Now, as if we ever had any doubt, both parties have openly declared themselves to be parties of, by and for the rich, the looters, the .01%. The main effect of the Republicans presidential slate will be to give Obama cover so he can pirouette back to the center right, broadening his appeal to rightist voters and maintaining his lead with centrist independents.
Unless the economic situation suddenly deteriorates a lot, instead of steadily getting worse a bit at time, Obama has it in the bag even though he remains a bigot, a union buster, a Bill of Rights buster and a ‘leader’ whose mass murder of GI’s and civilians from Palestine to Pakistan is continually ignored by his supporters.
Likewise ignored is the fact that his VP candidate, Biden is notorious for leading the fight to pass the Bankruptcy Act of 2005, an act that guaranteed that predatory bankers and lenders would get the last drop of blood from mortgage, auto and credit card borrowers. Ryan couldn’t have done worse.
What we’re left with is another election, another magical ‘lesser evil’ candidate of the ruling class who’ll win and screw us sans lube and sans condom.
In case anyone wondered, the system is not broken. It was designed to be anti-democratic, beginning with the Electoral College, which has been extended over the years with hundreds of state, federal and local anti-democratic laws meant to keep the left off the ballot, giving us only two choices, the party of war that Democrats support and the party of war that their Teabagger cousins support.
Not voting or lodging a protest vote is the option chosen by roughly one third of eligible voters in most elections. They’re the smart ones who’ve concluded that ‘elections’ in a banana republic are futile at best and a diversion from the real struggle, which is rebuilding unions, organizing the unemployed, small farmers and GI’s for a movement to create a real alternative – workers parties that can create a workers government.

The system is not broken, as you said. It is fixed. Against us.
The only solution is electoral reform- ie proportional representation.
ok maybe it isn’t the whole solution, but it would break up the tyranny of the present system.
Bill–
You nailed it.

Short. Concise. To the point, and true.
Rec’d.
I disagree, codeine. Proportional representation in a worker’s state with a worker’s government controlled by worker’s parties is half the answer.
The other half is the elimination of the wealth, power and political clout of the .01%. They create wars, poverty, a vast prison population that constitutes a new form or Jim Crow, homelessness, low wages and depression levels of unemployment and underemployment. All of those conditions are ruling class imposed forms of violence, especially against children.
That activity will only be criminalized and prosecuted by a worker’s government.
A solid diary hit down center field Bill and easily a home run.
With all the talk of Austerity and Need To Balance and Must Tax Less and Must Cut SS/MC and United States Is Too Poor To Help Poor Americans but America Must Bail Out Wall St./Mega Banks these past 3-10 years one would have thought at least one side or maybe even two sides of the five sided Pentagon would be shut down and vacant here in August 2012. Just like so many of the manufacturing plants and shopping malls and houses that were homes across the USA.
A thinking person pretty much has to conclude we Americans need some deep governance changes at the national/regional levels with a good deal of WashingtonDC phased out in favor of going down to regional governance, regional politics and regional policy formations and try outs. The regional governments would be able to do what states find difficult to do and yet would not be too far away from too many Americans to know political pushback and fell political consequences.
As for the two party craps table politics we Americans are now told is democracy it seems either having no political parties might be better or having at least five viable poltical parties might solve some of the deep shortfalls of the current American UniParty Regime.
But while we are at it lets take the corporate personhood concept and throw it on the junk heap along with the idea that any American government at regional or national level needs to borrow American Dollars from the wealthy and pay them interest for doing so. The Dollar originates with the American people and we should be able to solve our problems without having to pretend the One Percent get to not pay taxes but loan at interest their $$ billions to the USA.
Finally for the militarists and war munitions corporatists and for any POTUS who want to have conflicts, warmaking and be imperial doing so lets make it official law that when the POTUS,the Pentagon, the CIA and any allied private mercenary interests want to have bases, meddle,do covert/overt attacks or sell warmachines and machines of death in/to other nations they have to go with the troops and the warmachines and live right alongside the warmaking and arms buyers/sellers. So if G.W.Bush and R.B.Cheney wanted a war in Iraq they went with the first 5,000 troops and had to stay in Iraq until the last 5,000 troops came back to North America/USA. If POTUS Obama wants to kill humans in Afghanistan,Pakistan,Yemen,Libya or Syria whether they be militants or innocents POTUS Obama needs to leave WashingtonDC along with his SoS,SoD and all other WH senior staff and stay in the worst conflict zone(s) POTUS Obama has created or wants to sustain. Same law applied to Pentagon and Langley. No proxies allowed. No farming out the killing allowed. As for the Drone Death Dealers they have to be in the conflict zone close enough where taking some live fire is a real possibility. None of this Video Arcade Killing then hop in the SUV and drive home from work to American Suburbia to go shopping with the wife and kids.
Not realistic? No less than the BS regime(s) we are going nowhere with here in the USA in mid 2012. Undoubtedly the “Can’t Be Done” crowd and happy with the current R vs. D junk partisans will not want to see this stuff coming about. It is too revolutionary.
It is too revolutionary? At this point with both the Rs and Ds as Bill succinctly points out above giving us the same BS and telling us it is not the same BS getting revolutionary is a good gamechanger.
Stay with it Bill. Recommended.
Not voting sucks and only plays into the hands of the Demlicans and Republicrats.
Voting for the third party that most closely fits with your principles is far likely to have the impact you want.
But, act quickly. I don’t think it will be long before elections are totally fixed.
The popular vote has become so close as it is, especially in the purple states, which are the only ones that the candidates care about anyway. It doesn’t take much to fix it.
Superb, spot-on, and sublime.
Recommended to the consideration and conscience of everyone at FDL.
This diary ought to be front-paged.
It deserves to be front-paged.
The truth always does …
Thank you, Bill.

