VIDEO: A New Populist Political Party Emerges from Occupy {aTV 006}

Several activists who were early initiators behind the Occupy movement have formed a new political party, The After Party. Carl Gibson and Radio Raheem are among them and they join Dennis to discuss the launch and future plans.

In the second half of the show, comedian Lee Camp, who performed at several Occupy encampments, talks about his new weekly comedy show, Redacted Tonight, now airing on RT every Friday night at 8:30 and 11PM EST.

The After Party’s platform is as follows:

RESPECT FOR HUMAN NEEDS

We believe that government exists by the consent of the governed and is instituted locally by people to serve their collective needs. We will work to create a responsive government that recognizes the still-unpaid debts owed to the victims of slavery and poverty and we will implement a guaranteed basic income for all citizens.

Lee Camp Interview: “Redacted Tonight Is The Daily Show With Sharper Teeth”

Originally posted at PopularResistance.org

Lee Camp sits down for an interview with Dennis Trainor, Jr. to discuss his new 30-munite weekly comedy show on RT, Redacted Tonight.

“In my opinion, (Redacted Tonight) is The Daily Show with sharper teeth,” says Camp. “The Daily Show is incredibly funny, and I don’t deny that, and I’m a huge fan of The Daily Show, but,” Camp notes, “as Chris Hedges has said, ‘Colbert and Stewart are allowed to go after the foibles of out leaders but they can’t go after the deeper concerns. (Such as) the deeper idea that the two main political parties are completely bought by these corporations and aren’t speaking for the people.”

Lee also talks about his new stand up video special, We Are Nothing, the Liz Wahl, Abby Martin kerfuffle, and what it is like to have Vladimir Putin have editorial control over a comedy show. Ok, the thing about Putin is a joke, but Trainor forces the issue not once, but twice.
Redacted Tonight with Lee Camp airs on the RT network every Friday night at 8PM & 11:30PM EST and is published inline at RT.com.

About Reacted Tonight with Lee Camp |
With reality now seeming like a Shakespearean comedy, perhaps only comedy can truly bring truth to the people. DC-born comedian Lee Camp and a talented cast do just that with RT America’s first comedy show – Redacted Tonight with Lee Camp. This is not your grandparents’ satire program. Every week Redacted Tonight will provide comedy news with a punch. This weekly satire show tackles all the real news stories the mainstream media failed to mention and provides new angles on the ones they do.

In the premiere episode of the show (watch here) “Lee Camp takes a swipe at Monsanto, a company that makes him sick, and John F. O’Donnell gets molested by the tentacles of the billionaire Kochtopus. Obama ends the War in Afghanistan with something other than peace, while Chilean magician, Papas Fritas, makes $500 million in student debt disappear. Sam Sacks examines NSA reform – and by “reform,” we mean ”business as usual.” A second Deutsche Bank video against boasting bankers is mysteriously leaked, and speaking of leaks – radiation is leaking in New Mexico. Tennessee brings back a shocking punishment, and more!”

Lee Camp and I discuss the (actual) state of the union, Obama’s “all of the above” energy policy as it relates to jobs, corporate profits and the climate crisis, and how blindly “supporting for the troops” is unhealthy for children and all other living things.

The full campaign spoofing the Direct TV commercials, produced by Acronym TV for Move To Amend. All six spots, each about 30 seconds, are included here in this single video.

Written by Lee Camp and Dennis Trainor, Jr, and Directed by Trainor, these spots aim to hijack a popular meme to shine a seriously unserious light on the issues of corporate personhood and money as free speech.

Move to Amend is a coalition of hundreds of organizations and tens of thousands of individuals committed to social and economic justice, ending corporate rule, and building a vibrant democracy that is genuinely accountable to the people, not corporate interests.

We are calling for an amendment to the US Constitution to unequivocally state that inalienable rights belong to human beings only, and that money is not a form of protected free speech under the First Amendment and can be regulated in political campaigns.
Over 300,00 people have signed the Move To Amend statement that states:

“We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.”

