With great fanfare, Rep.Todd Akin (R-MO) leads the Teabgging crowd, gathered in front of the Capitol, in the Pledge of Allegiance:
"As we renew our commitment to the Red, White, and Blue, let us with boldness proclaim the fact that we are one nation under God. It is all together fitting and proper that we should do this AND it drives the Liberals crazy."
He then proceeds to flub it.
He also said, "from the storm tossed pilgrims who came to this land and gave America her first constitution…"

That whole “indivisible” thing is so inconvenient. Also.
Ooh, thanks for the video! What fun. That’s my wingnut Congressman second row, second from right. Got an email yesterday saying he’d be there. He’s really moving up the ranks of teh crazy to have such a plum spot at this fine function.
Wow, Freudian slip leaving out “indivisible,” Congressman? Your secessionist desires peeking through?
There would have been no doubt if that were Rick Perry at the podium.
in-DUH-visible
Secessionist!
Not only that but clearly a traitor for not knowing the pledge by heart.
Perhaps a fifth columnist in our midst?
you are on to something.
Those wingnuts have a hard time memorizing short oaths & pledges.
“indivisible” – I think the Tenthers want to forget that part. Ask Rick Perry.
Its a wonder how these republicans can even tie their shoes in the morning . . .
If it weren’t a waste of electrons and paper, I’d suggest we all fax copies of the pledge to Akin’s office…
We shouldn’t be too hard on Akin for the flub. I mean, he’s gotta be pretty nervous. After all, he is talking to a crowd of One Trillion. Well…I’m pretty sure that’s the estimate Fox will be throwing out there.
Don’t forget, Obama and Roberts flubbed the oath of office.
What’s wrong with letting these reactionaries and know-nothings secede? Visiting their Randian utopia would be like going back in time. A time travellers Disneyland.
Pretty much takes away the Republican claim to still be the party of Lincoln.
Roberts was the flubber. See my 9.
We can’t let them secede. They pay the taxes and have all the guns.
No, Roberts flubbed the oath.
and here.
Ha!
Rep.Todd Akin (R-MO) Commie! Commie! Commie! He wants America to fail he wants Americans to pay more for medicine than Commies do! This is Treason! Sorry I’m just trying to act like they do.
Like Marriage Vows:)
Ah, the smell of GOP meltdown at high tea.
Michelle always has this wide-eyed, adoring, worshipful expression on her face when she is looking at a MALE Republican speaking.
LOL. Just the thing. They certainly have a hard time remembering them after the wedding is over.
Sounds like Barney Frank to me.
Hyperthyroid.
Trollie has a thang for Barney Frank!
Is it just males or do Crazy males get more adoring? I wonder how her face would light up if someone in Congress played a joke on her and read a Hitler speech and replaced all the lines about Jews with Immigrants and Jewish Businesses became Government Healthcare.
Of course we keep a camera panned on her the whole time.
For what it’s worth, Lincoln said “this nation, under God”.
LOL
Also in Governor Sanford’s case that the GOP hates Brown Women. Or in Rush’s case the GOP hates Brown Boys.
just what was it that was supposed to “drive the liberals crazy”? I must have missed it.
Mentioning God? Saying the Pledge at all?
P.S. I do kind of take issue with pledging my allegiance to a piece of cloth, but it doesn’t make me crazy when someone else wants to do it.
Don’t kid yourself about who has the guns sambot.
Seconded
Saying the Pledge

breaking – shooting at Ft Hood, 7 dead, 12 wounded. shooter apprehended, no word as to whether he was military or not
No mention about paying the taxes, eh?
…“drive the liberals crazy…”
He forgot the part, “with laughter..” Again, he’s nervous, what with that whole talking to a teeming mass of Five Trillion Enthusiastic (read: “obviously unmedicated”) Teabaggers.
Rep. Todd Akin tells us that:
“From the storm tossed pilgrims who came to this land and gave America her first constitution, to George Washington and his troops who miraculously escaped from Long Island in the fog…”
And then Ronald Reagan invented movable type and the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.
The Pilgrims gave us our first Constitution? Really? I guess they unveiled it at Thanksgiving. The next year they gave us our first Macy’s parade.
When precisely was it that, “George Washington and his troops who miraculously escaped from Long Island in the fog?” I think that it is Rep. Akin that needs to escape from the fog.
Rep. Akin’s has displayed a seemingly absolute ignorance of our national history. The historical “facts” he cites did not happen. The teabagger moron masses are led by imbecilic buffoons. The dumb leading the dumber.
And they wonder why we don’t take them seriously.
reports of a second shooter – still at large
The latest word is that there were 9 million teabaggers on the Mall. Maybe more.
The storm tossed pilgrims gave America her first constitution?
