What’s on your mind tonight?
Hello, and thanks for this thread! It’s actually after midnight now in California, but still “tonight” for me.
Curiously, what’s on my mind at the moment is President Johnson’s Baltimore speech on April 7, 1965, when he spoke about peace in Vietnam, and, if I recall correctly, said “Let us reason together” — even in the midst of an escalating bombing campaign against the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (the northern zone). As a teenager, I found that a bit contradictory; I got involved with opposing the Vietnam War in 1964, and found the escalation sadly not surprising. We had a teach-in at my school at around the time of that Baltimore speech. I was avidly reading Liberation Magazine and I.F. Stone.
