Most of us have progressive buyer’s remorse. We thought we gave a sweeping vote for change and have found subsequently that our electees would just have to work harder to maintain the status quo. While Republican obstructionism has been abhorrent, I haven’t exactly been thrilled with what the Democrats have done with the mandate I thought I had given them.
That being said I’m pretty excited about the guys I consider Firebrands. Let’s watch Anthony Weiner in action:
Even though this kind of rhetoric may be a bit over the top, I think it is just the kind of antidote to what’s going on in politics. You can’t fight impassioned emotion, however illogical, with calm reason. You’ve got to get the mob to stop moving before you can start to try to change their minds.
Simultaneously you’ve got to admit that Alan Grayson has got guts. That guy has been saying what’s on everyone’s mind. These voices really get me excited, but they’re also fresh. I’m hoping that they still have that kind of passion once the political machine has ground them through the gears a few times.

Marcy Kaptur is another one. Democrats are supposed to be polite and I’m comfortable with that most of the time. But we need some ass-kickers right now. The important thing to remember is that fire is fine as long as it’s backed up with truth. The temptation to add drama to a situation must be avoided. It’s something Republicans just can’t resist. I’d love to see more searing rhetoric, keep it real though, keep it real.
Weiner and Grayson need to direct some of that fire towards recalcitrant and corrupt members of the Democratic Party.
The GOP are thugs bent on obstructing every bill on the Democrat’s plate, but they would be useless without bought-and-paid for DINOs like Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman, and also anti-woman yahoos like Stupak.
Let’s see these brave politicians call out the obstructionists on their own side of the aisle.
davidd — It really is a dangerous tool. It can turn on you easily.
willf — I couldn’t agree with you more about preaching to some of those in our own camp.
David Acel- Yeah, it can be. I generally dislike the current shrill-style discourse so in vogue these days. But a little fire can get attention and if you keep getting poked in the eye, and Republicans are certainly poking at anyone who even slightly disagrees with them, a raised voice is not an irresponsible response. Again though, the truth is more important than the drama.
