The Right to Belong

“A nation is truly corrupt, when, after having, by degrees lost its character and liberty, it slides from democracy into aristocracy or monarchy; this is the death of the political body by decrepitude.” – Robespierre

Congratulations, if you’re an hourly worker in the United States you’ve earned a .02 cent per hour raise last month! (April) Now of course, after earning almost a whole extra dollar per week, tax and investment advice should be sought out immediately. If you work in information services for a living, your hours worked increased this month, by one tenth of an hour. 2,691,000 Americans work in the “information” category and I guess they’re lucky to be working that extra fractional hour, even if there are 9,000 less of them, working this month over last.

For everyone else, all 155 million of us American workers, hours worked in every category either fell or stayed the same. The propaganda networks will trumpet 165,000 “new” jobs and that’s Winston Smith’s way of telling you, everything is so much better now. Come out; come out where ever you are! Ollie, Ollie Ocean free! But under the veneer is another story entirely, a story that you will not see on TV or Radio.

While 165,000 new jobs were created last month, 210,000 workers joined the labor force.

The number of Americans working Part-Time, for economic reasons rose sharply by 278,000 in April, to nearly 8,000,000 people. Eight million people in this country that want a Full-Time job, but can’t find one.

Part-Time due to slack work or business conditions rose to 5,250,000.
The number of Americans who could only find part-time work last month declined by 49,000.

Workers marginally attached to labor force were up by 21,000 and discouraged workers are also up by 32,000 workers.

Nearly 2,000,000 Americans now work two or more part-time jobs, an increase of over 20,000 since last April.

So just where are all these “new” jobs? Well, they’re not in mining or logging and not in construction or manufacturing. They’re not in durable goods or non-durable goods; they’re not in wholesale trade or utilities and even our friends in “Information services” lost workers. The new jobs are to be found in private-service providing, 137,000 of 165,000 jobs are in the service industry.

Trade, Transport – 9,000
Retail – 13,000
Financial services – 19,000
Professional and business services – 50,000
Leisure and hospitality services – 36,000
Education & Health Services – 24,000
Other services – 4,000

Realty Trac reported this month, “The number of homes overall in foreclosure or bank-owned rose by 9 percent to 1.5 million properties nationally in the first quarter of 2013 compared to a year ago.” Another 11 million homes remain under water, which brings us to Margaret Thatcher.

Margaret Thatcher once said, “There is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families.”

Margaret Thatcher was a Neoliberalist politician, same as Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Duh be you and Barack Obama. And Neoliberalist politicians, Republican and Democrat alike, believe just like Thatcher, that society, American society is only an artificial construct; they believe that it only exists because people say it does.

They believe we’re all just free individuals and we might be our brother’s keeper but definitely not yours. They believe the only rights which actually exist, are property rights; everything else, like society itself is an artificial construct. The Bill of Rights, the Magna Carta and the Constitution are all non-sense, to their way of thinking government owes nothing to the sick, the infirm or the dying.

Taken at the Flood

Taken at the Flood
By David Glenn Cox

It is a sad thing how many perceive democracy as a stream, flowing gracefully through a green meadow. It was Albert Einstein who said, “God doesn’t play dice with the universe” man however does. Every inch of riverbank, every drop of water contrived and placed there and sometimes, its reflection blinds us to it.

“There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat;
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.” ~ William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

The death of democracy is no small thing; its mock replacement is but small comfort. Its death comes not by a swords gushing wound, but by paper cuts. The democracy of the locked door and the midnight gavel, but when rights earned by the blood of man, are stripped away, it prophecies that men shall die once again in regaining them.

In 1963, President Kennedy died violently by assassin’s bullets, Kennedy had told his brother Robert, the Attorney General that the CIA had tried to trick him into a war with Cuba. Later, during the Cuban missile crisis Kennedy’s administration successfully brokered a deal avoiding a third World War, a nuclear third World War. To some however, a nuclear war was preferable to a Communist State only ninety miles from our shores.

Three weeks before the President’s assassination in Dallas, Vietnamese generals with the blessing of the CIA assassinated the President of South Vietnam, Ngô Đình Diệm in a coup d’état. Diệm had been our guy, before his excesses and his incompetence made him not our guy, similar to the way Saddam Hussein was our guy before he wasn’t our guy.

“I can scarcely believe the Americans would be so stupid.” ~ Ho Chi Minh

The Gulf of Tonkin incident was a fraud; a mere vehicle to justify a war. A horrendous lie perpetrated to deceive the American public into supporting an unnecessary war.

For more than a decade Martin Luther King had worked for civil rights on behalf of African Americans. Many times he had faced death threats and yet, he still lived.

“Over the past two years, as I have moved to break the betrayal of my own silences and to speak from the burnings of my own heart, as I have called for radical departures from the destruction of Vietnam, many persons have questioned me about the wisdom of my path. At the heart of their concerns this query has often loomed large and loud: Why are you speaking about war, Dr. King? Why are you joining the voices of dissent? Peace and civil rights don’t mix, they say. Aren’t you hurting the cause of your people, they ask? And when I hear them, though I often understand the source of their concern, I am nevertheless greatly saddened, for such questions mean that the inquirers have not really known me, my commitment or my calling. Indeed, their questions suggest that they do not know the world in which they live.” ~ Martin Luther King, April 4, 1967

In one year to the day, Martin Luther King would be shot dead.

“This misconception rests on a second illusion—the illusion that we can win a war which the South Vietnamese cannot win for themselves. You cannot expect people to risk their lives and endure hardship unless they have a stake in their own society. They must have a clear sense of identification with their own government, a belief they are participating in a cause worth fighting for.

People will not fight to line the pockets of generals or swell the bank accounts of the wealthy. They are far more likely to close their eyes and shut their doors in the face of their government—even as they did last week.

More than any election, more than any proud boast, that single fact reveals the truth. We have an ally in name only. We support a government without supporters. Without the efforts of American arms that government would not last a day.” ~ Robert F. Kennedy, February 8, 1968

In less than four months, Robert F. Kennedy would be shot dead after winning the California Democratic primary.

“In the past few days, however, it has become evident to me that I no longer have a strong enough political base in the Congress to justify continuing that effort. As long as there was such a base, I felt strongly that it was necessary to see the constitutional process through to its conclusion, that to do otherwise would be unfaithful to the spirit of that deliberately difficult process and a dangerously destabilizing precedent for the future.

But with the disappearance of that base, I now believe that the constitutional purpose has been served, and there is no longer a need for the process to be prolonged.” ~ Richard Nixon, August 4, 1974

Richard Nixon was a war criminal; if he had faced a Nuremberg docket he would have been hung. Nixon had ordered the bombings of dams and power stations inside of North Vietnam. He had violated American law by secretly bombing and invading Laos and Cambodia and we are then to believe he was removed from power over a bungled burglary?

Beginning in 1970, Nixon began ordering American troops pulled back from border areas of Vietnam. He began to replace land power with air power, but clearly, the program was a failure. In February of 1971, the South Vietnamese began a military operation attempting to cut the Ho Chi Minh trail. It ended disastrously, with South Vietnamese soldiers abandoned their vehicles and hung desperately to the skids of helicopters evacuating the wounded.

By 1971, US troop levels in Vietnam had fallen from 536,000 to less than 200,000 with a deadline to remove 45,000 more before February. A 1972, attack by North Vietnamese forces quickly overran southern provinces illustrating to all the complete ineptitude of South Vietnamese forces.Nixon had placed his bet and he had lost; Gerald Ford assumed the Presidency without popular vote or Electoral College. Richard Nixon had once famously remarked, “If the President does it, it’s not illegal.” Gerald Ford, in pardoning Richard Nixon, made that statement a truism.

Jimmy Carter had warned America of the dangers of over reliance on fossil fuels, he advocated for peace, while building America’s first alternative energy power plants. Carter was fighting a colossus with a wooden sword. During the 1980 Presidential Campaign Carter’s debate notes were stolen, eventually ending up in the hands of the Reagan Campaign. The primary suspect in this theft was an Air Force lieutenant named Robert Gates.

The election of Ronald Reagan accelerated America’s decline, a massive military build up, accompanied by aggressive military bravado which almost caused a nuclear exchange. While Reagan promised morning in America, he cut taxes for the wealthy and services for the middle class. The Reagan administration even went so far as to reclassify ketchup as a vegetable, in order to cut money spent on the school lunches of poor children.

While cutting funding for education and services to the middle class the money was misspent on billion dollar plastic airplanes and even airplanes, which could barely fly and the refitting WW2 battleships. Incursions into Grenada illustrated America’s new belligerence, along with covert wars in Central America. Are you beginning to see where this current will carry us?

“I spent thirty-three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country’s most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle-man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.” – Smedley Butler

The Reagan administration also began dismantling the bulwarks which had held the financial Pandora in her box for fifty years. In the process, the administration of Ronald Reagan left behind the largest deficit in history of that time. A deficit financed by American banks, while the standard of living for the Average American began to decline.

George H. W. Bush was the first US President ever to be a career long CIA operative. When the Cuban revolution nationalized oil wells, they belonged to George H. W. Bush. E. Howard Hunt of Watergate fame was the CIA Miami station chief during the Bay of Pigs. It was strange indeed, that after the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan, on March 30, 1981 just 69 days into the Reagan Presidency, the relationship between the Bush’s and the Reagan’s strangely cooled.

