metamars’s diary, Have scientists discovered the cure for Obama-bot-ism?, prompted me to ponder whether it is time for me to make a new version of Hugh’s Scroll.
Looking at Hugh’s new Obama list, and comparing items on it to his well-known Bush List, I find the compilation disheartening. Hugh has given me at least as much footage for a scroll on Obama in less than three years, as Bush gave us in almost seven years.
I was able to take Hugh’s Scroll of Bush Scandals to several local and area Democratic Party events in the run-up to the 2008 presidential campaign. Naturally, the scroll was positively received, and praised as an effective visual aid. How well will an Obama Scandal Scroll be received at our monthly Democratic Party dinner, if it turns out to be even longer than Bush’s scroll was?
We’ll find out in August, when I roll it out. Looks like I need to buy about three new ink cartridges, eh?
UPDATE- Saturday 11:00 a.m. PDT:
I just compiled Hugh’s Obama List into Pages (Mac word processor).
Hugh’s Bush List was 50,285 words. The scroll is about 60 feet long.
Hugh’s Obama List is currently 105,067 words. When constructed, Hugh’s Obama scroll will be about 125 feet long.
That being said, there were 281 items on Hugh’s Bush list when I made it into a scroll. There are now 260 items on Hugh’s Obama list, but he has documented each entry in more detail than was the case for the Bush list. There may be a need for this, as it was easy to convince Democrats, for instance, of Bush’s perfidy, but you have to go into more detail to get the point across on Obama to these same people

Good luck getting into that dinner, and even better luck getting OUT after you unfurl it…
They’re used to me being the local contrarian.
Sounds like it’s time for a laser printer; I’ve gotten a LOT of use w/o a new toner or cartridge from the Brother HL5040.
For maximum effect, print it on a roll of Charmin.
heh, I thought of that scroll when I read metamars’ diary today. Glad to see you’re taking the non-partisan approach to Hugh scrolls, ET. Getting lectured today by Obama about what “progressives” should care about was just so…Third Way.
fabulous ET!
We do have jed’s list

Go for it, ET! Maybe I should buy some ink cartridge stock?
absolutely…..it’s time!
I believe that the commenter used Hugh’s list without attribution. See metamars current diary on ‘curing Obamabots.’ Hugh was a huge voice here at FDL and deserves credit for his work. He is missed. Much missed.
Where is Hugh posting these days. I heard once that maybe it was Correntewire. Anybody know for sure? And did he leave, or get booted? (Just curious, since it seems a few good posters got the axe in the Rayne days.)
Not going to diss Rayne, but that was a dicey time. Hugh apparently posts periodically at correntewire. Read metamars’
diary for some background. links to Hugh’s explanation of why he no longer posts here.
I’m hoping to unfurl it at a Mark Begich event next month. Hopefully, I can get a dissident from the State Central Committee to hold the other end. We’ll see.
Yes; Correntewire. ;o) I was for a time, but I’ve forgotten my login and passord. (God loves an idiot; she said hopefully.)

heh….
if he’s a two-term prez, i’ll need to take the scroll to an indoor hockey rink to unfurl it.
i’ll volunteer to hold the other end. in the great state of texas, it’s been and will be over 100 every day.
yes.
this has been another episode of simple answers to simple questions.
Good for you ET! Wish I was in Alaska to lend a hand. And fwiw, I miss Hugh around here…
LOL. Probaly think this song is about you, don’t you, don’t you?
Sounded to me like he was immersed in shock doctrine. “It would be a shame to let this crisis go to waste” or words to that effect.
you are right, that’s from Hugh’s Obama list – my apologies

Hi, ET. Thanks for thinking outside the blog/box.
Please take a look at these:link, link and link, for more “outside the blog” ideas. In general, I favor educating the public (always with an easily discoverable pathway to an electoral solution, as subtext), over pleading with legislators and the President. PCCC’s recent action is also good – it’s not a toothless petition, but rather one that carries a credible threat. (See PCCC delivers a credible political threat to Obama) I don’t count PCCC’s action as “pleading”.
Printing up Hugh’s summary list (or the documented list, if you have the $$), and handing them out in public venues: sidewalks right after school (next to the school), streets where you have a captive audience that must stop at red lights, churches and other houses of worship (probably want to think about getting permission, first; definitely if you want access to a church parking lot), and mass transit hubs and stations.
Please note that this reference says that you can print cheaply by using a copier – about 1/10 cent per page, versus about 5 cents per page using a desktop printer.
Personally, I favor educating the Obamabots, but that’s a much more difficult proposition.

Very nice.
Thanks for the work (also to Hugh and any others).
For us scroll-challenged people, who are quite happy to work with multiple pages and staples, how does this translate?
241 pages in 10 point helvetica.
Wow! That’s a damn book, you got there!
Well, broken down into 5 page pamphlet size, there’s about 48 pamphlets’ worth, or almost 1 years’ worth, if they’re distributed once per week. Of course, each pamphlet would have web links, so people who want the full story, can jump online.
PAMPHLETS ARE VERY AMERICAN. MAYBE THERE WOULDN’T EVEN HAVE BEEN A REVOLUTION, WITHOUT THEM.
I SAY, LET’S PAMPHLET THE WHOLE COUNTRY!!!
If you want to stick with the whole scroll paradigm, maybe you should hook up with Christo, the “wrap” artist. He’s still alive.
metamars – maybe we need a new, overtly political Christo to do this sort of stuff.

We could wrap the Statue of Liberty.
Here’s an idea. Print Hugh’s list on Toilet Paper, and offer to stick them in public rest rooms, for free.
Well, realistically, printing in small font on toilet paper might be a hassle (although in business, if your order is massive enough, suppliers tend to find a cost-effective way to supply you).
It might make more sense to just alternate printing “google hugh’s list” and “obama sucks” on each sheet.
Well, I may just have to write another great diary. In a previous, exciting diary, I revealed how the humble squeegee could help save democracy. See
How squeegees can help save America, and your sanity – going beyond blogging to the choir
The followup diary would delve into tissue paper messaging to breaks the plutocratic bonds that are impeding our democratic renaissance.
I think some Republican types, that own small businesses, might find this so amusing, that they might pay for the annotated toilet paper. Maybe even pay extra!
