Obama is not some liberal community organizer gone sour. He is a mass murderer and a determined opponent of the first ten amendments to the Constitution of the US.
Obama, like all presidential candidates, was carefully screened and his loyalty to the rich insured before he ran for office. His two books clarified his role as a conservative (conserving the wealth of the rich) and as “radical”, but only in the sense of being willing to appear to champion the causes of workers and consumers. Caesar and Napoleon used the same strategy.
He’s very much like Richard Nixon in that respect and others. Nixon refused to campaign to block Medicare and the Voting Rights act to keep a base and, aside from his attempts to impose wage and price controls, he rarely tried major attacks on unions. What he did do was doggedly pursue LBJ’s dreams of empire and hegemony in SE Asia, escalating the war in Vietnam until it became a nightmare for the Vietnamese who died by the hundreds of thousands and for GI’s who died by the tens of thousands.
Nixon also escalated attacks on civil liberties by creating the lynch mob mentality among cops that led to the murders at Jackson State and Kent State and he escalated the FBI led murder campaign against the Black Panthers. Nixon had pretensions of grandeur and his advisors discussed violent attacks on the Bill of Rights but the size and brute strength of the GI and civilian antiwar movements’ and the real possibility of another, far more serious round of Black uprisings kept him on a short leash.
Obama, always a closet conservative, has followed much the same path, escalating the war for empire and hegemony in SW Asia. But in other respects, Obama has moved far to the right of Nixon. Absent an antiwar movement, Obama has gone much further in his attacks on the Bill of Rights in this country and the connected attacks on human rights from Morocco to Indonesia.
Domestically he’s begun to murder American citizens and promises he’ll keep it up. He’s appealing the court decision on NDAA, supports FISA (massive wiretapping and spying), supports the anti-Bill of Rights provisions of the Paytriot Act and tortured gay/antiwar hero Brad Manning.
Overseas he’s clearly become a war criminal, responsible for the mass murder of tens of thousands of Libyans, Palestinians, Afghans and Pakistanis and the wastage of the lives of GI’s. He, his cabinet and his JCS, like his predecessors Reagan, the Bushes and the Clintons’ are all fair candidates for investigation by an International War Crimes tribunal.
Obama’s murderous policies are guaranteed to get worse. The times we live in are very much like the last years of the Roman Republic when dynastic extended families fought for control with terrific bloodletting. Caesar won and Augustus ended the Republic forever.
We can’t guess what date the future will ascribe to our version of crossing the Rubicon but it could be anytime in the Bush or Obama Administrations.

The system is arranged now so that only people who can be trusted to collude with the criminal financial class and to continue ongoing war crimes will ever see the ballot as a major party candidate. This is not a scam being perpetrated on the American electorate, that electorate is willfully complicit in the criminality.
If you voted either Republican or Democrat, along with responsibility for all the needless suffering caused by the .01%’s outrageous misconduct there is the blood of many thousands on your hands. Both parties are fully complicit and the criminal collusions are now done in full public view– in the age of the internet the only ignorance is willfull ignorance.
That we have apologists for and supporters of one branch of this kleptocracy even on a putatively progressive site like FDL speaks loudly to the depth and breadth moral rot.
Lesser evilism is the lusty embrace of evil behind a flimsy fig leaf of deniability. You vote for it; you own it.
“You vote for it; you own it.”
Well said:
I made a similar response on another thread and the O supporters descended on me like a wolf on a carcass. Evil is Evil.
O’s community organizing was a front for his helping Rezco to steal land from poor people.
Democratic partisans aren’t “realists” or “pragmatic thinkers”, they are full on enablers of real evil– evil that manifests itself as millions of shattered lives destroyed by poverty and homelessness and as thousands of innocents including women and children killed by imperial wars of choice recklessly conducted by cowards.
I’m through playing nice with Democrats– and I hope you will be too. They are very much propagators of evil and that evil has real living victims. Saying “well, the Republicans are worse” and going on to cheer an allegedly slightly lesser evil is a shockingly cynical moral abdication. If you can’t see as much your moral compass is broken.
Two excellent comments, Kurt. Well stated, and I couldn’t agree more.
Thank you Bill Purdue, thank you Kurt Sperry.
Thank you Bradley Manning, thank you OWS.
@ timesthree: I could agree more, but it might throw my neck out of whack.
I agree. Democrats and Republicans have become full enablers of evil.