“He reads much;
He is a great observer and he looks
Quite through the deeds of men: he loves no plays,
As thou dost, Antony; he hears no music;
Seldom he smiles, and smiles in such a sort
As if he mock’d himself and scorn’d his spirit
That could be moved to smile at any thing.
Such men as he be never at heart’s ease
Whiles they behold a greater than themselves,
And therefore are they very dangerous.” ~ William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

The first Gulf War to remove Saddam Hussein was ala Diệm, the invasion of Panama and the removal of Manuel Noriega who was also our guy before he wasn’t. Noriega had nationalized Panamanian banks where the CIA had considerable assets. Manuel Noriega had worked for the CIA for thirty years and had worked closely with George H. W. Bush. Noriega insists to this day that it was his refusal to meet Oliver North’s demands to assist the Nicaraguan Contras as the actual basis for the U.S. campaign to oust him. Personally, I think it had more to do with the CIA’s involvement with a white powder which flooded American streets during the 1980’s and made very wealthy people, even wealthier.

William Jefferson Clinton was a “New Democrat” Aka moderate Republican. He was elected on a poor economy and a weak Bush presidency, out of step with the public. Bush’s was an error of style rather than of substance. Future administrations learned it was better to offer meaningless platitudes and empty programs than to just say “We’re working on it.” It was the Bush administration which began negotiating the North American Free Trade Act and the Clinton administration which promoted it and signed it into law and thus made international corporations co- equals with elected governments. It was also during this administration that the Glass – Steagall Act was repealed, opening the financial floodgates and letting Pandora out of her box. In the words of William Jefferson Clinton “the Glass–Steagall law is no longer appropriate.”

“Since 1975, practically all the gains in household income have gone to the top 20% of households. Since 1996, dividends and capital gains have grown faster than wages or any other category of after-tax income.” ~ CIA World Fact Book

US Taxes and other revenues – 15.5 % of GDP or lower tax rates than 191 other nations. Lower than Norway, Denmark, Finland, France, Sweden, Greenland, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Austria, Ecuador, Italy, Croatia, Netherlands, Bolivia, Oman, Portugal, Germany, Iceland, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland and Japan, need I go on?

Yes, but we’re told lower taxes bring us jobs, right?

US Investment (gross fixed) 12.1% of GDP which is 144th in the world behind, China (46.2%) Morocco (30.6%) Iran (27.6%) and even Bangladesh (25.0%)

US budget deficit 8.7 % of GDP (2011 est.) in comparison to the rest of the world 192nd.

US Exports – $1.497 trillion (2011 est.)
US Imports – $2.236 trillion (2011 est.) in comparison to the rest of the world, we’re number one in the world in importing goods.

George W. Bush never won a presidential election in his life. He took office once through court manipulation and once through, out and out subversion of the electoral process. Bush was a drunken buffoon, a dancing monkey designed to keep us amused, while evil little men continued their policy of scorched Earth against American families and workers. Senseless wars and reckless economic policy with plunder as their ends. Stupendous weapons systems bringing only more war and more poverty. If ever a man needed to be loaded into a rocket ship and fired into the sun it is this one, to cleanse the face of the earth of his stain.

Barack Obama is a corporate mouthpiece, a marionette, vapid, vacant and verbose. He is a man on the clock, doing precisely what he is told to do, an overseer, doing his corporate master’s bidding.

Free Trade deals, Citizen’s United, NAFTA, the USA Patriot Act, the TSA, all small bends in the river flowing onward towards industrial barbarism, economic serfdom and ecological disaster. It is in this light we should inspect the wreckage of democracy in Michigan, where the state works for the few and ignores the many, where billionaires buy their way into the State house as black uniformed goons escort the people out. This current carries us down stream and empties us into a black sea of a new dark age.

There is a point, a fundamental understanding; to know from where we’ve come harkens to where we shall go.

“For I have neither wit, nor words, nor worth,
Action, nor utterance, nor the power of speech,
To stir men’s blood: I only speak right on;
I tell you that which you yourselves do know;” ~ William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

A Line Drive in the Box Score
By David Glenn Cox

He’s been called Mitt the twit and Mitt the unfit and he has successfully made John McCain look like a master politician and even the incompetence of Sarah Palin has faded into a distant memory. Romney made a smile and wave trip to Great Britain earlier this year for the Olympics and within 24 hours had created an international incident by questioning British security. Now wait a minute, sure, it’s hard to run for President, but if George W. Bush can do it twice, without wetting his pants or appearing without shoes, then Romney should be able to manage it.

My father was an amateur boxer and for years used to say, “When the champ trains himself, the champ is going to lose.” Could that be the case? Could Romney be incapable of taking advice or of staying on the script? Something is going on here, for the second time in as many tries the Republicans have chosen a total incompetent as their Presidential nominee.

Okay, the Republican’s aren’t necessarily the brightest bulbs of intellectual thought; they are dogmatic and ideological, Bibles, bullets and tax cuts. Still, this should be easy peasey for them and yet it has turned to disaster, a Republican Dukakis. Things were going so bad for the campaign that Romney announced his running mate Paul Ryan, even before the convention. The choice of Paul Ryan as Romney’s running mate was either a stroke of political genius or political suicide.

Bloomberg – “Unfavorable Views of Romney Cloud His Message on Economy”

“Republican Mitt Romney’s negative ratings are preventing him from capitalizing on President Barack Obama’s vulnerabilities in the race for the White House, according to a new poll that gives the incumbent a lead heading into the first of three presidential debates.”

Fifty percent of Americans hold an unfavorable view of Mitt Romney while the other fifty percent just don’t like him at all. So the idea of choosing Paul Ryan as his running mate was? Ryan has all the appeal of a cold plate of spaghetti and his politics are down right offensive to the mainstream electorate. Paul Ryan’s budget plan was viewed in a negative light by close to 80 percent of Americans, Republicans and Democrats alike, so why choose him? Because Romney was so unpopular he had to choose Paul Ryan just to shore up the base in his own party.

The Republican field of candidates was so weak as to be laughable. Let’s be honest here, I don’t agree with Republican politics, but these folks aren’t so stupid as to pick a nit wit to be their candidate, are they? I mean, true, they ran George W. Bush and got a way with it, but let’s remember Bush’s best campaign tactics went on behind the scenes. Romney’s campaign is a fiasco; if the powers behind the throne tried those election stealing stunts with Romney, there would be blood in the streets!

Now, let’s look at this thing from the other side, looking from the Republican perspective is Obama unbeatable? Hardly, Obama has done his best to alienate the left of his own party. He is the first President to ever keep more of his opponent’s campaign promises than his own. John McCain proposed freezing government spending, Obama, enforced it. John McCain proposed more nuclear power plants and Barack Obama funded them. John McCain and Sarah Palin proposed “Drill baby, drill!” Barack Obama proudly boasts of increased drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Barack Obama’s policies are center right. If Obama ran for office against Richard Nixon, Nixon would be the Democrat. Obama never saw a corporation, a free trade deal or a tax cut he didn’t like.

In his jobs bill, Obama proposed allowing workers to continue drawing an unemployment check while working for corporations. The corporations would be allowed to hire workers for 90 days before they would be obligated to pay the workers. At the 90 day point, the corporation could either elect to keep the worker and start paying them or choose new workers from the draw pile and start to 90 day clock all over. This is the sad and lamentable state of Democratic politics.

Something’s way wrong here, in a real world, in a real election, wait, let’s go back, in the year 2000, the Presidential election was stolen by a Supreme Court which intervened illegally in an election. The Supreme Court of the United States stopped a vote count, no differently than some strong man in some banana republic. In 2004, the votes of the people of Ohio were stolen. Not maybe, but demonstratably, it was done crudely and without sophistication but with the blessing of Kenneth Blackwell, the Secretary of State and a complicit media who neatly buried the episode like a Tabby would in a cat box.

In 2008, there are rumblings, that the United States needed a clear winner and an unquestioned vote count. From out of the field of candidates, a bright shining star appears on the horizon. He’s young, handsome with a beautiful wife and adorable children. He’s part Jack Kennedy and part FDR, his politics are left leaning, his delivery polished and confident. Okay, I admit it; I bought into this sap sucking bullshit, but who wouldn’t? After eight years of that drunken little weasel and the Machiavelli Cheney I’d have voted for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. But not this time, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice and we go to that dark place.

So we anoint this Bozo messiah and his only serious competition for the throne is Hillary Clinton. There is bad blood between them and yet suddenly, all is forgiven and Hillary throws her support for Obama. Hillary is named to the post of Secretary of State and for the last four years has acted as almost a co-president. She is almost an independent agent. She is never reported as flying back to Washington for consultations with the President. When Gaddafi’s death was reported, Mrs. Clinton smiled gleefully, while rubbing her hands together saying, “We came, we saw and he died.” This is American foreign policy in the twenty first century, coups, assassinations and war?

This isn’t hope and change; this is all just very, very strange, who gains by this? Why did John McCain go to Florida four years ago to tell a room filled with seniors about the need to cut Social Security? It was almost as if he wanted to lose the election and then choosing Sarah Palin, well for me at least, that sewed it up, he did want to lose the election.

