The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Governor Blagojevich has had his Security Clearances revoked:
Gov. Blagojevich’s access to classified federal security information was revoked by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security after he was charged last month with trying to sell a Senate seat to the highest bidder, officials confirmed Friday.
Every governor is given such a clearance by Homeland Security to receive briefings on sensitive security information from Homeland Security and other federal agencies such as the FBI, said Amy Kudwa, spokeswoman for Homeland Security.
"Being the subject of a criminal complaint, no matter who you are, is a disqualification," she said.
Now, this is really not all that much of a surprise. As the article notes later, Governor Spitzer reportedly had the same thing happen when he was under investigation.
As always though, the report has me wondering about the double standard. Headlines that Blagojevich (or Spitzer) have their security clearances revoked because of criminal complaints or because they are under investigation.
Did anyone see any headlines about Larry Craig and David Vitter losing their clearances while being investigated? How about Karl Rove? Cheney?
Have you seen any headlines about any Republicans losing their security clearances during any of the investigations?
No, I didn’t see any of those headlines either.

Or Ted Stevens?
Yep or Duke Cunningham or any of the myriad Republicans who have been under investigation these last few years.
But AP sure made a point of putting this in headlines, which is where I first saw it.