“I don’t think it will be long before elections are totally fixed.”
The fix is in already. Campaigns are just ways to pass bucks to our propaganda arm (affectionately known as the MSM), and to see which corp entities the politicians are going to cater to to keep their bribes coming. As Nader said, there’s not a dimes bit o’ difference between the Ds n the Rs.
The only part I really have a problem with is when you call Obama a “bigot”. What are you basing that on?
He’s basing that on what Glen Beck told him…. or maybe it was Flush … or probably both
Nah…it only plays into the hands of the republicans
Always has …
….and you know it too ….
Go back to Redstate sweetie….
I looked up bigotry
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry
and I think he meant that Obama is prejudiced against brown, poor or elderly people and therefore a bigot.
As my sainted Irish granma used to say, Up the Revolution! and Up Yours, Bessie!
This is a banana republic. Enough said.
1) Obama spent the first three years in office saying that gawd didn’t want gays to get married and opposing a court overturn of Bill Clinton’s DOMA, using vile, bigoted language. The two key players in his 2008 election were Josh DuBois, his faith (read bigot) outreach director and Leah Daughtry, 2008 Chair of the Democrat Convention and COO of the DNC. Both were extreme christian bigots and ordained pentecostal ministers.
2) His political BBFs include christer scum like Rick Warren, who spoke at Obama’s inaugural and then went on to help draft the ‘Kill the Gays’ bill in Uganda and evangelist and Donnie McClurkin, who’s violently anti-GLBT.
3) He says that the civil right to marry is up to the states, a longtime Democrat position held by Jeff Davis and later by Dixiecrats and now by Obama and most Republicans. It’s key because forty states have laws and constitutional amendments forbidding marriage equality.
4) Now, because of the firestorm of anger he created when he refused to extend antidiscrimination protections to workers with companies that have federal contracts, he claims to have evolved into a ‘reformed’ bigot. https://lifeasiknowitv1.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/pigsfly.jpg
Thanks
Not exactly, he’s an antigay bigot. Look at my remark 16.
His policy of denying medical care to imported and immigrant workers is most certainly racist, and so are his wars against Arab/muslim nations and communities in the US.
As for his attitude towards people of color it best summed up by “Few predict that Barack Obama will generate the Black turnout that propelled him to victory in 2008. “A small but growing number” of Black former Obama enthusiasts “have grown weary of the charade and know they have been played for fools.” Race pride motivated them the first time around, but that is harder to muster for “a man who never saw them as anything more than saps who would vote for him no matter what he said or did.” Black Agenda Report senior editor Margaret Kimberley 06 13 2012
Obama’s attitude towards people of color is one of malign neglect.
Republicans are right centrist union busting, warmongering bigots and racists with an evangelist attached at the thigh.
Democrats are Republicans in drag.