Flash forward to now, after the election, what will be the number one issue before Congress? Budget cuts and sequestration are set to take place automatically in January, immediately after the election. The President’s Bowles – Simpson cat food commission couldn’t even get their report passed out of a Congressional committee, but what did Obama call Bowles –Simpson, he called it a good start. There is an old expression in baseball when someone squibs a ball through the infield for a bloop base hit, “it will look like a line drive in the box score.” So as Mitt the unfit prepares for the worst drubbing since walking Wendell Wilkie, we must ask ourselves, just what the hell is going on here?

Could the Republicans be anymore incompetent in the midst of a banker inspired, second Great Depression as to nominate a smarmy investment banker and a black hearted Neo-liberalist? Could Mrs. O’Leary be elected Mayor of Chicago on a platform of more cows and lanterns, or is the public being manipulated yet again?

How can the public be encouraged to vote for a weak sitting President, with no real record of accomplishment, save for passing more tax cuts than Ronald Reagan. Barack Obama is the most right wing President ever to sit on Pennsylvania Avenue and the only way to get a public energized to vote for him is to do just what is being done. To find a candidate, so awful and so hideous as to scare the Bejesus out of the American public.

So here we sit five weeks before the election and… well, it’s gonna look like a line drive in the box score, isn’t it? Then come January you will be introduced to someone you have never met before, the real Barack Obama and the first words out of his mouth are going to be about his electoral mandate.

“…for the game had never been fair, the dice were loaded. They were swindlers and thieves of pennies and dimes, and they had been trapped and put out of the way by the swindlers and thieves of millions of dollars.” – Upton Sinclair

Fear Not the Apathy

Fear Not the Apathy
By David Glenn Cox

It is interesting to down right frightening to look at the state of American politics in this election year of our lord. We have two, count em, two wholly lackluster Presidential candidates both running in an epic spectacle of absurdities. Our reformer has ignored us and laughed at us and he thinks we don’t know, but we do. I was reading a story about Obama’s drone missile program and the very first reader comment asked, “Police state much?”

There is a vibe, a feeling, reflected in the lens of my own life; you don’t care so much about what you don’t own. The American people get it and respond accordingly, as someone who doesn’t own nor has any stake in the electoral process. Suddenly, Obama has become the Jon Lovitz’ character who can’t say no, “Gay marriage? Yeah, I’m for that, I was always for that! Immigration reform? Sure, we need immigration reform, yes; I’m in favor of that!” The candidate assumes we own neither calendar nor sense enough to smell election year stunting from a president who’s spent the bulk of the last three years keeping most of John McCain’s campaign promises.

On the other side we have Willard (Mitt) Romney, a campaign that should carry as its slogan, “No really, were serious.” A cocktail party on the Fiesta deck of the Titanic. We’ve seen the trade offs to extend Bush tax cuts and jobs bills which was sixty percent tax breaks. What’s more, the American people see this economy and in this economy they see two candidates promising them only more of the same or worse. There are two kinds of people in this economy, those who have lost their jobs and those who haven’t lost their jobs yet.

In Willard (Mitt) Romney we have the personification of all American evil. In an era of economic struggle the Republicans choose to nominate T.J. Money bags, the man off the monopoly box. A campaign dynamic operating under the premise everything is Obama’s fault, we’d rather go back to doing it the way that caused the problem. It’s the vision thing; Romney has no vision because he only sees the America visible from the veranda of the country club. A banker, a bully, a child of the super rich, a draft dodger and elite educrat promising the American people nothing but a smile.

Romney is possibly the worst presidential candidate since Thomas Dewey and Dewey almost won. Dewy also had an uncomfortable look about him and a disconnected manner which could turn people off, so much so, that Dewey had as much to do with losing the Presidency as Truman did in winning it. Dewy was a cold fish as is our Willard, Dewy was an empty suit as is Willard. Only times have changed in America, the same tired old platitudes have a grinding irritation to them now. And after three years of economic hard times with no sign of relief on the horizon puts an even a finer point on it. There’s just nothing here get excited about unless your primary interest in life is Bibles, bullets, babies or bumping uglies.

With Barack Obama we’ve been through the wash cycle once, we know when Obama says create jobs he means more corporate tax cuts. In Ronald Reagan’s first administration they pushed through eight different tax cuts while the Obama administration has pushed for twenty two. Obama is a corporate Fascist, a corporate whore. His reelection for a second term will prompt an immediate sharp right turn and this time when his administration says “Fuck the UAW” they’ll mean it.

It is a National PTSD, a slow moving train wreck four years long. As I was taking out the trash at the apartment complex, I noticed groups of men standing in several areas around the complex. I’ve seen these men before, I’ve seen them in Georgia, I’ve seen them in Minnesota and now I see them in Oregon. There is zero wage growth in this economy in any demographic; it means that even doctors and lawyers aren’t getting raises anymore. It means the system is slowly strangling on itself.

It means most high school kids will never have a part time job while in school. It means twenty percent of our households have at least one unemployed member in them. Millions who will never be able to save for retirement and a generation of unemployed face abject abandonment by their country. It is a dangerous thing to impoverish millions and then to ignore them. It makes the ignored think along the lines of other more radical solutions. It makes them susceptible to following unscrupulous leadership of someone promising easy respite, a road to dark place.

Fear not the apathy, but fear what comes after the apathy. Tens of millions Americans live lives of what used to be, former titles of former employers. Grant writers, supervisor, head cashier and it’s all been snatched away from them. They don’t live in that world anymore, they see a house like the one they used to live in or a car like they one they used to drive and it grates upon them like tight shoes. They look upon their former life and see no improvement in their current one, none, after three years and they get to thinking, maybe the recovery’s not coming.

They would be right, a recovery that’s not coming instead, they will face $1.2 trillion in budget cuts coming in January, known as sequestration; roughly $321 billion would be cut from the “nondefense discretionary” spending. Education, food inspections, cancer research even law enforcement and grants to cities. We face as a nation the most potentially devastating assault on the domestic economy in American history and the American public get, nary a word from either camp.

New York Times – “There has been a great deal of attention to the defense side,” said Senator Patty Murray, Democrat of Washington. “I think a lot of people simply aren’t aware” of the other cuts, she added.”

It would be easy to speculate why most Americans don’t know about the other cuts, as well as why they aren’t being told about them. Could it be because a lot of people have no ownership in this society? They hang on and rather than hoping for a better instead hope only for no worse. The attention which defense has been receiving is only to make sure our juggernaut keeps rolling. While little attention is being paid to the budget cuts affecting the little people you know, you and me? Already in advance of government cuts contractors are planning hundreds of layoffs. Cascading in to thousands after removing $321 billion from an anemic economy can only roll down hill. Millions cut from social programs while the economy falters. What will it matter then, Obama will be our leader for the next four years and will revert to Jon Lovitz, “Fix the economy? With er um, tax cuts! Yeah tax cuts, that’s the ticket! We didn’t want to extend the Bush tax cuts but we made a bipartisan deal and well, the millionaires get a tax cut and the administration got this ah, this, solid gold hockey puck. Yeah that’s it, we really needed a new hockey puck!

“Into the ears of many of you has been dinned the cry that your Government is piling up an unconscionable and back-breaking debt. Let me tell you a simple story: In the spring of 1933, many of the great bankers of the United States flocked to Washington. They were there to get the help of their Government in saving their banks from insolvency. To them I pointed out, in all fairness, the simple fact that you could not make bread without flour, the simple fact that the Government would be compelled to go heavily into debt for a few years to come, in order to save banks and save insurance companies and mortgage companies, and railroads, and to take care of millions of people who were on the verge of starvation. Every one of these gentlemen expressed to me at that time the firm conviction that it was all well worth the price and that they heartily approved.

But I did not stop there. In order to get their further judgment, I asked them what they thought the maximum national debt of the United States Government could rise to without serious danger to the national credit. Their answers — remember this was in the spring of 1933 — were that the country could safely stand a national debt of between fifty-five and seventy billion dollars. I told them that a rise in the national debt to any such figure was, in my judgment, wholly unnecessary, and that even if they, the bankers, were willing I could not and would not go along with them. I told them then that only a moderate increase in the debt for the next few years seemed likely and justified. That objective holds good today; but remember that at that time many bankers and big business men would have been willing to put the country far deeper into debt than I shall ever let it go.” – Franklin Delano Roosevelt 1935

There is your difference, this time the people will get the bill but no bailout, no WPA or CCC. It is Friday night in Portland and as I walked back from the store a young couple in their twenties are fishing for cans and bottles out of the trash cans, I wonder who they plan to vote for?

“We need a Nuremberg to put on trial the economic order that they have imposed on us, that every three years kills more men, women and children by hunger and preventable or curable diseases than the death toll in six years of the Second World War.” – Fidel Castro

By David Glenn Cox

I’ve had something stuck in my craw the last couple of days and just can’t seem to get it out. Something I’ve been trying to say but don’t just know exactly how, only it was forty five degrees yesterday in Minneapolis Minnesota. Sort of like snow drifts in Miami, and it reminded me of my earlier years in Georgia. In the mid nineties our weather was pretty average, then we had a drought year and then another. Droughts happen, I understand that, but the following year we had record rains followed by another year of drought.

