statements made to the press can “come back to haunt you in a hurry.” His clarification and apology will set the record straight so he can proceed with his campaign for a seat in the US Senate. He has decided, however, to keep some of his other beliefs secret, because the statement about legitimate rape and magical female body chemicals was so grossly misunderstood, and it takes precious time and effort to clear things up. He will not be commenting, therefore, on his other beliefs about little green men on the lawn, fairies and goblins, sock demons, one-eyed giant purple people eaters, Martian ray guns and flying noodle monsters with scales.
To prevent anything that can be grossly mistaken like the legitimate rape statement from happening again, Akin goes the extra mile and suggests:
somebody should apply dozens of layers of duct tape to my mouth every morning so that words are not able to exit my large, dumb, misogynist, imbecilic mouth at any point;…

I guess the only question left to be addressed is how many clowns can be stuffed into the GOP clown car.
With today’s announcement of a GOP proposed constitutional amendment banning all forms of abortion and basically contraception, the capture of the GOP by the religious lunatics appears to be complete.
Wow! The inmates really are running the GOP asylum.
FYI: Kevin Phillips in his important book ‘American Theocracy’ makes a strong case for labeling today’s GOP (actually started with Bush 43) as America’s first religious political party.
And they said ‘It can’t Happen Here’- Thanks S. Lewis.
And of course thanks C-S and recommended
Sheer lunacy. It’s getting ugly out there, isn’t it?
More in a bit, thanks very much for the read and rec!
hey CS…the length and breadth of this mans stupidity, and that he gained a national office, is scary and staggering
Oh, Hi sadlyyes! Yes, it is staggering. I don’t know what is worse, the hateful sexist politicians like this one or the people who support him.
OT- Our feral cats have not been out much during the heat/drought so I have not seen the friendly black cat again:(
Hope to see him in the Fall when things cool down.
Thanks for the read.
put some good smelly sardines out, they cant resist.thank dog for the critters they keep me sane, happy, and balanced, best regards to you and Mason always
Okay, will do, we happen to have some sardines on hand!
The political handwriting is now smeared loud and clear on the wall.
The GOP will employ a constitutional amendment banning all forms of birth control and abortion as its rallying cry to bring the religious fanatics who normally couldn’t stomach the thought of a Mormon in the White House under the big revival tent of superstition, ignorance, stupidity, and fear.
With banners flying and horns blaring and spittle dripping from hate distorted faces we will be forced back, back into that glorious 14th century when men were burned alive at the stake for daring to question authority and think for themselves.
It will be war.
And the war will be religious in nature.
And we will all lose.
The ultimate victim will be the humanistic foundation of the Enlightenment.
“…Reason, ethics, and justice…” will be destroyed and the supernatural and religion will be the totalitarian “…basis of morality and decision-making” Wikipedia
Humanism, oh humanism, your beautiful face will not be seen again for many lifetimes.
And you will be sorely missed.
Adieu sweet dreams of freedom.

Let me get this straight:
So, the Republican Party advocates allowing a mother and fetus both to die tragically when, absent life-saving abortion, the mother would die. Is that right? Okay, well at least it is consistent with the rest of the hypocrisy going on, that is to say, the many and varied other ways that party advocates killing (war that takes the lives of many women and children, death penalty, etc)
BTW, in my Presbyterian upbringing, war in the name of religion, from what I learned, was never part of Jesus’s teachings or convictions. He was a man of peace, and he tried to teach people to treat each other with respect and kindness. (In some circles, being raised this way assures me a seat in Hell, I am pretty sure)
Also, is the Republican Party going to be practicing medicine, then?
I’m sure there are many volunteers.
Your posts inevitably lead me to thank God, (as understood by me) for the ability to read.
Highly recommended.
I can see people lining up like that scene in the airplane movie:

