It’s over, and now you can kiss your money goodbye in the first of many "emergency" Congressional bills.
If this reminds you of Iraq spending, it should. Many of the same people are going to benefit.
Hint: this does not include you.

it’s a heist
The link clicks through to Ian’s analysis of winners and losers in the bailout. The bill is better than it was in its first incarnation, which isnt saying a hell of a lot.
I’m not advocating total resistance to the bailout, we actually need to do something to stabilize the markets. But this will cost us all the money in the world before it’s over. It should never have been permitted to get this far, but the Bush/Cheney administration gutted all the regulations.
Yes. Exactly. *#@%.
More of a shell game, I think. Where’s the money? Hm…let’s see, not in the pockets of the middle class anymore.
How can we estimate how much we need for a bailout if the banks etc will not show us their books?
Conservatively, ten trillion. With a T.
So this is only the beginning, they’ll be back for more, just as with continuing resolutions for Iraq. And there’ll be just as much pressure to pass each one.
No society that transfers massive wealth from its workers and the poor to the very top of the economic ladder has survived for long.
Don’t expect ours to either.
These guys have been playing like it’s ‘Monopoly’ money: just run it through a copier if you need more, it’s all good to them.
Now they want us to treat that stuff like it’s real money, and give them the benefit of, well, everything.
I wrote my congresscritter this morning and let him know that this bailout bill isn’t much better than the previous version. (’It sucks rocks through a bendy straw’ was my description.)
We could use some better leadership. Now.
Forgive the edit, but what we have currently is not anything resembling leadership.
the question is whether this piece of shit will actually pass. The public hates it, and it’s an election year:
All emphases mine. I think it’s time to get your dialing finger ready.
bah. let’s try that agin, since half my comment disappeared:
So it’s not a done deal. How many Democrats do you think want to go home and tell their constituents they just spent $700,000,000,000.00 of their taxes on Wall Street because Bush told them to? I haven’t spoken to the campaign, but I can’t see this as an easy choice for Allyson Schwartz or anyone else in the Philadelphia area. We just learned last week our city is facing a $450,000,000 deficit, which may delay promised tax cuts; Schwartz supported the Bankruptcy Bill of 2005; Philly’s a Democratic stronghold, but Allyson represents bright-red Montgomery County as well, where there could be trouble.
Note to self, this does not include six and a half BILLION for the pentagon.
Hugs and kisses.
Whoops!SIX HUNDRED BILLION, my bad.
That sounds like a lot. But hey, we have all the money in the world, right?
Yep…especially since they just keep printing it!!