When I came here to Minnesota I was astounded by the water usage, my years in Georgia had conditioned me to water restrictions and it was very disquieting to see sprinklers and hoses running. So far this winter, Minneapolis has had two snow falls. There are banners across the streets advertising an upcoming cross country ski festival next month only, there isn’t any snow, none.

Last year at this time there was four feet of snow on the ground, a little more than normal perhaps, but in no ways unusual. This year for the entire winter less than six inches of snow, what ever happened to tornado season? We have hurricanes in New England and droughts in Texas, isn’t this the forecasted climate change which we were all warned about? What does your government say? The say nothing, they say nothing about climate change and talk instead about our energy needs.

There was a story on Yahoo news which was basking in the glories of the great economic numbers for December, only, it was bullshit. For all of 2011, there were 1,570,000 new jobs created. For all of 2011, 2,040,000 new workers joined the economy and yet, the unemployment rate remarkably fell. Of course it did, you must have a job and lose it before you can be counted as unemployed.

Now remember, Yahoo is the bottom of the barrel for news and for reader comments. The comments are partisan and usually filled with calling Obama childish names, the partisan Democratic comments called those who cried bullshit to the Yahoo news story, Fox news viewers or haters and unpatriotic. Their strikingly similar tone and commentary would make me bet money that this was a boiler room operation, AKA, spin control. The tone of Democratic leaning comments are no different from “You’re either with us or with the terrorists.”

The Republicans blamed Obama, the Democrats blamed the Republicans, but who is about the business of fixing the economy for working Americans? Obama’s domestic policy has been pure unadulterated Hooverism.

“Economic depression cannot be cured by legislative action or executive pronouncement. Economic wounds must be healed by the action of the cells of the economic body – the producers and consumers themselves” – Herbert Hoover

Obama is further to the right politically than Ronald Reagan, Obama has proposed more tax cuts than Ronald Reagan and more tax cuts than Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and John Kennedy combined. Obama reauthorized the Bush tax cuts and supported the Bush wars and will support the coming needless war with Iran. Obama is a continuation of the Bush catastrophe. There was coup d’état in the United States in the year 2000 and Barack Obama was brought to you by same people who placed Bush in office.

Ad valorem taxes once accounted for 40 percent of all Federal revenues, ad valorum taxes are also know as tariffs on imported goods. We the American people were once promised that by eliminating those taxes, which were paid by importers that it would create jobs and expand our economy. Who told us that would happen? George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Al Gore and despite the massive dislocation which this policy has created in our economy, which politicians in Washington are in favor of changing it?

Cricket sounds, it is a complete non starter, not one Democrat and not one Republican will address the single greatest domestic threat to the United States in our history. Instead, they play their little parsimonious games which have little or nothing to do with the facts on the ground. In 2010, revenues from ad valorem taxes accounted for just 1.2 percent of the Federal budget. Only 30 percent of goods brought into this country even qualify for tariffs of any kind.

Our economy is sick, it is anemic. Wages are down 1 percent this year and inflation was 3.4 percent for 2011. The new jobs aren’t paying as much as the old jobs, so where is the road home? The sad truth is that when you run a monthly trade deficit of thirty to forty billion dollars there is no way home. The poor and unemployed do not earn enough to mend the budget deficit and the rich have the political power to make certain that they will never be forced to pay their share.

“Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself. Progress in our world will be progress toward more pain.”- George Orwell

There are no more Liberals and there are no more Conservatives, there are no more Republicans and no more Democrats. Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson votes with the Republicans when it suits the stage managers. Anthony Weiner before his resignation took to the house floor and cried, pleading, fighting for healthcare benefits for 9-11 first responders. Only, this was just six weeks after Obama’s comprehensive health care reform package.

Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leadership added taxes on overseas corporations to the bill guaranteeing that Republicans would vote against the package. Then just to be certain, Pelosi by a procedural move required a two thirds majority for passage. Remember now, this legislation was supposed to help sick people, instead sick people inside the government decided to use the suffering of others for their own political benefit.

For four years the banks have been supplied with free money courtesy of the Federal Reserve. Today these banks can borrow one million dollars with an interest rate of 0.10 or one tenth of one percent or one million dollars delivered up for $1,000. The American tax payer will be billed $30,000 for each million which the Fed’s free money policy dispenses. These banks have pumped this money into Wall Street; they’ve reaped huge profits and called it a day.

Meanwhile, massive investment in Asia guarantees our depression will continue. Returns on money loaned in Europe and North America net the bankers three percent. The same money invested in Asia will net the bankers nine percent; the Federal Reserve is floating the currency to feed the bubble in Asia. This is the reason for the sudden and announced need for austerity. The banks must wring out the sponge which is losing forty billion dollars a month.

Out here in the streets, it is perhaps easier to see, I see the unemployed all around me. I see these desperate and hungry people struggling to make each day. Like me, they are looking for something and not finding it. I have found no difference in the situation north or south, the stories the poor tell me are all the same.

The media lies, they don’t lean left or right but lean corporate. They are stage managing a presidential election contest which is nothing more than a sham. Mitt Romney the investment banker and arbitrage king versus the candidate from Goldman Sachs. Obama will be recrowned in November there is no doubt about that. I had predicted last year that if the campaign was close Sarah Palin would split the Republican ticket and guarantee Obama’s reelection; instead Ron Paul is now talking about a third party run.

I don’t support Ron Paul, but I support his supporters because they realize that the two party system is a fraud and they are looking for someone to say the things they would like to hear. I don’t support Ron Paul, but I sure do wish someone would come along and take side of the people.

Is Ron Paul a racist? The media says he is, is he homophobic? The media says he is and anti-Semitic as well! Of course, this is the same media who told us George W. Bush had served honorably in the military and questioned John Kerry’s war record in Vietnam. The same media who told us Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and that Osama Bin Laden orchestrated 9-11 from a cave in Afghanistan.

It was John Kerry you might remember who conceded a Presidential election before all the votes were counted. Similar to news reports of building seven having collapsed before building seven actually collapsed. Similar to news stories of economic recovery as the economy actually collapses.

“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from all the oligarchies of the past, in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just round the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.” – George Orwell

Where There Actually Two Ronald Reagan’s?

Where There Actually Two Ronald Reagan’s?
By David Glenn Cox

For the past couple of days I have received several rather odd and unsolicited E-mails from an individual who identifies him or herself as Missile Toe. Missile Toe has praised my writing and my honesty and then explained that he or she had a story to tell me. My first reaction to this, was the realization that every sucker gambit first begins with faint praise, you’re so smart or you’re so handsome that it must be you I share the riches of the Nigerian treasury with.

Anyway, the story was told to me like this; Missile Toe is an individual who is now dying of cancer somewhere in Southern California. He or she will not tell me their gender out of fear of what might befall their families if his or her actual identity were ever to become known to the public. In the early 1950’s, Missile Toe had worked on the Warner Brother’s movie studio lot in an undisclosed position. He or she then went on to work in a similar position for General Electric’s True Theater starring none other than the future President, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Missile Toe’s boss was the liaison between the studio executives and G.E’s corporate headquarters. The boss told Missile Toe that his job in Hollywood was to protect Reagan from any sort of scandal because in his words, “The boys upstairs have big plans for that man.” Missile Toe explained that he didn’t put much credence into what his boss had told him about Reagan until some strange events began to occur.

During the 1940’s when Reagan was making his war films there had been an actor in Hollywood who worked as Reagan’s stunt double. This actor was named David Michael Breedlove and that Breedlove’s physical similarity to Reagan was uncanny, so much so, that Breedlove would also double for Reagan off screen at charity events.

One day Missile Toe was reporting to his or her boss about production difficulties when a man appearing to be Ronald Reagan entered the room. He looked at Missile Toe and asked, “You remember me, don’t you?”

Missile Toe responded, “Sure, you’re Ronald Reagan,” when he said this the two men in the room burst into laughter. Missile Toe then asked, “David?”

To which Reagan answered, “No, you got it right the first time, I’m Ronald Reagan.” At this point both men broke into laughter once again and Reagan asked, “Whose David?”

Missile Toe answered, “You know perfectly well who David is, he was your stunt double for years.”

Reagan answered, “Never heard of him.”

Missile Toe just assumed that Reagan or Breedlove was putting him on, but several weeks later Missile Toe knew from the shooting schedule that Reagan was due to be out of town in Pennsylvania making a speech for GE when he bumped into Reagan outside of his bosses office.

Missile Toe then asked his boss, “What’s Reagan doing here? I thought he was out of town making a speech?”

His boss merely put his fingers to his lips and said, “Shhh!”

Missile Toe explained that, he or she took it as an inside joke, because there were lots of secrets in Hollywood, at the time, which weren’t spoken about in the light of day. These coincidences were soon forgotten and faded from memory.

As the production ended for the season, Missile Toe was required to collate and corroborate all of the invoices from the production and as Missile Toe worked late one night he or she came across an invoice which could not be explained. It was a health insurance claim in the amount of $ 9,000. That was the price of five new cars in the 1950’s but Missile Toe explained, that what stunned him or her was not so much the dollar amount of the invoice, but the name which was listed on the invoice as, you guessed it, David M. Breedlove. The invoice further stated that it was an insurance claim for the cost to perform facial reconstructive surgery and Missile Toe already knew, all too well, that Breedlove had never been cast in any of the studios recent productions.