And here I thought Moses brought the United States Constitution down from heights of Mount Horeb in the Sinai…
Don’t forget that Al Gore invented the internet.
“And then Ronald Reagan invented movable type…”
Was that right after he discovered fire and the wheel? Damn, was he good.
THe settlers at Jamestown brought the Constitution with them. No doubt about it. s/
simplebot, your home schooling hasn’t served you well but then if ignorance is bliss you must have reached nirvana. Now run along and go play with whatever you play with.
holy shit. Thank doG my son, who is stationed there, came home yesterday on leave.
praises be.
fyi – it’s a very short drive for oldnslow and I should you find yourself visiting in the future.
Nice dodge.
Prove you can read:
jfc! Pentagon reporting 3rd shooter – at large
TradMed bobbleheads goin’ straight for the Ft Dix terra, terra, terra angle -
I think it was after he killed the dinosaurs.
Are there no people of color who partake in sipping tea or is this tea party restricted to Earl Grey teabags only ?
I’ve been reviewing the history of the colony as it’s been written in Wikipedia. So far, no mention of a constitution, nor do I expect to find one. The Mayflower Compact was signed by 41 out of 100-plus colonists. In it, they agreed to live together under common laws or some such. Not a proper constitution as I’d define the term.
I’ll actually give you that one, since according to this, Texas ranks 35th (.94 per dollar paid). Of course, that still has TExas doing better than the bulk of deep blue states.
Dog blessed you and BTW HB
So glad he is with you. As a parent I would have been nuts until I learned something. Welcome home to your son.
Holy shit. That’s good karma.
Oh, shit, the troll’s go crazy with that karma thingy.
!!
OK, he created the internet! Happy?
Earl Beige?
What a relief! Give him an extra hug.
Thanks!
To give him the benefit of the doubt, I suppose he’s referring to the Mayflower Compact — but it’s hard to give Akin the benefit of any doubt.
and the Mayflower Compact was hardly a Constitution.
Reading comprehension: Fail.
OT Shootings at Ft. Hood Texas – reports seven killed, 12 wounded. Up to 3 gunmen reported. Per MSNBC
From the Wapo:
“It said one gunman was in custody and another was on the loose. It added the two suspects were in military uniform.”
This is bad.
But of course, Texas and Florida are the exceptions of Red states paying more than they receive, if you actually bother to read the link.
Given your recent display of reading comprehension fail, I do doubt your abilities however.
I think the phrase I used was: “Prove you can read.” Appears you failed that test. Good try, though.
One in custody.
Since I think a moveable type press requires at least some metal, I’d say “after”. Fire would be an enabling technology.
Honore just told CNN one gunman neutralized and the other one cornered. They had M-16′s.
One grunt wigging out I can understand, but 2, I don’t know about that.
I suspect he could be upset anyway. When things like that happen you wonder if someone you know was involved.
Absolutely. The extra hug was meant for both of them.
That was my assumption. Of course, he could just be imagining something. That would fit in with the theme of his speech.
my apologies to you for the o/t
Pentagon still maintaining there is a 3rd shooter at large
Not talking about the states, we are all Americans.
I’m talking about the 50% of people who don’t pay any fedreral taxes.
C’mon give Al some credit.
Reuters quoting local Fox station that it was at the “Soldier Readiness Center.”
I’m not going to say what my fear is on this.
on the plane yesterday with my son were a bunch of MP’s, who are gathering from around the country at Camp Atterbury in Indiana for a large exercise, and would be the only people walking around Ft. Hood actually carrying weapons.
no apologies required, cbl
I know what mine are.
Tally up to 20 wounded now.
I’m non-military
what do you two fear?
Kay Bailey Hutchison just said 30 wounded
They’re the only ones normally allowed to carry them. There are quite a few other ways that people could have them on an Army base, particularly one as large as Ft. Hood. It’s even possible someone sneaked them onto the post for the purpose of whatever this is.
With high velocity rounds we can expect the death toll to rise.
Could be a couple things.
My first reaction was somebody wigged out and opened fire. With more than 1 shooter, however, I sense a plan. That’s scary. A wigged out grunt is one thing, a couple bent on murder is something else.
her statement also said all of those killed were in uniform
Suspect in custody in late 30s – not confirmed whether a member of military.
Getting a weapon from the armourer isn’t hard to do.
Ammunition is usually controlled.
there was talk in the local paper recently about relaxing security/access somewhat on Sundays – am trying to confirm
Things are prolly tighter than they were in my time. Even though I was Navy I could go to the (army) base armourer and check out an M-16 and all the ammo I could carry. Just tell ‘em I was gonna spend some time on their range.
