As Haaretz had reported on Turkish PM Erdogan’s address to the Arab League today in Cairo…
Erdogan: Israel’s mentality is a barrier to Mideast peace
Turkish PM, speaking before Arab League meeting in Cairo, attacks Israeli government’s policies, says recognition of Palestinian state is ‘an obligation.’
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a meeting of Arab League foreign ministers in Cairo on Tuesday that the mentality of the Israeli government serves as an obstacle to peace in the Middle East, and stressed the need for recognition of a Palestinian state.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a tour on the Egyptian border that “eventually common sense and logic prevail, both on our side and on the other side.”…
One could only hope so, Bibi…!

US envoys head back to Mideast
US envoys Ross and Hale return to the Middle East this week to try to revive Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and avert a Palestinian bid for UN membership.
Mind ya, that would be Two whole envoys, do you suppose that’ll make a diff…?

Israel pushes the Bedouins towards an Intifada
The government’s decision to adopt the Prawer report is the latest in a series of injustices towards Israel’s Bedouin citizens
As if the immolation of relations with Egypt and Turkey wasn’t enough, the Netanyahu government decided to open a new front, this time with the Israeli Bedouins…
And…
Jordanian king: “We have fought Israel more than once, we’re calm”
…Most of the headlines in Israeli and international media went with the “Jordan will never be Palestine” or “Israel in tough situation” headlines. I would have chosen something else, which for some reason is a part of the King’s speech that was not translated in most of the news sites I skimmed through, and gave me the chills:
“We have an army and we have fought Israel more than once. We are calm.”
Talk about “tough”…
It’s not just Jordan, Egypt, and Turkey, the Lebanese Army is on High Alert, with the fact that the Sabra and Shatila Massacres anniversary approaches…!

Clinton: Road to Palestinian State Doesn’t Run Through New York
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reiterated on Tuesday her country’s position that the Palestinian Authority’s unilateral statehood bid is a mistake.
In a press conference in which she confirmed that envoys David Hale and Dennis Ross would be returning to the region, Clinton said that the path to a two-state solution creating a Palestinian state runs through Jerusalem and Ramallah, not through New York.

‘Israel’s mentality is a barrier to Mideast peace’ – no truer words were ever spoken
No doubt about it, Ellie…!

This is a land grab I expect Bibi’s friends in real estate want to put up more high priced condos.
Did they ever hear of Precedent? The turks, the English and Israel by tact consent accepted that this was their land for centuries!
I know American real estate law has something about possession being 9/10s of the law.
But, TCU, The Bedouin are nomadic period, As Yossi pointed out…
It is a well known fact that during the Turkish regime, the Bedouin tribes refrained from, and in many cases actually opposed, registering their lands in the government estate books, claiming that land registration will bring about, sooner or later, them being seized for military service, which the Bedouins strongly opposed.
As the country was conquered by the British, all of the Bedouin lands – with few exceptions – were unregistered in the estate books. Even so, the Bedouin considered all the lands they cultivated as their own, even though they did not have the deed. The authorities, both Turkish and British, recognized this fact…
Btw, Israel is effectively halving their traditional nomadic range lands in the Negev Desert, by implementing the Prawer report…! 8-(
Jimmy Carter weighs in on UN Palestine statehood vote http://t.co/HHwx3iT
He starts out right, but ends up handing out stale ideas after assuming there will be no UNSC recognition.
These were football hooligans. The only violence present used was on them at US request, killing 3 and injuring 1900. They were engaged in property destruction.
He only recognizes Palestinian violence. In the real world it’s 100:1 – Israel.
No mention of a mutual recognition which is essential and actually the source of the problem.
More of the same.. With guidance from the EU, Quartet including (the Zionist lackey, War Criminal, and God Father to Rupert Murdoch’s daughters) Tony Blair,
they’ll return to fruitless negotiations until one man from the master race – Netanyahu, whose Likud party charter states it will never recognize a Palestinian State, decides to release the entire population from bondage and recognize a Palestinian State..
He casually decides that Palestinians will be denied the right of return to Israel, except for a token number ..
All so the US can regain its place with a leadership role in the region… He doesn’t realize it’s too late for that.
Jimmy Carter should stick to history instead of trying to define new parameters. (what is it with this white man’s burden? )
Mahalo, Shek…!