Missile Toe presented the invoice to the liaison from GE. The liaison took a look at the insurance claim then folded it in half and placed it in his desk drawer. Missile Toe asked, “What’s this all about, Breedlove has never worked here?”

The boss explained, “That’s the companies business, not yours, if you value your job and your future here you’ll forget you ever saw it.”

Missile Toe also maintains that Reagan had a substance and alcohol problem that one day during shooting he overheard the director say, “He’s drunk and fucked up on pills again, call you know who.” Missile Toe felt certain that the call was about to be made to Reagan’s bosses at GE, but less than thirty minutes later, there was Reagan in costume and sober as a judge.

Prior to these revelations Missile Toe had always held Reagan in high regard because he or she had thought of him as a man with infinite patience. “With my own eyes I had witnessed the stormy relationship between Reagan and his wife Nancy. Mrs. Reagan would charge onto the lot screaming obscenities at Reagan and some of their fights in the studio trailers were legendary. One day after such an argument Regan emerged from the trailer, and told the staff, “Don’t bother trying to clean it up, just haul it off and burn it.

Regan’s shirt was torn and his face was obviously swollen and there were red scratches on his neck. Mrs. Reagan left the back lot that day by private ambulance for a trip; it was later explained, to a sanitarium in Palm Springs. I thought that apparently, the worst had happened, he had snapped, because I saw Reagan resting his hand in a bucket of ice, not ten minutes after this, his face swollen with scratches on his neck. Yet when the Dailies were run, there was Reagan uninjured. It became obvious to me that there were two Ronald Reagan’s prowling the back lot.

I knew that Reagan had two trailers on the lot and I had assumed that the second one was his sanctuary, a place for him to just disappear or perhaps entertain young starlets or whatever. This certainty that there were two Reagan’s compelled me to create a ruse, with my arm filled with envelopes I knocked on the door of trailer nine, the one which I had suspected was Reagan’s hideaway at a time when I knew Reagan was supposed to be on the set. A voice similar to Reagan’s asked, “Yes what is it?”

“I’ve got your mail, I answered,

“I can’t come out right now, I’m not decent.”

“Just unlock the door and I’ll slip inside,” but the voice answered, “I can’t do that, go away!”

This was the way things were in Hollywood back in the old days, stars had public and private lives and they were kept well separated. When Reagan ran for Governor of California I laughed after the media had reported on Reagan’s grueling campaign schedule. Even after Reagan was elected Governor it had all just been funny to me, so what, if the Governor has a body double, how nice that would be if we all could have one. I moved on with my career and raised my family and I knew better than to make any waves about these things which I had witnessed and knew to be true.

It was during the summer of 1977, when there was this party in Hollywood. It was one of those types of Hollywood parties which the press doesn’t report about, but at this particular party there was a shooting. Eye witnesses relayed the story to me a week or so afterwards, but I had already heard something about it in the wind from a blood relative. This blood relative of mine (now deceased) had worked in the Los Angeles county coroners office and told me, “You know, it was the damnedest thing, we had a body come in the other day that looked just like Ronald Reagan and what made it really weird was this guy had died of a gun shot wound and there was no police report.

Within two hours a funeral home came and picked up the body, no autopsy, no investigation, no nothing.”

I asked, already suspecting the answer, “Was his name Breedlove?”

“Yeah, I think it was, how did you know?”

I played it off as a Hollywood inside secret, but the real secret I kept hidden away.

The rumors circulated all around town with differing variables, Nancy was drunk and had taken a shot at him but had missed. Or she had taken a shot at him and had just nicked him or even that he was seriously wounded but had made a full recovery in a distant sanitarium under an assumed name. I was content to keep my mouth shut, because to open it would have been to invite disaster and had that man Ronald Reagan or David Breedlove never been elected President, I would have never said another word about it, even now.

My time on this Earth is now measured in weeks, if not days, I must tell what I know to be true before I leave here. I must, I have been a fan of your writing for quite some time and you have always seemed to tell the truth even when it has been unflattering towards yourself. So this is my departing gift to you, and maybe, it will help you or maybe it will become a millstone around your neck. I have faith that you will tell this story either way and either way, I have no one else to whom I can tell it too.” – Missile Toe

The E-mails I received were mirrored; when I tried to reply to them they simply bounced back. I have no evidence to the veracity of them. I must fall back instead on to the motivation for these messages, perhaps they are all untrue fabrications and perhaps, I am being made a fool of. I have been made a fool of before, I’ve been married before, you know. If these things are untrue then I am being made the butt of a joke, but if they are true, then we are all being made fools of. Then not only did a bad actor become the President of these United States, but a bad actor dead three years became the President, replaced by his stunt double. It now appears quite possible that the age of Presidential puppetry began twenty years sooner than we had imagined. It creates a Pandora’s Box which asks and answers a myriad of questions.

The Fascist Moses

The Fascist Moses
By David Glenn Cox

Let’s kick Richard Nixon, its great fun; we all did it at parties back in the 1970s. But that was the previous generation and this generation has missed out on the fun, like Woodstock. Unbeknownst to this current generation there would have been hundreds of fistfights and stabbings at Woodstock had it not been for three little words, “f**k Richard Nixon!”

All one had to do was simply step between the adversaries and say, “Come on now, guys, hey, look. f**k Richard Nixon!” Instantly the opponents would separate and begin to smile and agree, “Yeah, you’re right, man. f**k Richard Nixon!” The potential warriors would depart as buddies and would exchange bong hits until their eyeballs melted in their sockets and they would forget all about their conflicts.

That was in the twilight’s last gleaming of American democracy, when a President could still be removed from office for malfeasance. Let me rephrase that, Richard Nixon could be removed from office for malfeasance; it’s doubtful whether anyone else could be. I know all about George W. Bush and Bush was a drunken, coke-snorting, mean-spirited, frat boy. There is no doubt in my mind that he is the truest definition of a sociopath, but Nixon was just plain crazy.

Nixon had paranoid delusions that people were out to get him and so he responded with bile, tirades, enemy lists and dirty tricks. Because of his paranoid delusions he alienated everyone around him until even members of his own party would walk all the way across the street just to piss on Richard Nixon. Eventually these self-fulfilling, paranoid delusions gave to Richard Nixon a kind of an Eeyore quality.

Nixon’s most trusted advisor was Henry Kissinger and Nixon only trusted him while he was in the room. Kissinger’s first government job was as a translator for the head of the CIA, Allen Dulles. Kissinger was his protégée and it was Dulles who helped to plan the Bay of Pigs invasion and Dulles who told Kennedy that he needed to launch an unprovoked, full-scale military attack on Cuba. Kennedy fired Dulles and his Deputy Director Charles Cabell, whose brother Earl Cabell changed the presidential motorcade route in Dallas.

Nice folks. It was Dulles who proposed a plan to fake an aircraft hijacking and to blame it on Cuba. This is where this cast of unknowns began their rise into the halls of corporate fascism. George Bush, E. Howard Hunt, Porter Goss were all operatives under Dulles, and after Dulles was fired their futures were in question. But when Richard Nixon chose Henry Kissinger as Secretary of State their meal tickets became safe and secure. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, CIA operative General Richard Secord was moving heroin on military aircraft in Vietnam and depositing the profits in banks in Australia. Then Secord began to sell pilfered US military hardware to friend and foe alike, and when this was discovered Secord was promoted!

Nixon ran for the presidency with the promise of a secret plan to end the Vietnam War. His secret plan, as it turned out, was this: get Richard Nixon elected President and then fight the North Vietnamese until they give up. Nixon authorized the secret bombings of neutral countries, as well as illegal invasions. Cambodia’s President Norodom Sihanouk was playing both sides so the CIA had him overthrown. Sihanouk had signed a secret pact with China in 1965 but was playing footsie with the CIA, so when the CIA disposed of him, China said, “Good riddance!”

Kennedy wouldn’t expand the Vietnam War, and well, he had an accident. So when Richard Nixon ended the Vietnam War without a victory he, well, he had an accident, too. After invading and bombing civilian areas in neutral countries and bombing civilian and humanitarian targets in North Vietnam, Nixon was removed from office because of a bungled burglary and financial campaign irregularities, and Americans with a straight face say the Catholic Church is in denial!

With Spiro Agnew’s departure due to racketeering conviction two chief executives of the country are removed from office within ten months and no one suspects anything is amiss. No one suspects levers behind the throne but Gerald Ford is elected President by one vote, Richard Nixon’s vote. Ford’s lone claim to fame was to pardon Richard Nixon to end the long national nightmare of Watergate. Nightmare is a good synonym for the coup d’etat that happened while America slept. Two attempts were made on Ford’s life in little more than two years and who was the director of the CIA then? Anyone? Why, it was good old George H. W. Bush.

The first Witch says, “When shall we three meet again, In thunder, lightning, or in rain?”

The second Witch, “When the hurlyburly’s done, When the battle’s lost and won.”

The third Witch says, “That will be ere the set of sun.”

The first Witch, “Where the place?”

The second Witch, “Upon the heath.”

The third Witch, “There to meet with Macbeth.”

All, “Fair is foul, and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air.”