Fukushima: The Beginning of The End Of Nuclear Power | Resistance Report #12

Members of the Green Shadow Cabinet traveled to the UN on Thursday to deliver a petition signed by 150,000 citizens of the world demanding that the government of Japan transfer responsibility for the Fukushima reactor site to an international engineering firm overseen by a civil society panel and an international group of nuclear experts. Additionally, the petition demanded that the global media be permitted around-the-clock access to accurate information throughout the entire process of removal of the spent fuel rods so that the international community can be informed of any risks to its health.

Russell Brand, Lloyd Dobler, And Finding Your Inner Dorothy

1:09 pm in Uncategorized by Dennis Trainor Jr

Cross posted from Acronym TV

While watching Russell Brand’s BBC interview, it is not hard to imagine two families in Middle America, neighbors, watching separately in the comfort of their own homes as Russell Brand does his bit and each nod in lonely agreement. “Yes!” they are likely to say, “this Russell Brand fellow is right.” But Family A has to work hard at a job they are made to feel they are lucky to have buying something, selling something, or processing something when, like their inner Lloyd Dobler, they don’t want to buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, they don’t want to do that. And Family B is doing the same thing. Both are trying to keep up with the Joneses, as the expression goes. Family B is competing to send their kids to better schools and than Family A; and Family A is competing just as hard to beat out Family B. They are each other’s Jones.

But there is NO Jones.

“Jones” is a construct, a shackle. And don’t you know, Jones is like the show put on by the Wizard of OZ to scare you into submission. Time for us all to find our inner Dorothys, click our heels together and build a new world called home. A new world called home. Stop the machine and build a new world called home.

Terror Alert: Why Now?, Tar Sands Blocked, ALEC Turns 40 | Resistance Report 003

8:03 am in Uncategorized by Dennis Trainor Jr

Stories covered this week include:

OBAMA TERROR ALERT
Even a former CIA analyst who was part of the team that hunted Osama bin Laden for years, Nada Bakos said- “We just showed our hand, so now they’re obviously going to change their position on when and where”. And Will McCants, a former State Department adviser on counterterrorism said -“It’s crazy pants – you can quote me.”

DETROIT, ROCK BOTTOM
So what’s happening in Detroit? It seems like every time we hear about the motor city we hear about its economic struggles and everything in between, from the blighted neighborhoods, thousands of boarded up homes, abandoned local businesses, rampant crime, and a more than 50% decline in the cities population since 2008. What we don’t hear about is the new game that our friends in the banking department of the bourgeoisie are playing with the livelihoods of Detroit’s residents. As we know, Wall Street has a tendency to bundle, repackage and gamble on the market anything from Margaretville Mixers to Credit Default Swaps, and it just so happens that they’ve added Interest Rate Swaps to the same category. Joel Northam reports.

PROTESTORS SPOIL ALEC’s 40th BIRTHDAY
One of the organizers of the protest, Greg Goodman said: “ALEC promotes the interests of Big Business and the 1% while actively working to disenfranchise ordinary people, erode workers rights, gut the social safety net, destroy the environment, eliminate corporate liability, criminalize poverty and immigration, privatize the public goods and inject even more money into our political system, drowning out the voices and rights of the people.”

GLOBAL TEMPERATURES RISING, WHAT TO DO?
Human behavior is causing climate change, and unless we can reverse our current course no amount of clean canteen usage over Styrofoam cups will save us. But you and I are just individuals- what can we do about? Lee Camp joins the Resistance Report team to remind us one of the most obvious, if most difficult things we can do to fight Global warming.

STOP THE MACHINE!
Last week, environmental activists blockaded and shut down road construction that seeks to pave the way for companies like US Oil Sands to start working on the first industrial sized tar sands mine in the United States. Activists from Rising Tide Canyon Country and Peaceful Uprising engaged in a weeklong non-violent resistance training- the Canyon County action Camp- whose culminating action was the blockade.

THE GREAT GAS GALA- UK
The community in Balcombe, Sussex has been resisting attempts by fracking company Cuadrilla Resources to start drilling in their village since July 25. According to their website (greatgasgala.org.uk): “The camp outside the site is still going strong though, with people refusing to be intimidated by this police thuggery. People are staying overnight but more support is needed. Carloads of people arriving from all over UK. “