Dear Mr. Purdue;
“Obama, like all presidential candidates, was carefully screened and his loyalty to the rich insured before he ran for office. Who screened him, when was he screened? While I agree with all you’ve written, I would like some “elucidation” on what you’ve written. Forgive my loss for words, I’m trying to say I would like for you to expound on that paragraph in particular.
I know you’re a very good writer, and I like to read, and learn as much as I can, could you expand this, the screening in particular, maybe even write a separate diary?
…X 2
Thank you BP … commended
…yes
“When I said I would never vote for Bush because his foreign policy deliberately kills innocent people, they called me a good Democrat. When I said I would never vote for Obama for the same reason, they called me an evil Republican”. –mojada, FDL user.
Welcome to the “big show”. Much, much better than the “small show”. And all you need is to show your acquiescence and genuflect all the while, until of course you are dismissed by your “betters”. Maybe instead of asking if we can have some more (ya, like that’s going to happen … Brooklyn Bridge, she be on sale), we should be grateful for our scraps. Because those scraps be getting less and less (and really who can blame them, you can “charge” any amount for food from a starving man, … I think they call that “good business”). So shut your pie-hole, … have a little “civility”, … your starvation, pain, and suffering (of you and yours) is really bumming out your “betters”. So STFU, sit your commie-ass down, and take it like the biatch you are. (Why can’t you be subservient, a little groveling in your filth never hurt anyone, right? Why can’t you be like the masses who have accepted their fate? Kneel biatch, it’s where your kind belong.)
“Like any patriotic and loyal American, I will be giving my owners the same thing I have given them every year: My obedience and
deference; My rapt attention; My participation in their game; My acquiescence to their rules and political framing; My submission
to their authority and leadership; My thoughts, imagination and actions to their television; my money laid on their alter of consumerism; and my life for their wars of profit. In exchange–again as always–I only wish that they would stop being so goddamn good to me in return, for I have enjoyed as much of their paternalistic benevolence as I can stand.” ottogrendel
Although said sarcastically, the vast majority, literally hundreds of millions (many have, as have their children, been raped by the corporatists and their pawns) support the system or do nothing about it. Hate to break it to you, we’re outnumbered, … by a substantial margin. Not defending it, just stating the facts. Don’t believe me? Take a poll here at FDL. I’ll bet that it’s 5 to 1 here for those that voted for O. (And I think that’s a conservative estimate.)
Let me start:
Voted for O: 0
Didn’t vote for O: 1 (ie. me).
Copy and paste and add your vote to to the tally. (I would prefer anonymous entries, because that would give more honest results, but unless someone can do that, this all I got broheim.)
Sadly I have no way of refuting your exposing this man.
Obama is complicit with the Elite’s agenda of destroying the middle class. Complicit with them on endless wars. On looting the wealth of Main Street for the profits of those on Wall Street.
And in accordance with tambershall’s request – didn’t vote for or support the guy. Voted third party.
I’ll bet 5 to 1 is a VERY conservative estimate, and I’ll bet in 2008 it was more like 500:1
Seems some people really did manage to extract head from arse, and it only took them four years! Woot! Kudos and Gratz!
Spot on. This election wasn’t about policy, as the choice really wasn’t there, it was about the mythology of personal narratives, a billion dollar version of Star Search. An earlier post asked where the “candidates” were vetted, what do you suppose is discussed in those 50K per and up fundraisers?
Rec’d
Not that you’ll get anywhere near a vote sampling here, but I voted Green; you do the arithmetic; I have Numerophobia.
I voted Green and I shit in the beards of the lesser evilists who revel in their moral vacuity.
Obama is a snake I know well meaning people who really believe he cares about the average person. I figured him about a year into his first term and came to realize what a rotten SOB he really is. I voted green as well
Voted green.
I agree, Kurt – voting for Obama is like voting for war, unemployment, union busting and all the rest.
People are going to leave the Democrats in fairly large numbers because working people are moving left and the Democrats are right centrists moving right. Many will gravitate towards unions and groups of the unemployed like OWS as the union left fights for political independence and beyond that, a revolutionary perspective based on demands like these:
Military and Foreign Affairs
• Immediate, total and permanent withdrawal of all US troops, air and naval fleets, spy agencies and mercenaries to US home bases to be demobilized and until then used to improve infrastructure, protect strikers and people being foreclosed and to provide emergency housing, food and medical care for the homeless and unemployed.