Thank you Watt4Bob, but Onion deserves most of the credit. I simply embellished, summarized and added a few of my own thoughts. Comments like that lay a person wide open for political parody. The guy may as well walk around with a bull’s eye on him.
Much appreciate the rec, thanks!
Yes – I was envisioning something along those lines!
What has not been said…yet…is that the dems have not said a lot about this because truthfully a large number of them really do believe the Akin is spot on.
Oh Lord.
Excuse me, but apparently there is legitimate rape according to the Republicans and Democrats: I have a bleeding arse to prove it.
I recommended this because this post was too funny and great. But please tell me how you got this on the front page of my fdl when the editors told me my posts don’t get that exposure because mine use too much “invective”…LOL!
Well, first of all, thank you for your great comment before this and for your excellent post today- I did sign and recommend.
I cannot answer your question for sure because I do not know how the myFDL page works. Now, as for invective, yes, it is in this post. However, I clearly tagged it a satire and a parody and I linked to Onion, so as to give heads-up that the message about the offensiveness of Rep. Akin’s unfortunate comment, that has been extensive subject in news the past couple of days, is conveyed with humor. Satire borders on the ridiculous (in this case it is), but satire is also an effective form of social study that gets people thinking. This post is pretty unmistakable political satire.
I have nothing to do with paging decisions at this site, though!
It’s an honest mistake that Rep. Akin has made, really. You see, his natural protective zealot juices cause his brain to spontaneously slough off any unwelcomed conception of Reality.
According to the top news story on Google News just now titled, Akin says Paul Ryan urged him to quit Senate race (USA Today), it looks like this is the truth.
Looks like the reality is that the comment and backlash has a GOP top runner concerned enough to suggest Akin quit the race. I don’t know what the man was thinking, making such an over the top and insensitive, bizarre comment. If one wanted to perform political suicide, what would they say in front of a camera? Well, something like “legitimate rape,: I guess.
Thank you. Please keep doing more of the same. Loved it.
(((((CS)))))
Political schmolitical!
A Stars and Stripes Forever sort of theocratic dictatorship would appear to be the actual prize he eyes. Rep. Akin might see it as something way more than that, however…
Recently a man in Missouri told me that God is going to do away with all political parties and DIRECTLY rule over us… by way of angels. I think he even told me the angels’ names and the particular verses that prove it is so. But, I could be mistaken about that. Apparently some evangelicals have Bible verses to quote that prove, to them, that the end of all of democracy is at hand – and soon.
If someone believes that God is definitely going to step in and take over, do they really care about politics or what is actually happening in the world right now? Possibly not.
You too, Barefoot Accountant. I always read your posts, and appreciated the effort for Dr. Stein, for example.
Well, you raise a good point. I think that we as people with ability to act have to try to do our best when it comes to actions, rather than assign God to the fallout for our not doing so.
I have heard all sorts of crazy stuff. A woman once told me, and this was over an opened bible, that God allowed the holocaust to happen, to make the world a better place. I kid you not. So, you know, you cannot reason with non-reason.
Amen to that!
Very well put, IMHO, Crane-Station. That was pretty much my response to the man in MO.
My Dear Bean Counter:
It grieves me sorely to see you in such despair, and so to help you answer your query I would suggest that you toy with the concept of ‘an anointed gaggle of emasculated sycophants’.
Now while I would never, and let me emphasize never, point a finger or suggest even by innuendo that such a state of ‘despairs’ exist, I just want to be helpful and fair* to all parties involved.
You want front page?
You got to play the game.
No play game: no front page.
*The only valid context in which I have been able to place the word fair is a place where pigs vie for a blue ribbon.
I will now return you to your locally programmed conditioning.
He is sorry he mis said a word but he is not sorry for the actual meaning of what he said which is what we all got mad about in the first place.
This apology is a saran wrap fig leaf.
Rep Ryan’s view’s are remarkably similar Abortion in cases of rape are something the majority of people support.
But rather than can this shit can Akin the GOP is letting him run and letting us point out that he and Rep Ryan Mitt’s VP both share the same crazy views?
Sometimes I think the GOP is throwing us this election.