From CBS/AP:
The base has been locked down. Web access appears to have been cut off. At least, I cannot access any sites in the Ft. Hood domain. (That’s not a hard thing to do – every U.S. military installation has some sort of firewall that can be clamped down quickly.) They’re apparently trying to determine that everyone is present and accounted for.
News Conference @ 3:30 local time
Austin American Statesman – now reporting 3rd shooter wounded but not in custody
Statesman – in Texas? *g*
Going here so I don’t have to keep bouncing between threads.

Sambot said:
“We can’t let them secede. They pay the taxes and have all the guns”
Absolutely Incorrect.
We can debate about the guns, but one thing is for sure. The two largest generally liberal and Democratic voting states, California and New York, far and away lead the nation in tax revenues contributed to the United States treasury (a combined total of nearly $570 billion, or almost a quarter of all money collected).
Furthermore, the states that pay the highest rate of Federal taxes per capita are (in order): District of Columbia, Delaware, Connecticut, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Nebraska and Illinois.
Eight of the ten on this list are pretty much the Bluest of the Blue states. Of the other two, Minnesota leans blue (Obama carried the state with 54% of the vote), and only Nebraska could be listed as a Republican state.
By contrast, the 10 states with the lowest tax rates paid into the Federal treasury are (starting at the lowest): West Virginia, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Carolina, Montana, Maine, Alabama, Kentucky, Arizona, Utah. Of these the only ones carried by Obama were New Mexico and Maine.
This is one of the great ironies of the current political climate. A huge percentage of the people who whine and gripe the loudest about the federal government and taxes actually pay far, far *less* than most Americans! Of course, these gripers happily drive on federally funded highways, fly on federally regulated airlines, eat federally inspected food, vacation in national parks, benefit from federally funded research and development projects (including the internet), etc. etc.
Meanwhile, states that tend to vote Democratic generally have more productive economies and contribute more than their fair share in taxes, paying the way for the gripers.
If some of these red states ever did actually act to secede, boy, I’d be all for not letting the door hit them on the ass on the way out. The United States as a whole would then be wealthier and better educated, and obviously social progress would be far less impeded.
Unfortunately the reality is that the seceding states probably wouldn’t be able to survive on their own for more than a few years before devolving into bass-ackward third world Clepto-Theocracies.
indi-risible, I’d say
I couldn’t agree more, Liberals that live in those States would just move or they might be forced out… They would become 3rd World/Developing Nations inside of 5 years. Some of the States you mention have no real economy anymore. Look at SD and their involvement in current history of credit cards -

The States that would secede would find themselves in similar situations, but would big business bail them out, that’s the question.
August 30, 1776. Apparently Rep. Akin was able to stay awake in history class on the days they covered shootin.
I’ll give Akins that one. That evacuation was a rather ignoble defeat and beginning to the Revolutionary War. It was miraculous in that about 9.000 troops escaped capture. It sounded to my ears like Akins was conflating the Battle of Long Island with Washington crossing the Delaware River. I’m still not totally convinced that is not what he was referring to.
I am still pretty sure that the Pilgrims didn’t have a damn thing to do with the Constitution.
Todd Adkin is a genius.
He did do what drives liberals crazy.
He was wrong.
What makes us angrier than that?
Since when are Long Island and Brooklyn the same?
I’ve never ever, until this wiki entry, seen the Battle of Brooklyn Heights referred to as the Battle of “Long Island.” And I’ve read enough revolutionary American history to have studied that battle, and the evacuation from the location, in several different sources.
Only in the most technical sense that Brooklyn is at the westernmost end of Long Island could you call something that occurred in Brooklyn the same as something that occurred on Long Island. Brooklyn was a separate settlement from New York until the last century.
Maybe Akin’s people sneaked into the Wiki to change it so their boss wouldn’t look so stupid.
Southern states get more back from the federal government than they pay taxes. People in other states have guns too.
I also liked, when everyone raised their hands to their hearts, one doofus put his hand on the LEFT side of his body, not the RIGHT, where the heart is. And even if the heart were ON the left, his hand was up around his collar bone.
Republicans are SO STUPID! They try SO hard, and always come off as utterly dumb.
“I pledge allegiance to and wrap myself in the flag
of the United States Against Anything Un-American
And to the Republicans for which it stands,
Two nations, under Jesus, rich against poor,
with curtailed liberty and justice for all
except blacks, homosexuals, women who want abortions,
Communists, welfare queens, treehuggers, feminazis,
illegal immigrants, children of illegal immigrants,
And you if you don’t watch your step.”
Matt Groening
It does “drive me crazy” that an elected member of Congress cannot properly recite the Pledge of Allegiance. I learned it in kindergarten. Was he born here?
I guess he’s a secessionist. No indivisible, eh?
