A new coalition of gun rights and conservative groups has proclaimed January 19, 2013, “Gun Appreciation Day” — the group, calling themselves GAD, has begun urging Americans nationwide to show their support for gun ownership by turning out en masse at gun stores, ranges, and shows from coast to coast.

The message should be “thank you!”
After all, he’s done more to promote gun sales than pretty much anybody.
What is wrong with these people? The lack of empathy in this country is appalling. Do they not realize that some of the hundreds of children killed every year could be theirs? Collateral damage, I guess.
Gad as in Gadfly I’m sure.
The right to bear arms means the right to bear **all** arms? No it doesn’t. Fully automatic machine guns are illegal for a reason. they pose too much risk to the public. They probably think that’s unconstitutional.
Fully automatic machine guns ARE legal for individuals to own in 43 states. However, they are strictly regulated by the BATFE. There is a background check and a transfer tax required before approval to purchase.
e
That should read “approval to purchase”.
Jesus fucking h christ.
My retort?
All you gun owners, I want laws holding you as responsible, and that means PRISON bitchez, as responsible as any shooters who GOT your guns, be you siblings, parents or friends.
Cuz you weren’t smart enough to lock your guns and ammo up in a safe that NO ONE ELSE could get into.
I could GIVE a rats ass if you own guns but I WILL support your full prosecution if you leave them unlocked where others can get to them.
This one’s on YOU, gun owners, don’t be trying to blame gubbermint, libruhls, or any other twat waddle nonsense to justify you ignorant red necked lives.
N those of you who are NOT twat waddled, or ignorant, or red necked libertarians, well, you best lock up YOUR guns, too.
Cuz yer ALL the reason this shit’s outta hand. Lock ‘em up or we lock YOUR ass up.
End of story.
They avoided calling it Gun Ownership Day, since the acronym might be slightly objectionable to some.
” I fart in their general direction. I wave my genitals at their Aunties. ” Monty Python
Yeah whatever. Way to miss the point sparky.
The point is you don’t know federal law. You’re just talkin’ out your ass, Buck-o.
Buck-o, is it? Have you ever been to the parking lot of a gun show, Buck-o? It’s where serious gunny wannabes hang out. There’s more weapons exchanged there than inside the frickin’ place, Buck-o. Who’s zoomin’ who here, Buck-o? Federal law? Give me a break, Buck-o. Just Buck-oin’.
If you want to win, you’ll have to base your arguments on more than emotion. Something called reality, or in this instance, the law. Distort it, imagine it is something other than it is, misrepresent it, and you will be thrown out of court and your case dismissed with predjudice.
Yes, you will lose.
I have always enjoyed how liberals/progressive become angry when someone with a legal background tries to guide them to the proper foundation (statutes and case law) to deal with the problem of gun violence in America. It is as if by telling persons in an angry emotional state the truth of what they are up against and must deal with to prevail that somehow the lawyer is on the side of their enemy. But none of you really do want to win. You’re satisfied with being merely self-righteously outraged. That way you can feel better about yourselves “for caring”. And you will do NOTHING to rid guns from an already vicious society.
No, the point was there are some arms that private citizens are not allowed to own because they’re too dangerous. Take your irrelevant nonsense and piss off.
A courtroom is a mechanical place. Movement is based on rigid rules of procedure and arguments that are intended to be based on reason, symmetry, and above all FACTS. To argue that machine guns are illegal is tactical suicide, because they are not, and your adversary will point this out immediately.
Just take your liberal/progressive condescension, your made-up facts, your lack of desire to research what the law really says, your emotional shrillness, and your angry lyricism to a court of law on this issue and I guarantee you will do serious damage to the goal of reasonable firearms restrictions
And I repeat: it is not irrelevant nonsense. The point is, while these weapons are extremely dangerous, private citizens ARE ALLOWED TO OWN THEM! They are legal under federal law and the law of 43 states!
You are basing your argument on a falsehood. Good luck with that.
And I refuse to piss off when someone is so confidently and aggressively talking out his ass.
You seem familiar. Aren’t you the guy a while back who was trying to tell me the Wobblies were socialists, not syndicalists? I think that was you.