Exactly…! Something I’d pointed out in my last post…!
One point that Jimmy always fails to grasp is that Palestine has no option, but, to ‘recognize’ Israel…! After all they are dictating the ‘real facts’ on the ground…! 8-(
The statement she’s using is one that belongs to the neocons,
Hillary Clinton’s got a lot of nerve after voting for this neocon abomination of an Iraqi war, she’s essentially declaring that the US will never be part of the solution. She’s spitting in our faces too.
They already have recognized Israel and the PLO charter was modified.
To keep bringing it up is to ignore that history and pretend they haven’t so that Israel can change the language adding “Jewish”.
I wonder if Jimmy Carter wrote that article himself? He should have had it proof read if so.
On the good side, Ron Paul really did a great thing last night during the debate by mentioning Palestine. Wolf Blitzer tried to shut him down immediately. :) CNN said 3.6 million watched the debate!

it’s time to make a deal.
There is an update at your link to King Abdulla of Jordan’s speech
Can you imagine? The gall to claim there is no other justification for Jordan’s existence than what use they might be to Israel?
I think that would be classified as one of those “existential threats” the Israelis are always screaming about. These people are nuts and their delusions are being encouraged!
Land can be held in common look at common fields European Peasants shared as grazing land in common as long as the local government respected the arrangement you have de facto acceptance of the arrangement by local authorities.
I am not sure what the Prawer report uses as legal strategy.
Tenancy in Common.
Tenants in common share possession equally but may own equal or unequal shares of the home. If one party dies, unless the surviving party is named in the will, the decedent’s interest passes to heirs.
Tenants in common share one unity. The right of possession. All tenants in common have the right to occupy the property, and neither party can exclude the other.

Adverse possession is a process by which premises can change ownership. It is a common law concept concerning the title to real property (land and the fixed structures built upon it). By adverse possession, title to another’s real property can be acquired without compensation, by holding the property in a manner that conflicts with the true owner’s rights for a specified period. For example, squatter’s rights are a specific form of adverse possession.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adverse_possession
The Bedouin seem to have done adverse possession back in Turkish Times the British and Israeli’s respected that title until now.
Even
Eminent domain must mean compensation at fair market value. Also is it for public use one can argue that given the housing crisis in Israel forcing a bunch of nomads to move to the cities is not in the public interest.
If the aim is to force them to leave Israel then you are using Eminent domain to steal their citizenship and the benefits of Israeli citizenship which I think is the goal here. Bibi does not want them to vote next election so steal their land and hope they move to another country.
Eminent domain (United States), compulsory purchase (United Kingdom, New Zealand, Ireland), resumption/compulsory acquisition (Australia), or expropriation (South Africa and Canada) is an action of the state to seize a citizen’s private property, expropriate property, or seize a citizen’s rights in property with due monetary compensation, but without the owner’s consent. The property is taken either for government use or by delegation to third parties who will devote it to public or civic use or, in some cases, economic development.

Great post, thank you, CTuttle.
It is so weird to imagine Turkey as a hero of human rights. Up is Down, in these times.
CT, I would like to think the rest of the world now marches on, regardless of our failing empire.
Perhaps this diary is evidence of that.

Dawg Bless Ya, the Palistinean’s and all of us.
. “Saudi leaders would be forced by domestic and regional pressures to adopt a far more independent and assertive foreign policy.”
http://news.antiwar.com/2011/09/12/saudi-official-us-veto-for-palestinian-state-will-cost-saudi-alliance/
Right after the vote is key are the Saudis going to do nothing as usual or will they do the one thing they can do?
Raise the price of oil? Given the Saudis fears of Arab Spring they need to look tough to rule plus America needs oil and will pay where else can we go?
I expect natural gas cars and T-Boone are hoping this happens I expect more fracking from Obama on a level even Kirk Murphy never had nightmares about.
Green Power will be ignored and China will keep putting American green companies out of business China will go electric car as we go with natural gas probably non fuel celled power natural gas cars:(

The gall to claim there is no other justification for Jordan’s existence than what use they might be to Israel?
Imagine if you live in jordan and read this! Gall in not the term I would use I would use… Beggar you can’t have a King who is dependent on others as your leader.
Let alone a king who is dependent on your your worse enemy. As I understand it Jordan has many Palestinians and many Bedouin if Israel steals land from the Bedouin and they leave and go to Jordan I don’t think the King of Jordan will be around much longer.
That’s the only card the Saudis have: oil. If they are going to play it, it would be out there already, given that the US has stood its ground and will continue to carry water for Israel at the UN. It is unlikely that Obama would risk more reelection woes than he already has by irritating AIPAC with a UNSC vote supporting a Palestinian state.
Thanks for the story, Tuttle.
