Frightening situation a couple days ago when the 50 State Project, Pam’s House Blend, and many other progressive blogs went dark as their host Soapblox was hacked.
It revealed a real vulnerability on the support side, where a single overworked and undersupported individual was suddenly unable to cope with an overwhelming event.
The response of the blog community has been wonderful, including offers of free tech support and management help getting the servers set up in a way that will be better protected.
Take home message, good for many of us: ask for help sooner in the process. Don’t wait till things reach the crisis point.
If you want to be part of the solution, there is an Act Blue fundraiser.
We’re trying to raise $17,400 to invest in equipment that will keep the numerous blogs who rely on Soapblox more secure. Thanks for your help!

This is part of building the 21st century progressive infrastructure we will need for many years.
Please consider a donation of whatever size you can reasonably afford today.
And consider an ongoing commitment, even only five dollars, which will sustain the organization in the future.
