It was reported about a week ago that a friend of FBI-slain Ibragim Todashev had been arrested on an “unrelated” charge. Ashurmamad Miraliev, who among other things had been escorting Todashev’s father Abdulbaki Todashev during the latter’s attempts to seek an explanation for his son’s death, was supposedly detained for threatening a witness to a 2012 incident in which he and Todashev had been involved.
However, the Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is now reporting that upon his arrest Miraliev was questioned by the FBI for six hours, not about his role in the incident in question that was purportedly the reason for his arrest, but about Todashev specifically, and that his repeated requests for a lawyer were denied. According to a reporter from the local channel 27 in this video, the FBI agents in question were from the Boston office, as were those involved in the Todashev killing, and of course the entire matter is connected to charging Dzhokhar Tsarnaev for the marathon bombing.
CAIR also reports that numerous friends of Todashev have complained to it of threats by the FBI to arrest them if they did not become informants and spy on mosques and the like. It is asking the US Department of Justice to investigate.
The beat goes on.
