I’m posting the video of the president’s speech put up a few minutes ago by the White House. Other versions have already been posted, but it is important to see how many comments coming in already at the president’s own Youtube site are very negative toward the speech and toward ongoing U.S. policy decisions having to do with Israel. I have visited with families who’ve known the terror of rocket fire in Sderot. That’s why, as President, I have provided critical funding to deploy the Iron Dome system that has intercepted rockets that might have hit homes, hospitals, and schools in that town and others. Now our assistance is expanding Israel’s defensive capabilities, so that more Israelis can live free from the fear of rockets and ballistic missiles. Because no family, no citizen, should live in fear.

If you were at a drinking game during the speech and were stuck with the word “Palestine,” you walked away sober. If you drew “Iranian nuclear weapon,” they had to carry you out.

…it is stunning — but surprizing? Here in first quarter of 2012? Hardly? Not at all? I am picking not at all.
We Americans were for decades given steady propaganda lines about how Red Soviet Empire and Red China were run by those Nefarious Commies who staged big “supreme” national legislative events where everything put up got passed. How we Americans could be/were smug “knowing” our D vs. R regime was so much superior to that of those Brainwashed Commies. Those dumb Reds who were led around by the nose by corrupt Communist Party Leaders. We Americans were shown photos of Commie Leaders that were/had been doctored by the Wicked Reds to remove Commies who had fallen out of favor or power. We knew that was a hell of a way to run a country. Why did Russians,East Europeans,the vast Asian Empire of Russia put up with it? Why did the Chinese or North Koreans put up with it? Why are Americans putting up with this FlimFlam R vs. D BS? Good questions deserve good answers. Expect no such thing from Ds or Rs.
But as you note above CT it is stunning to see the Ds and Rs acting like they are members of the same party. Oh…wait…what have some of us here at FDL been calling this being so? The Duopoly Party? The Money Party? The Oligarchs Party? The EmpireWarMongers Party? The UniParty?
Back there in 2006 during those terrible days when George W. Bush was playing the part of POTUS with his Darth Vaderish like VP — Dick The Dick — was putting in a performance as the Other Actual POTUS the Ds were telling anyone willing to listen we just had to vote for more Ds to stop the Rs and put GW + D The D in political straitjackets while preparing Impeachment Proceedings. Plenty of Americans did vote for more Ds to be in the U.S.Congress. Just like we were told they do in a Real Democracy and not like how those Commie Dictators ran the Soviet Union or still run China.
Well we know what Nancy Pelosi(D)(Duopoly) then went ahead and did. Took Impeachment Off The Table. And the Ds gave G + D The D more funds for funding and keeping at what they had been doing since early 2003. This then was what brought us to early 2009 when another supposed D — Barack Obama — pulled the same Pelosi Stunt once in the Oval Office. G + D went free. And we Americans got Barry the WarMaker instead of the As Advertised Barry the PeaceMaker.
Well…that was then. Here we are now. Obama is largely condoning and actually doing what Bush did and yet because Barry is a D he is getting cheers and not jeers from the Obots and Dbots.
Americans are being Very Misled again.
See Iraq post March 2003 for how attack on Iran which now seems a given despite Barack Obama suggesting and Telling Lies that it is not will start out. But this Americans Attack On Iran will very likely make the Iraq Debacle seem to have been a prudently engaged attack in comparison.
It is now past being tragic that so many Americans still think and believe the Pentagon and CIA are where the Good Guys come from. Until more and then more than enough Americans figure out Americans are the real and very deadly WarBastards led by a now well past corrupt and rotted WashingtonDC ruled by a Duopoly Party the stunning lack of moral or just plain decent political conduct will keep going in WashingtonDC.
Ahmadinejad, according to Cole, never had more power that a vice president in the US might have. It was always the chief Ayatollah who ran the country. The Cole article I quoted goes further to indicate that formal statements from Khamenei going back years refuted the notion that Iran was seeking a nuclear weapon, basically because it was contrary to Islamic principles.
As shootthatarrow just indicated, it is highly likely that we are being mislead again, the only difference being that this is not Iraq and Bush is not president. I seriously hope that Obama can hold the line. He is certainly not being helped by the fearful American press, which I gather will not publish Khamenei’s statements, because it is not in keeping with the Israel Lobby and Israeli propaganda concerning Iran.

Remember when Sy Hersh’s Iraq reporting was getting too hot for some establishment Fo-Po “experts” — so much so that they all but tried to have him committed to an insane asylum?
Every time Sy spoke out, he saved the day by forcing the neocons to delay launching their planned attacks.

Being I was in High School during the years R.M.Nixon was POTUS it was prudent to pay close attention to what politicians said and did. Still is prudent some 42 years later.I worked a summer job with some fellow Americans who faced going to SE Asia via American Draft AirWays and it was no joking matter for them nor was it for me either.

When I suggest that the U.S. divorce Israel regarding conflict with Iran, I get back accusations that I am being anti-Semitic. How do you argue against ad hominem attacks??
When I argue that the best outcome is no war, no bombing, no deployment of troops and no war with Iran, I get back that it is all about the Bible and some misinterpretation of the prophet’s statement about self-sacrifice on the part of self to the other, to support their belief that we must send our children off to war.
People often argue that parties in the ME are so irrational and belligerent that we cannot just standby, that ‘we just have to intervene’. Usually they have left before I can remember to say that we ought not to initiate a war of aggression on nations who have done us no harm and maybe even if we feel harm, we should think twice about doubling the wrong, by harming others.
I guess this morning I am feeling kind of impotent and helpless to argue the case for peace. Who is it who is being irrational?? Israeli leaders and American war mongers.
