David Neiwert posted an interesting clip at Crooks & Liars of Glenn Beck interviewing Thomas Sowell. Sowell begins by redefining fascism as the government maintaining "private ownership, and the politicians should tell the people how to run their businesses."
Dictionary.com defines fascism as:
A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
The conservatives are trying to once again create confusion through creative but deceptive misuse of language.
In World War II, we fought facsim. Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco were all fascists. But the right wing will tell you to add the current administration to that infamous group, because of current government ownership stakes in banks, insurance companies, and car manufactures (all problems inherited from the previous Administration’s economic failures).
Former GOP Rep. Tom Tancredo calls La Raza a "Latino KKK without hoods or nooses."
White is black, rich is poor, and stupid is smart? Say it enough times and 35% of the population will believe it to be true. Now that is the road to fascism.

When I see the term (word) conservative my mind replaces it with fascism. In the Bush years government became so interwound with corporations much like an electric motor is wound with copper. This powerhouse of money and government has pretty much destroyed our society and country and economy to the point of collapse. We now have a chance to change this direction however I don’t see any inclination by the Dems to try. Fascism still rules the day.
Add Prescott in front of Bush and your comment still is true.
Thanks DL, recommended.
What they’re talking about in the United States, latina-supremacist, black supremacist…; doesn’t elicit the fear response of “white supremacist.”
I have always thought liberals/progressives had much to gain by pinning people down on what kind of racism they fear.
” Doublespeak (sometimes called doubletalk) is language constructed to disguise or distort its actual meaning, often resulting in a communication bypass. Doublespeak may take the form of bald euphemisms (e.g., “downsizing” for layoffs) or deliberate ambiguity.
The term doublespeak was coined in the early 1950s. It is often incorrectly attributed to George Orwell and his 1949 dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. The term does not appear in that novel, although Orwell did coin newspeak, oldspeak, and doublethink, and his novel made fashionable composite nouns with speak as the second element, which were previously unknown in English. Doublespeak may be considered, in Orwell’s lexicography, as the vocabulary of Newspeak, words “deliberately constructed for political purposes: words, that is to say, which not only had in every case a political implication, but were intended to impose a desirable mental attitude upon the person using them.” The term double talk (with a similar meaning) dates back to at least 1936.”

Thanks blue.
I think the GOP is having it both ways by attacking us but not pointing out that without government help the GOP the Party of the Rich and big corporations would be jumping out of windows right now.
All our big banks would be under and if GM and Chrysler can’t pay their parts makers then Ford goes under too.
The GOP seems to want the Tax Payers to just hand the big Corporations the money and keep quiet.
Sorry GOP we own these companies now not you.
Because we protest and want immigrants to get better pay? If Immigrants got the same pay as whites then they would not lower American wages.
The Business wing of the GOP laughs at the Minute Men and Tea baggers because they never get fined for hiring immigrants.
Nope they use the Tea Baggers votes to keep immigrants illegal, but notice they never get rid of the immigrants.
So the Tea Baggers stay unemployed angry and voting GOP. The immigrants stay employed but treated as wage slave.
However the children of immigrants seem to have caught on and are now voting Dem!
“Fascism should be called corporatism, since it represents a merger of corporate and State power.”
-Benito Mussolini (who knew a little bit about fascism).