Gerald Ford was lampooned in the press as a buffoon and even though he was a buffoon he never shot his friend in the face on a drunken hunting excursion or played golf with a Supreme Court Judge who might have to hear cases involving his administration. So either you’re in or you’re out. James Earl Carter was elected with on strong anti-Washington sentiment and Washington responded with a strong Anti-Carter sentiment. For four years Carter and his staff complained of phone calls not being returned and policies not being carried out. Riots and demonstrations were happening in Tehran; did anyone think of reducing the embassy staff or closing the embassy? That’s the job the CIA is supposed to do, and when the Iranians took Americans hostage, who took the fall?

When the military rescue mission failed, who took the fall?

The hostages were released twenty minutes after the swearing in of Ronald Reagan, but the story goes that no deals were struck. Sure, I believe. Somehow the Reagan camp came into possession of Carter’s national security briefings and even Carter’s debate notes. Richard Allen was Reagan’s foreign policy chief during the campaign and he said that he was told to report to Theodore Shackley. Shackley had been fired from the CIA by the Carter administration and it was Theodore Shackley who was the station chief in Miami during the Bay of Pigs invasion and the senior agent was E. Howard Hunt.

So who did the Carter administration suspect had been leaking the classified documents? Two national security officials named Donald Gregg and Robert Gates. That’s somewhat illuminating considering Gates was the lone holdover from the Bush administration. Shackley reported to Bush Senior on the campaign and Gregg reported directly to Shackley.

So Reagan gets elected and hell comes to breakfast: tax cuts for the rich, education cuts for the poor. The giveaways of national resources to coal and timber interests. Drug smuggling in South America, the looting of the savings and loans. For the CIA it was glory days until something went horribly wrong just sixty-nine days into Reagan’s first term. Another of America’s oh so famous lone nuts with a gun shot Reagan as he walked out the front door of the hotel where he was speaking.

I’ll repeat that, the President of the United States walked out the front door of the hotel. Does that sound like good security policy to you? Reagan and aide James Brady were hit with bullets and the hospital was immediately notified, but Reagan’s limo showed up at the hospital almost fifteen minutes after Brady’s and no stretcher was waiting. The excuse given was that the driver, a highly-trained ten year veteran of the Washington Secret Service, got lost in his own hometown. If you had told me that he got lost in Omaha, maybe I’d believe it. If you pulled a stunt like that in Stalin’s Russia, you and your family would be chopping wood in Siberia for generations to come.

During his short tenure as Secretary of State, Al Haig had complained that someone within the administration had been trying to undermine him in the eyes of the President. After hearing that the President had been shot it was Haig’s staff who notified Vice President Bush who was away giving a speech in Fort Worth. It was Haig who convened the cabinet for a status report and began an investigation into the shooter or shooters and then made his famous “I am in charge” statement, which meant that he was in charge of the White House until Bush returned. He later said that Bush had agreed to this over the phone.

When Bush returned to the White House he cancelled the investigation into the shooter or shooters and Haig was then vilified in the press. Al Haig had been hired by Henry Kissinger to serve in the Nixon administration in 1969. Secretary of state George Schultz was also a Nixon/Kissinger protégée as were Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and Paul Bremer. Nixon begat Reagan, Reagan begat Bush, Bush begat son of Bush.

In the first one hundred and seventy-four years of American history there were three assassination attempts on chief executives and candidates, with only two being successful. Since 1963 there have been six assassinations or attempts: John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Gerald Ford (twice), George Wallace and Ronald Reagan. Interestingly when Wallace ran in 1968 he ran as a Democrat and was seen as taking votes away from Democrats. When he ran again in 1972 he ran as an independent and was expected to take votes from Republicans and was shot by yet another lone nut with a gun.

In one hundred and seventy-four years only one chief executive was ever impeached. Since 1968 one President was impeached, one President stepped down to keep from being impeached and one Vice President resigned upon conviction for racketeering.

It is tied and twisted like a Gordian Knot; the fiascos and failures of a generation of political leadership can all be tied to the tail of one delusional paranoid, but the names and numbers speak for themselves. It is impossible to say that it all happened because of Richard Nixon, but Nixon hired Kissinger and in doing so made himself the Fascist Moses.

We have wandered in the political desert for forty years and we cannot seem to find our way home. Maybe defense secretary Robert Gates knows the way; He was a Kissinger protégée. Maybe Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner knows; he worked for Kissinger, too. Maybe CIA Director Panetta knows. He, too, worked in the Nixon administration. Funny, isn’t it? Defense, Treasury and CIA.

The Flowers of Madness

The Flowers of Madness
By David Glenn Cox

It is a time of bad Ju ju, that moment when nausea sets in. When it’s no longer a question of if, but of when. Sweet mother of Jesus the fools in Washington have done it. Not only have they done it but they’re proud of it, Eric Cantor brags of his victory in his pecker bumping contest with the President while John Boehner claims that he got ninety eight percent of everything he asked for in the debt negotiations.

I wonder if this is how the average American felt in 1860 or 1931? The rest of the story is inevitable and predictable and shameful. This is no less than our own raid on Harper’s Ferry and from here there is no turning back. I had begun to write a story filled with inglorious facts and figures about the economy but I canned it. It told a story alright, but it didn’t say nothing really, it was just facts and figures and this is a story must be told from the gut.

There is no recovery, get that through your head, the recession has never ended. Two hundred billion dollars spent each year on unemployment insurance and food stamps softens the blow. Then add in trillions of free money funneled into the banks by the Federal Reserve. Now throw in obscene amounts of money spent on the military and top it off with tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy to keep the Wall Street Ponzi scheme going. Take it all away and there is no recovery, there is no recession, there will be no double dip because it is all the same dip from the same depression.

For the year 2010 for every ten jobs created nine other Americans lost their jobs. From an official unemployment high of 14.2 million Americans we have cascaded after almost two years down to 14.1 million unemployed. The U-6 unemployment rates is 16.4 percent down from 16.7 but even that figure is inaccurate. The actual unemployment rate in America is over 20 percent. That’s before, before the politicians start taking an ax to the budget, and after, it going to be hell’s a popping.

First up on the hit list is Federal unemployment compensation, seems we just don’t have enough homeless in this country. Next will be food stamps, you see, these are the blooms of the flowers of madness. They just don’t get it up there in Washington. To them this all some ideological game to be won or lost, so Eric Cantor puts his thumbs under his suspenders and Boehner does a peacock strut. And you ask yourself, are they crazy, or insane? To brag of their own infamy, while the President says, “now we can get down to job creation.” It’s a mad house, an asylum and soon to be bedlam.

It has made me reflect quite a bit for I’m a child of history. I was a boy in Dallas in 1963 and we were going to Dealy Plaza but the rain turned us around. I was in Montgomery in 1965 and witnessed the march from Selma to Montgomery and I was in Chicago in 1968 and waited up with my parents until my sister arrived home late from the police riot. I witnessed these things but was too small to do anything more. I was living in Atlanta in 2000, I watched the election returns, I had a car and I had money and I had time off coming to me.

I could have gone down to Tallahassee, I knew the way and I had the ability but I did not have the courage. The courage to go to my boss and tell him why I wanted the time off and why it had to be that week and not two or three weeks later. My wife understood my anger but she too was complacent, like me, only more so. “What good will it do?” she advised, “It won’t change anything.” I could have gone but I didn’t, instead I downloaded and read the Supreme Courts ruling in the case of Bush vs. Gore with trembling hands and trepidation.

I could see with my own eyes a court sanctioned Coup D’etat and yet I did nothing! My ex-wife was probably correct but what if 500,000 has shown up in Tallahassee would the court have so brazenly said, “just this once.” We will never know because no such large angry numbers of the population showed up.

We all have our own time lines but the 2000 election was the seminal moment for me. I knew instinctively when Bush almost immediately started passing out tax refund checks they he was trying to salve over the wound and buy our loyalty. It all looked so planned an so orchestrated and when the planes hit the towers and the media had photographs of the suspected terrorists before the flames were out my mind flashed back to “The suspect’s name is Lee Harvey Oswald.”

I could feel the bile rise up in the back of my throat and I felt a pang of guilt because I stood by and did nothing. I’ve watched all of this madness with it’s shock and awe and its color coded threat levels. I’ve watched the videos of the dead burnt bodies of children and innocents, I’ve read the stories of rampant corruption and I even read a story the other day put out by the Cato institute warning of the high cost of food stamps and advocating for severe cutbacks because they believe that mothers with working children shouldn’t receive food assistance from the government.

This is the world they plan on building, a brutal Dickensian police state. This is why Osama Bin Laden was declared dead and why his body disposed with. He was no longer needed and had outlived his usefulness and so his soap opera was cancelled. They’ve found a new enemy in us and they have started to construct it the other night with the debt vote.

“The White House has announced its new counterterrorism plan. This plan is different from past efforts: It aims to prevent people from becoming radicalized. The unclassified report has been more than a year in the making, and it is being billed as the first comprehensive strategy to counter violent extremism. The idea is to rely more on local communities, since they are the most likely to see the first signs of homegrown terrorism.” (NPR)

The plan is to be aimed at local communities working with school teachers to identify those youths most likely to become radicalized. It is exactly what it sounds like it is, a surveillance program aimed at children. Maybe they shall call it some cleaver euphemism but for now how about “CROTES” children ratting on their elders and siblings, and they need this program and you know why they need it, because of what is coming down the pipe. When twenty percent unemployment turns to thirty or forty percent do you think it will be a nice day to go to the park?

