Fox's Bill Sammon would say photos of shrinking polar cap ice are subject to debate. (source: climatesafety via Flickr)
Apparently it wasn’t enough for Fox News to insist on calling the public option “the government option” or “the so-called public option” (whatever that means). Chief propagandist Managing editor Bill Sammon also insisted that Fox News talking heads “refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based on data that critics have called into question.”
This is either truly shocking ignorance or appalling dishonesty on Fox’s part. Sammon isn’t just trying to deny that global warming is caused by manmade activity, he’s trying to deny that it’s happening at all, as if historical temperature measurements are somehow subjective or a matter of opinion.
That the 2000s were the warmest decade on record isn’t a “theory” (I’m not even sure what that’s supposed to mean), it’s an indisputable fact, and the so-called Climategate scandal had nothing to do with it. If you want to argue over whether that was caused by carbon emissions or sunspots or geological cycles, fine – I still think you’re a dishonest hack, but at least you’d be arguing about facts on the ground instead of being one of those idiots who claims that because it’s cold today global warming must be a hoax.
And tens of millions of Americans get their “news” from these shameless corporate liars. I weep.

Fox News is to News what the “liberal” President Obama is to liberals

In regard to global warming, this is suggestive.
The world’s population was 3 million in 1960 and now is near 7 billion. The world’s population reached 1 billion in 1804 and 2 billion in 1927.
This has been a fantastic century for population growth despite, for instance, WW I & WW II.
The world’s population is about 4 times what it was a century ago.
Hmmm. 3 billion in 1960.
You’d think Fox would catch a clue and realize that their pointed misinformation campaigns are detectable and will eventually catch up with them:

“Managing editor Bill Sammon also insisted that Fox News talking heads ‘refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based on data that critics have called into question.’”
In the interest of fairness and balance, we might note that said critics are virtually universally dishonest, morbidly stupid poopyheads.
I’m not even sure that there are critics claiming that 2000-2009 was not actually the warmest decade on record, but I could be mistaken.
Again, Sammon is conflating the fake controversy over the science with the (I think) nonexistent controversy over the data.
Damn, that’s probably what I should have said in the post…
Don’t feel bad. When faced with overwhelming mendacity, sometimes it’s hard to pinpoint exactly in what way they’re being mendacious.
Here’s a video I made with Nasa footage of the Artic ice from space which I believe is the source of your two photos.
The footage of the ice sheet melting into history is undeniable evidence that the poles are diapearing and many scientist have predicted that by the summer of 2013 it is possible there will be sea ice left in the summers.
Have a look .

Yeah, that was a highly tweetable nugget, Eli, concise.
Drop “Again, ” and you’ve got 115 characters – room for a shortened URL left over.
Believe it may originally been NASA graphics, not certain due to the source on Flickr — could have been repurposed since government property and public domain.
That would be great if I were on Twitter.
Yeah, with all the hot air at Fox, you’d think they’d know the source.
All the major media networks disappoint me in thier own special way. Fox is the worst of the worst but CNBC isn’t too far behind. Then comes the rest of the nonsense from CNN etc… The last show that I actually had faith in was Moyers Journal.
Hahahahahahaha! Who ever heard of a skeptical news room. They really are right wing wackos over there at Fox News.
I’ve noticed that you liberals call people names when you’re short on facts. Here’s some that might help you mature in your thinking:
1) Only stupid people measure global warming or cooling by watching what the climate is doing on a daily, weekly, even decade basis. Regardless, whether this decade has been the warmest on record is very much in debate.
2) Global cooling is a much bigger threat than global warming. In fact, the warming period a few centuries ago (much warmer than now) resulted in a period of civilization growth; essentially lost with the little iceage that followed. You must be aware that the Vikings were growing crops on Greenland at that time; hence the name.
3) Science doesn’t KNOW yet the major cause of climate change and probably won’t find out as long as 95% of the money spent on research goes only to those scientists that agree to support AGW. … What you didn’t know that. That’s the ignorance that comes from believing everything you read, instead of checking things out on you own.
Finally, read “Cool It.”
How can you conclude that it is universally accepted that 2000 – 2009 was the warmest decade on record? What record? The last 3 decades? Satellite data is only available since the late 70′s and has been refined only in the last 15 years. Before that, there was station data that was highly unreliable and not universally managed. Prior to that there was proxy data which has been shown to be even more unreliable and subjective. Phil Jones (the former CRU head) has stated that we do not know if it was warmer 1000 years ago than today. Anecdotal evidence suggest that it was warmer back then. James Hanson admitted that the 1930′s saw warmer years than this past decade.
Well, your post is:
You’re one of those folks who don’t believe in teh Google, right?

Of course there are other forms of records which document global temperature trends going back tens of thousands of years. I’m sure if you go back far enough — say, to when the earth was still cooling — you’ll find data which you can use to dispute anybody’s claim that this is “the warmest” whenever period of your choice. But you’ll have tough time finding data to support your claim inside the last 500,000 years.
You’re forgetting that the Earth is only 5,000-6,000 years old.
~~ Ed. note: Dammitall, twolf, warn me before you drop one of those, just blew coffee all over my keyboard! ~~
Utter nonsense. First of all, as I suspect some of those links Rayne posted will show, there are consistent measurements of ice cores and ocean sediment that go back hundreds of thousands of years. Second, even using earthbound measurements, the average temperature has been rising for over a century, where temperature measurements could be accurate to within a degree F or two as long as they were done properly.
The irony of you using the phrase “only stupid people” just adds to the fun.
Sadly, for the most part, Fawhk’s Noose is no different than any other tv or radio MSM Noose.
I’d bet my left chestnut other media have similar directives, but they are likely smart enough NOT to put it into printed form. SO they can’t be busted on it.
Is it hubris or stupidity on the part of Murdoch’s Minions?
You sure you weren’t a com studies grad and a journo in a prior life?

Those aren’t photos, of course.
