Isn’t it surprising that, so far, no one has noticed how many attributes of cults could also be attributed to Glenn Beck’s attempts to run the world?
Four pepperoni Hot Pockets — is that it? * snerk *
SOmehow I suspect they’ve got a bunch of Goldline souvenir coins ready to go to the vendors they’ll be stationing all around the reflecting pool.
Wish I could write rap… I can sense one here, with the four pepperoni hot pockets and the goldline souvenir coins, stationed with vendors around the reflecting pool.
minted in Beck’s image
There is an interesting post at HP by Clarence B Jones of the MLK Institute at Stanford. Insted of opposing Beck’s rally he thinks we should, extend the hand of fellowship to Beck and his followers at his rally saturday.
This is a much more positive way to celebrate Dr King’s legacy by offering to join hands even if they refuse the offer.
I saw and heard Dr King at the march to Grosse Pointe High School from Detroit a few months before the MOW. I was 14 and rode my bike with a friend and will never forget his words, he gave an early version of the I have Dream Speech.
It was many years before i understood the how lucky i was to have experienced that speach and how much it shaped my young mind.
Dr Kings message was for all Americans and we need to find ways to include everyone even Beck’s followers or we have truly lost this struggle.
It’s a beautiful thought, wayoutwest
Beautiful Thought, meet Beautiful Mindlessness.
Does anyone besides me see the satiric aspects of what Glenn is doing?
Beck’s rally is clearly intended as a satire on Obama himself, who has at various times compared himself, or been compared to, Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, FDR, and any number of American saints and icons.
Let’s face it, the rhetoric surrounding our President got pretty heady, back in the day. Many progressives were talking about the guy almost as if he were a religious figure. Of course, this was before we found out how breathtakingly inept he is.
All those hagiographic comparisons and all that hyperinflated rhetoric must surely have galled the Right’s kibe. Now the audacious Mr. Beck is paying us back in kind. Don’t look now, but we’re being parodied.
Welcome to the Dome
actually I don’t think Glenn Beck sees the satire
I don’t think Glen Beck knows the meaning of the word “satire.” Along with the meaning of about another several thousand words.