When the citizens of Wisconsin occupied the capital in Madison I could have gone, I didn’t really have any money but I was only two hundred and fifty miles away and probably could have thumbed a lift. It would have been worth my time and effort but instead I went to the rally in Saint Paul. It was a cold blustery day but the people were out in force and there was a great deal of unity. The crowd was enthusiastic as the union leaders spoke then a member of the Minnesota House delegation began to speak. He was telling us we had to organize because there was once a community organizer in Chicago who became a state senator and then a US Senator and then the President of the United States.

I’d heard enough and so I shouted, “and then what did he do?” These people were still under the illusion that Barack Obama and the Democratic Party had something to offer them. I think they know better now, I know that I do. I no longer trust this government; I see it as being operated by two wings of one corporate party. I see it funneling billions of dollars to corrupt regimes and threatening violence towards others who have done nothing to us. I have seen it create and continue wars for over a decade, Eisenhower conquered Western Europe and we can’t subdue Kanduhar in a decade? We are at this present time in hostilities with six, count em, six nations.

I have watched the laws of this country eroded and subverted until complaining about being searched at the airport has become a criminal offense. I have watched as whole industries have been boxed up and shipped overseas. The machines to be operated by peasants earning slave wages for the People’s Red Army and then with a straight face being told that it will be good for the economy in the long run. Well Bull Shit!

Barack Obama offered us hope and change, he promised no more lobbyists in the White House and so, true to his word he hired the lobbyist’s bosses to work in the White House. He defended bank bonuses; he defended GM against the unions and even helped GM to shift over three billion dollars in GM liabilities to government liabilities. He opened the Gulf of Mexico to oil drilling and when BP’s oil well blew out creating the largest oil spill in US history he defended BP. Within six months and some paperwork changes he then opened the Gulf up to oil drilling yet again. He’s cut more taxes for business than even Ronald Reagan and he’s proposed cutting lease rates on federal land to assist the oil companies even more.

But for the likes of you and me? Prosperity is just around the corner, and the economy won’t recover all at once. That’s why tens of thousands of school teachers and support staff are losing their jobs all over this nation. Obama will fight for oil companies but he won’t fight for school kids or workers. The choices to be offered up to the American people in the coming Presidential election are beyond pathetic. Where are our voices in Washington, who represents us?

I’m tired of this and I’m ready to try and do something about it. Maybe it won’t work, maybe it will all be pointless, but I’m going to do it just the same. I’m going to Washington D.C. in October, and I’ll eat what I can and sleep where I have to. I have very little money and no transportation save for my thumb, but God Damnit, I’m going just the same, its better to be crushed than ignored, at least I’ll make the bastards work up a sweat.

Little Rambo

Three cheers for Barack Obama he got Osama Bin Laden and now perhaps, he can direct his attention towards the collapse of the American economy. The value of an American home dropped an average of 8.2 percent in the last twelve months, 28 percent of homeowners are underwater on their mortgages and new home sales are near record lows. Those are astounding figures especially when the decline in value is added to the last three years of falling prices. Home prices aren’t just falling they’re imploding, a collapse unrivaled in American history.

This is directly due to the federal government’s abdication of its duties to the people. Rather than to do what was necessary to salvage the Real Estate market and the American people. The Obama administration, Congress and the Federal Reserve have put all of their faith and our money into saving Wall Street rather than Main Street. Zero to .25 percent interest rates have reinflated the Wall Street bubble yet employment numbers are tepid and stagnate. Wages are falling and consumer confidence is low and credit hard to obtain.

Each year since 2008 we’ve been told, this year will be the peak of home foreclosures crisis and yet the following year we are told the same again. The Obama administration offered first time home buyers a $6,000 tax credit to purchase a home but with an 8.2 percent drop in home prices those purchasers are already behind the eight ball. Twelve billion dollars, tax dollars down the drain in a governmental bait and switch, a corporate give away wrapped up in gift paper of public assistance.

New car sales are still below the numbers of those being crushed each year and yet somehow with a straight face the Obama administration speaks of recovery. April is the month when spring hiring begins in earnest. Last year the administration called this green shoots when all that it was, was springtime. The Bureau of Labor statistics announced new 244,000 jobs this month while down the street from me the local ice cream shop opened for the season. The grass has begun to grow and swimming pools are preparing to open for summer. Yet despite all of these new jobs the administration has created the unemployment number went up!

Volatility is returning to the markets, four dollar a gallon gasoline will strangle any hope of recovery like a baby in a cradle. When I bought my first car for five hundred dollars gasoline was at .46 cents a gallon and the minimum wage was $3.00 per hour. It meant that I could buy six gallons of gasoline for an hour of labor. Today that would be less than two gallons while the number of Americans working for minimum wage has risen by forty percent.

The U-6 unemployment number for April is 15.5 percent a scant drop of one percent year over year and only 1.5 percent from the a record high of 17 percent. Three hundred thousand new jobs created in a calendar year while three million more Americans are counted as “Not in the labor force.” Wage growth for those fortunate enough to have jobs is statistically insignificant. Wages are rising by pennies an hour while inflation is discounted and ignored. A two pound can of coffee is now a pound and a half and a half gallon of ice cream is now one and a half quarts.

These converging forces of high unemployment, rising inflation coupled with zero wage growth means nothing less than the strangulation of the economy. The home bubble is gone what is now eroding is the meat of the economic body. What has Mr. Obama suggested to cure this illness? What has Congress suggested to cure this illness? Nothing! They have ignored this economic withering and growing lethal danger to the economy. The Federal Reserve has acted under Ben Bernanke’s watchful eye; the Fed under the title of quantitative easing has inflated the money supply yet again.

During hurricane Katrina George W. Bush played air guitar while an American city drown. Bush then flew overhead in Air Force One and stared blankly out the window at the catastrophe and was rightfully pilloried for his callousness. Yet Barack Obama might as well fly over us in the space shuttle his coolness not to be confused with aloofness.

An economic catastrophe equal to the Great Depression and the administration’s economic policy is to allow the Federal Reserve to do what ever it wishes to do. Obama stands on the deck of an imaginary aircraft carrier and declares victory and goes home. Never has an American President done less to aid the struggling citizenry since perhaps Herbert Hoover. The politics of Ronald Reagan combined with the cluelessness of Herbert Hoover and now with the new and improved smirk of little Rambo.

President Obama recently went to the Texas border region to preach again for his neo liberal immigration reform. The cluelesness of the captain of the Titanic shouting, “Bingo in the Grand Salon everyone! Bingo!”

These politicians are not stupid people, they are well aware of what is going on around them and so we must ask ourselves, either, the federal government is lost in its own intellectualism and fishbowlism and are unable to form a consensus? Or they know exactly what is going on and have decided to save themselves and the top ten percent by keeping the public occupied with wars and birth certificates until they fill all of the available lifeboats. Or even a darker and sinister version where they intend to sink the economy Weimar Republic style.

Inflating the economy while shrinking wages, Social Security then becomes irrelevant without a politician ever laying a finger on it. Retiree’s will still get a check each month with the caveat of “don’t spend it all in one place.” Keep in mind that the investor class no longer needs America. They have built for themselves a new one in continental Asia. This new one is growing at 10 percent per year and is everything that the investor class could have ever dreamed of, coal fired electrical plants with plans for more nuclear plants. No civil or worker rights to deal with, no unions or activists or environmental controls. A neo liberal paradise of high profits and low taxes of masters and slaves.

Senator Charles Schumer recently sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security head Janet Napolitano asking for tighter security on Amtrak trains. Schumer asked not only for more money but for creation of a no ride list! Suddenly Democrats are all in favor of the war on terror. The irony, thousands of uninspected shipping containers arriving on our shores each week. A President that preaches open borders with a failed narco state while a member of his own party wants to control who will be allowed to ride America’s trains.

A government that treats its citizens as a commodity to be controlled and relegated, legislated against and when it suits their purposes or simply ignored.

That leaves us with our options as being what? A single neo liberal party state where Democrats support tax cuts for the rich, wars for aggrandizement with a burgeoning state Gestapo organ and a Republican Party that answers, “That, but even more so! God, guns and abortion control and getting government off our backs by cutting even more taxes.”

American politics run on money, fringe candidates are ignored and can receive little backing. The media will ignore these candidates as not having any standing while national publications will praise characters such as Michele Bachmann to the stars as a credible candidate. When we look forward we can only see one footstep at a time yet when we look back over our shoulder the picture which emerges is dark, ominous and frightening.

The 2000 selection, 9-11, the Patriot act, the TSA followed by the stealth Obama and a federal government which ignores the well being of the general populace while supporting tax cuts for the rich. Franklin Roosevelt once said, “When there is no vision the people perish” the question that we face today is, what if they have a vision but their vision doesn’t include us?

What is the value of a government that ignores the well being of its people? Can such a thing as that be called a Democracy? Cuts to social programs and education on the one hand with insane senseless military spending on the other. Opposing invisible boogey men that only make themselves visible when we invade their country? A Republican Party that declares open war on the public and public employees and a Democratic President who is always glad to meet those Republicans halfway as a starting point in negotiations.

