March 16th, less than two months away, will mark the tenth anniversary of the death of Evergreen College senior, Rachel Corrie, in Rafah, near the Egyptian border of the Gaza Strip, as she sought to and succeeded in keeping an Israeli military armored Caterpiller bulldozer from destroying the house of a large Palestinian family.
Her action cost her her life. But her legacy lives on through the work of her parents, Craig and Cindy Corrie, and through the inspiration she has provided to hundreds of thousands of young people, worldwide.
RT TV commentator and reporter, Abby Martin, in an interview with Rachel’s parents, notes:
Rachel served as a symbol for me to really wake up about this issue.
Here’s Martin’s interview:
There will be hundreds of commemorative events worldwide as March 16th approaches. I hope to cover some of the more significant ones here.
If you, like Abby Martin, have been inspired or influenced by Rachel Corrie’s determination on March 16th, 2003, please comment on that here.
Meanwhile, ponder this interview with Israeli journalist Shlomi Eldar about his disgust over the gratuitously cruel carnage wrought by Israeli forces during 2008-2009′s Operation Cast Lead.

Thank you Mr. Teller for this diary.
I try to catch Abby Martin but miss a day here and there. I missed this one.
The fight is possibly the only thing that keep her parents sane – I know that is how I would feel. We should never forget Rachel, never. History will surely honor Rachel, no matter the legal maneuvering and decisions.
Mahalo, ET for all your efforts in keeping Rachel’s memory alive…!
I was delighted to find this interview in my inbox from a google alert for “Gaza”. It is even more heartening to see it here. I do look forward to your coverage of some of the events commemorating Rachel’s death and hopefully spurring a renewal of the struggle here in the ally and funder of Israel, who killed her.
Sitting in the Audience in Anchorage in a HS recruitment concert we’re doing for UAA. Going well. My group plays last – the UAA wind ensemble.
Young people inspire me – these kids. Rachel Corrie
Thank you, ET.
Rachel always inspired me. So did Marla Ruzicka. So young, so much promise, so much good done for the world in such a short time.
ET, I too am inspired by the young, among whom I place most of the people at FDL at least compared with me. And thanks for your post.
I also second the hope of lindaj @ 3, that the Rachel Corrie commemoration help us refocus on the U.S. support of the Netanyahu-Lieberman genocidal policies against the Palestinian people, which is likely to be renewed with a vengeance after Tuesday’s election in Israel. If there is a single issue where Obama is virtually guaranteed to cave during his new term, it is on the rhetorical claim that the Palestinians deserve a state. Even the State Department’s mere finger-wagging at the expanded illegal settlements is likely to stop. Let us not allow this to happen without raising a stink.
Thanks for this, ET.
Thank you, ET. I’ve spent the past couple weeks spending my time immersed in learning about MOTU’s. There’s a vast array of people speaking Truth-to-power.
I respect David Icke’s take on this. It’s Rothchild Zionism. Rothchild Zionism has NOTHING to do with Judaism. That said, I’m reserving judgement on David Icke’s theory of alien blood line domination. Partly because an alternate theory has the Uliminati/Knights of Malta, Knights Templar and “the Bloodlines” remaining pure enough to go full Rosemarys Baby on the world. And playing the Alien card as a full frontal Public Manipulation Fear card. When, in reality, we’re dealing with Dimensional Travel, not galactic.
Not a challenged theory except as to How Many Dimensions exist. Which has the hairs on my neck sticking up.
So, anyhooooo, I sure enjoyed the Disclosure Project at the National Press Club in 2009. Old aerospace guys whistle-blowing before they die.
Or, old aerospace guys cashing in on the Black Op money for once before they die.
Rothchild Zion killed Rachel Corrie.
I got turned on to that back in the late 60s. My tutor called it “the Akashic Records.”
At the time, I was sober. Drove me to drink. Then to Alaska, to escape ramifications.
As a rule, I avoid dimensional travel.
Amazingly, I did not know the story of this young woman slaughtered. Thanks for putting it here. Learn something every day. I will start paying attention to Abby Martin too.