No, I’m basing my opinion on the fact that machine guns are basically illegal, theyre no longer made, and very few people own them. therefore theyre not a major problem. I know gun nuts liek you salivate to jump in when someone uses ‘clip’ instead of ‘magazine,’ but you’re not making any sense. The assault weapon ban needs to be reinstated, large clips banned, and the gun show loophole closed. you can rattle off whatever series of ‘gotcha facts’ you want, it’s irrelevant. the common denominator with gun freaks is an endless supply of nonsense and no common sense at all.
First of all, I’m not a gun nut, but I do have a background in federal law. Glad to see you did some research on machine guns so now you are able to at least clear up some of untruths you were citing as fact. Remember, Google is your friend, Jim.
And yes, Jim, I do make sense. What I read from you is the wish list of a highly distraught man.
machine guns are basically illegal
Under the law, whether the law is by statute, code, or bench made, objects and behaviors are either legal or they are illegal. It shares the same either/or as pregnancy: to say a woman is “basically unpregnant” is absurd.
Machine guns ARE legal in most of the US. And if you had any sense at all you could make a pretty good argument that all other firearms should fall under the same restrictions: An upfront payment of a hefty tax which is not refundable if you do not pass a lengthy background check which takes about six months. Yes, treating all guns like machine guns would solve a lot of problems and eliminate purchases by countless people who should never own guns. But you’re too eager to brand me as a member of the other side when you should be building strong arguments and testing them to see if they are air tight.
Anyway, thanks for wasting my time with absolutely nothing of value. Have fun doing somersaults with minutia.
I was just reading about 51 gun shows that ban loaded guns on the premises. For safety reasons. I wonder how safety conscious they are going to be on their national play date.
I bet the list of names will include unvalidated names of members of organizations, shooting ranges, gun clubs, etc., just like nomination papers from some politicians we know.
Too bad every person cannot be directly contacted to verify their participation and embarrassed into a dialogue about public safety and social responsibility.
This is like Daily Kos. On Kos, criticize Obama and you’re accused of being a Teabagger. On this site, tell some, but not all, Firedogs that if the’re going to change lax US gun laws they should start by knowing what those laws actually ARE is just too much to ask. First, you’re accused of being a “gun nut”, then derided for bringing up “minutia”.
Jim, I’m old enough to have watched liberalism die in my lifetime. It was people like you, who want to be part of a trendy scene and don’t have a fucking clue what your’re talking about that killed it. You made it look absurd and cliche-ish in the eyes of the public. They public may be dumbed-down, but their instincts are good, and they can tell when someone like you is just pullin’ it out your ass.
And yeah, I’m pretty certain you are the douchbag that was spewing all that misinformation about the IWW/Wobblies a while back. I thought you were a plant back then. Now I think you’re just stupid.
I think we are all on the same side here, striving to attain the same ends.
I received an invite to this thing from an old service buddy and gun enthusiast. One can never overestimate the ardor of “Second Amendment Rights” crowd.
TheyA large number of these folks honestly believe the “Cold dead fingers” crap.I haven’t had a personal weapon for over a decade, and when I did, I was a serious (and modestly accomplished) target shooter. Growing up in a place where the gun culture was very strong, it took me some time to realize how destructive guns are to our values, young, and overall society.
With people of this ilk as your constituents, it's probably not difficult for the FBI, CIA and / or the Secret Service to convince you that you may befall a Frank Serpico situation if you don't thoroughly play ball during your administration.
Well, sir, having owned my first gun (410) when I was six and knowing people with Class C firearm licenses for decades I’m not a rookie here. And, having been through at least a dozen sales of military type weapons by 1988 (legal then) when I gave them all up, it really cracks me up you think the laws need to be changed, or tweaked somehow. There’s at least 230 million horse out of the barn, already. BTW- Don’t introduce me to terms like reality, self righteous, emotionally outraged psycho babble. Blah, blah, blah to you, too. Tell that to the parents of all the dead children just in the last 12 months, here. Have you ever shot someone, Buck-0? Well, I have. And, I’m guessing you’ve never been to a parking lot of an in progress gun show. Hiding behind legal fine tuning reminds me of the old saying; ” the law is an ass. ”
The organizers of Gun Appreciation Day want you to bring your Constitution to the events. Cool. How about this section of the Constitution, the Preamble, which brackets their Holy Second Amendment and the rest of the amendments:
I challenge anyone to show me how a high capacity clip promotes any of the goals of the Preamble.