The answer to this situation is the only answer possible. When the bully steals your lunch all of your pleading for its return only amuses the bully. You could go around the school yard and collect signatures on a petition and then maybe when the bully sees the size of your petition he will give you your lunch back. It is only when the bully fears for his own future that the bully will decide to give you your lunch back.

“There’s a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can’t take part. You can’t even passively take part. And you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop. And you’ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you’re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all.”
(Mario Savio)

After the success of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro held public tribunals where the enemies of the people where put on public trial. They were required not only to give back your lunch but they were made to apologize for taking it in the first place. This is your country
and your lunch.

Paint it Black

We look towards the morning with hope and we look upon the evening dusk with regret. Optimism and pessimism can be internal mechanisms directing the way in which we view the world. As we look back at the campaign of Barack Obama we see now the side effects of offering hope and happy talk. Hope and change, words parsed, sliced, distressed and dissected with the skill of a coroner’s knife. Words designed to stir the emotions of hope and promise but with every phrase an escape clause and a doorway to despair.

“You know, there is a tendency in Washington to believe our job description, of elected officials, is to get re-elected. That’s not our job description,” Obama said. “Our job description is to solve problems and to help people.”

Notice how Barack Obama said “help people” and not to help “the” people generally but to help people singular and corporate.

“I will not slow down in terms of going after the big problems that this country faces,” he (Obama) said. “The easiest thing for me to do, Diane, would be to go small bore, avoid controversy, just make sure that everybody’s comfortable and we only propose things that don’t threaten any special interests in Washington. If you do that, then you can get a boost in the poll numbers.”

RENO, Nev. – “President Barack Obama said Thursday that the Justice Department will try to “root out” cases of fraud or manipulation in oil markets, even as Attorney General Eric Holder suggested a variety of legal reasons may be behind gasoline’s surge to $4 a gallon.” If my face appears blue it is because I’ll be holding my breath.

Machiavelli wrote, “Whenever those states which have been acquired as stated have been accustomed to live under their own laws and in freedom, there are three courses for those who wish to hold them: the first is to ruin them, the next is to reside there in person, the third is to permit them to live under their own laws, drawing a tribute, and establishing within it an oligarchy which will keep it friendly to you.”

“They wished to hold Greece as the Spartans held it, making it free and permitting its laws, and did not succeed. So to hold it they were compelled to dismantle many cities in the country, for in truth there is no safe way to retain them otherwise than by ruining them. And he who becomes master of a city accustomed to freedom and does not destroy it, may expect to be destroyed by it, for in rebellion it has always the watch-word of liberty and its ancient privileges as a rallying point, which neither time nor benefits will ever cause it to forget. And what ever you may do or provide against, they never forget that name or their privileges unless they are disunited or dispersed but at every chance they immediately rally to them.”

If we consider what Machiavelli is trying to tell us across the centuries then we can begin to understand all that is going on around us today. If you sought to destroy a free society you would first stifle incomes of its workers. Poor people working longer hours and earning less money have little time to organize resistance. Next you would destroy their cities and disperse them across large geographical areas without a city center. A poor mass transit system would assist the oligarchy in isolating the people.

Free Trade and the outsourcing of jobs accomplish several of these tasks while enriching the corporations at the same time. Yet most importantly is a program of constant demoralization of the people. To attempt to destroy their faith and their beliefs and so to instill in them a feeling of hopelessness and inevitability. So if corporate sources promote a political candidate whose platform is based upon hope and change then his failure will by itself demoralize his supporters.

What of his opponents, you might ask, won’t they become encouraged by his failure? They might, if not for a steady stream of nonsense issues which make it appear as if the candidate or office holder is unjust or unqualified and flaunting or abusing his power. Actual crimes and abuses become hidden by faux issues disseminated by a complicit corporate media. A birth certificate becomes more important than the indefinite detention of a whistle blower.

A huge artificial deficit amassed through tax cuts for the oligarchy and huge military budgets leave the wealthy safe and comfortable while deficits and unemployment leave workers and their families fearful about their futures. Wall Street recovers as Main Street languishes and the federal government offers to its struggling people, little, less and nothing.

The deficit is then proclaimed by all political parties as the cause of all suffering and only the gutting of those social programs for the poor and middle class will save us from ultimate doom and destruction. Warnings from Wall Street funded bonding agencies are used to heighten the tension.

Remember that when George W. Bush left office many Republicans were demoralized yet to the oligarchy George W. Bush was the most successful Republican President since Ronald Reagan. He bankrupted the treasury with two phony wars and initiated a massive tax reduction scheme for the wealthy. The idea of being greeted in Iraq with flowers and candy was purely a child like scenario. It was already known to be false by all military doctrines; it instead served the oligarchy by a long protracted struggle based on a phony national security issue.

Look back at the last ten years from the standpoint of the oligarchy.

Increased corporate profits with lower tax rates for corporations and the wealthy.

Weakened labor unions with smaller membership numbers.

Bank borrowing interest rates from the Federal Reserve near zero while lending interest rates to the public remain high.

A reduced number of major banks and brokerage houses amounting to a cartel and the departure of the federal government from mortgage lending.

A Real Estate depression in which the Federal Reserve fully reimburses member banks for their losses at public expense and a federal government which withholds any assistance for individual homeowners.

Consider that a home is the one and only asset the average American family will ever own. The destruction of ten million private homes pushes those families down to non-owning peasant status. With the end of government mortgage assistance the banking cartels shall now dictate who and when and how you will purchase property in this society.

Falling wages for all but the top twenty percent of wage earners and for almost all other Americans a decade of zero wage growth.

How quickly and successfully Barack Obama detached himself from his own renewal of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy versus last weeks call for austerity based on the Cat Food Commission’s recommendations. His argument was counter pointed and framed against the backdrop of Paul Ryan’s societal white wedding suicide pact. Yet the centerpiece of both political parties’ deficit reduction programs is a cut in the corporate tax rate and yet another tax cut for the wealthy.

The corporate media pick and choose to pull corn kernels from the manure pile. They ignore stolen elections or any objective criticism of corporate fascism in America instead creating a fantasy world of illusions. Drunken starlets, unreality shows and tea baggers, Sarah Palin or sports. Creating new stories from whole cloth, Dearborn —A controversial Florida pastor and his associate were released from jail tonight after being held briefly for refusing to pay a $1 “peace bond” after a jury ruled they would “likely breach the peace” with plans to protest a mosque.

Can a pastor be a pastor without a flock? Terry Jones had said recently that only he and the associate pastor remained as members in his “church.” That would make him an unemployed pastor who has the money to travel and to foment new breaches of the peace. After a meeting with a local Imam on Friday the hand gun which Jones carries discharged accidentally. Sure it did, but how does a Florida pastor carry a concealed handgun on a Michigan street? No charges were filed, no of course not, why would they be?

Franklin Roosevelt once said, “An attack on any religion is an attack on all religion.” It is a key element of any totalitarian movement to destroy the prevailing religion or to have an official religion which is then controlled or muzzled by the whims of government. It is often the case where the regime will pit one religious belief against another setting up alleged fifth columnists or enemies of the true faith.

In this case Jones had gone to Dearborn Michigan to protest in front of a Mosque. To protest in front of people who had said or done nothing to this “Christian” pastor. It is very similar to the actions Neo-Nazis who had once wanted to march through Skokie Illinois where many holocaust survivors resided. The purpose was only to offend and to defame and then to claim victim hood while committing an assault in a media circus environment.

A Christian faith which has adopted the tactics of Neo-Nazis? As Jones is not alone, Westboro Baptist Church has funding to travel far and wide to offend and Franklin Graham says, maybe this Donald Trump is onto something with his birther falderal. Even the preacher down the road from you is praising the sacrifice of the troops in Iraq protecting our freedom yet the gospel of Jesus Christ never said anything like that and the troops in Iraq aren’t defending anything except the wealth of the oligarchy.

Simply pawns in the game displayed for your amusement, a comfortable illusion of good guys and bad guys, cowboys and Indians. A two party political system where both parties wish to achieve the same goals through different routes. A one party state with right and center wings ever cascading towards the reactionary night.

Suddenly the enemies of this society have gone from being Communists, terrorists and Muslims to autoworkers, public school teachers and state employees. Their pensions and benefits are seen as an affront to a public which once had pensions and benefits of their own. Billionaire TV celebrities versus wicked public school workers.

“But when cities or countries are accustomed to live under a prince, and his family is exterminated, they, being on the one hand accustomed to obey and on the other hand not having the old prince, cannot agree in making one from amongst themselves, and they do not know how to govern themselves. For this reason they are very slow to take up arms, and a prince can gain them to himself and secure them much more easily.” Niccolo Machiavelli

Establishing a government where failure for you is success for the oligarchy, where financial distress for labor means financial excess for Capital. A government where the people are regulated and corporations are not. Where corporations are treated as persons while actual persons, citizens no less, have little standing. A government where religion is propaganda tool of media. The median home price fell 5.9 percent year over year and nearly fifty percent of all home sales were distressed sales as home prices fell for a third straight year. Stock prices on the Dow Jones rose over twelve hundred points as Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs cashed in an $18 million bonus check.
