As you may have noticed with my various Food Sunday posts, I like to cook and enjoy talking about cooking and recipes. Among the positives of today’s social media is the sharing of recipes. Whether it is on Facebook, Stumbleupon or Pinterest (primarily these), people can find wide varieties of recipes that their friends have recommended or that look interesting or easy or whatever you are looking for with recipes and cooking.
Recently on Facebook I’ve noticed people sharing recipes and in the status telling folks to “share” to their timelines so that the recipe can more readily be found later. Other times, I’ve noticed a lot of sharing of recipes through Pinterest. I have just now joined Pinterest so I obviously do not know all the ins and outs of it, but from what I have seen to start and from what I’ve seen with people sharing Pinterest recipes on Facebook, you can find good, simple recipes all over the place.
For example, a friend form my hometown shared a recipe for a variant on a baked potato. Take a potato, clean it then using a sharp paring knife, slice it almost all the way through. Drizzle some olive oil and butter then some sea salt and fresh black pepper. Put it on a flat pan into the oven at 425 for 45 – 50 minutes. As soon as I first saw this recipe, I made it (since I had been about to start my dinner at that point, it was quite timely.) You can peel the potato if you wish though I usually do not. When the potato is done, it is opened like an accordion.
Have you ever had baked eggs? I had some yesterday, the recipe was also on Pinterest. Take a cupcake tin, run some oil around the inside of the ‘holes’, break an egg into each hole, salt and pepper to taste and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes (depending on how hard or soft you want the eggs.) The eggs come out similar to how the eggs are for an Egg McMuffin™. This seems to be an easy recipe if you are having to cook for a horde of people and is an alternative to scrambling.
As always when you find a basic recipe that you think is interesting, try it then experiment with those changes that you think might be for your taste and ENJOY!