• Cut all assistance to the zionist colony in Palestine, give the military assistance to the Palestinians and demand that the zionists accept Palestinian control of Palestine.
• Convene an International War Crimes Tribunal to investigate US involvement in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Korea, Panama, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Palestine, Pakistan and elsewhere.
• Convene an International Peace Conference based on a US constitutional renunciation of violence to solve international disputes. Pass a constitutional amendment renouncing aggression against other countries and making it a capital crime to lie and plot to begin wars of aggression.
Domestic Affairs
• Call for the expropriation of banks, financial institutions and manufacturing and transportation companies that accepted or applied for federal bailouts, to be run by councils of workers and consumers.
• Call for constitutional amendments guaranteeing socialized medicine, quality housing, nutrition and trade union levels of pay and benefits for workers, students, retirees, job trainees and the unemployed.
• Call for a 100% tax on personal income over $200,000.00 a year and a 100% tax on estates over that amount.
• End the horrors of unemployment by fighting for a 30 hour work week, with full benefits, for 40 hours pay and by supporting demands for trillions invested in a Manhattan Project style effort to green industry, agriculture and the infrastructure.
• Not a penny in handouts and bailouts for the looter rich. Criminalize industrial and agricultural pollution and polluters.
Civil Rights and liberties
• Full rights for immigrant and imported workers including the right of dual citizenship.
• Declare the US a multilingual nation.
• Criminalize discrimination, violence and harassment by racists, gynephobes, GLBT haters, immigrant bashers and union busters.
• Reinstate the Bill of Rights
I suspect that if there were a meeting where gazillionaires sat down and hand picked a candidate we’d know about it. Hell, we probably have a video. What does happen is less dramatic – before elections there are an endless series of roundtables and dinners in both parties where the wealthy and the party movers and shakers get a chance to hear candidates.
The process can take years, but they do seem to settle on one or another candidate and one or another candidate before each election and the money goes that way.
The end result of that process is that the rich pick someone they can trust. Read Obama’s books, it’s clear why he got so much support from the banksters and the looter class.
Thanks for the recommendations.
What all of have to do now is find ways to reorganize and re-energize people as the move left away from the twin parties of war, union busting, attacks on civil liberties and the policies that produced and maintain mass unemployment and poverty.
People vote for Democrats and Republicans because they have illusions that the US is a democracy and that voting produces change. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Occasionally Congress or the courts do validate those changes but they never produce or initiate them, and they have a bad habit of taking them back, as we’ll see soon as the details of the Great Betrayal are hammered out.
The US is a plutocratic republic and as the Romans found out, the republican part of the equation is subject to change. Secondly, real change only comes from mass action, masses of working people, small farmers and our allies organized with a view of creating a workers government.
Capitalist and reformist parties don’t have the ability or the desire to change things. If we want to implement a socialist program we’ll have to build workers parties and a workers government to do it. Nothing else works.
As people leave the Democrats they may be angry and many of them will be demoralized – our job is to capture them for the left. And they are leaving. Between Obama’s 2008 vote and the combined 2010 Democrat congressional vote the Democrats dropped about 30 million votes. Obama got about 5 million fewer votes in 2012 than he got in 2008 and they didn’t all go to Republicans.
After I got all of Obama’s books from the library, and planed to buy the ones they didn’t have; I went home and turned on the TV to find that he supported the Republican 700 billion dollar bailout of Wall Street. I never opened not one of those books, nor do I plan to open any of Obama’s books in the future.
Now I understand where you’re coming from.
Obama was key to it’s passage. Bush was twisting the arms of Republicans but they were terrified to vote for it because it was so unpopular. Obama told Democrats to vote for it, and it wouldn’t have passed otherwise.
Congressional Democrats are often thought of as being a bit to the left of the WH, but it’s not true. They’re right centrists and nothing about them is leftist. They voted overwhelmingly for the Clinton/Republican deregulation bills of 1999 and 2000, for DOMA, and for DADT and NAFTA in significant numbers. They voted for the invasion and occupation of Iraq and repeatedly for the Paytriot Act and it’s extensions and for FISA and NDAA.
To date Obama, Congress and the Fed have given the looter class and the banksters $7.7 trillion dollars, most of which is lying around collecting interest and much of which goes to unbelievable salaries and golden parachutes.
