Word just came in that the owners of the park have rescinded their request to have the park cleared, too many people there.

“Late last night, we received notice from the owners of Zuccotti Park – Brookfield Properties – that they are postponing their scheduled cleaning of the park, and for the time being withdrawing their request from earlier in the week for police assistance during their cleaning operation. Our position has been consistent throughout: the City’s role is to protect public health and safety, to enforce the law, and guarantee the rights of all New Yorkers. Brookfield believes they can work out an arrangement with the protesters that will ensure the park remains clean, safe, available for public use and that the situation is respectful of residents and businesses downtown, and we will continue to monitor the situation.”

A small but important victory! Meanwhile, Denver didn’t hold.
sweet!
Sad about Denver, sounds like all the cities got together and decided to use the 14th as clear day – OR do you think it was DHS’ idea?
We are still holding watch over Denver here as the police are still on-site …
Note that we know that state police are on-site:
Occupy Comix
You don’t think this will be over because of some executive’s order, any executive ?
It’s not a government,by the government and for the government though some star spangled “(s)elected” assholes might assert otherwise.
I think we should assume that DHS is coordinating #occupy surveillance nationwide on some level. They’ve established so called law enforcement “fusion centers” all over the country and Denver, to my knowledge, is one of the major DHS/Fusion training centers in the country. That said, Denver didn’t have nearly as many occupying “boots on the ground” which seemed, for now, to be the difference maker in NY.
I swear to God that it was news stations like the CBS affiliate in Denver that ginned up the eviction. Wanting to create news, and calling Hickenlooper and all the agencies to find out which one had jurisdiction to kick them them hippies the F outta there. Finally someone decided it was state land, so the state patrol, I think, had to decide when and how to shut it down. Asshats.
CBS showed footage at ten of a puddle on concrete they claimed was urine, a sign they claimed was ‘defaced’ by Occupiers, and those nasty tents, oh shit, oh dear. How messy and such anarchy!
Mzchief’s right; state police, not patrol.
Great link, but I’m not sure that will last. Something about the mentality of comix readers maybe. But I guess anything is possible.
Fox News readers poll shows support for the Occupy Wall Street protests at 58 percent, despite the incredibly loaded framing (currently Total Votes: 297,493).
How long before they take that down?

Bloomberg, this is not syria or libya, you cannot silence us with arrests just because you don,t like what we are saying.this is the u.s.a we the people have rights (sorry)
soon
I’m watching the 9news online stream right now. What’s striking is the overwhelming show of force, storm troopers in full riot gear, including “non-lethal” shotguns etc. to forcefully remove some remaining 50 or so occupiers.
Seems like this is the point, a public performance of force.
Er…can ya tell me how to watch?
Storm troopers. Jeez.
It is finally being brought home to the PTB thaat money is not the ONLY form of speech, and they are scared shitless to find they do not control the whole supply of it. Crushing actual human speech with force is the only response they know. I wouldn’t want to be the one who has to launder their underwear right now lol.
recommended and tweeted
thanks Elliot
great news
I’ll cross post this on mysite too
Well, not so much anymore………. I’m sure a few (or more) choice words are being circulated in gov and corporate boardrooms and laughs and sniggers. Words like “Rabble” would probably be the least of them
Now THIS site is moderating too? WTF going on?
This sounds great, and I want to be hopeful, but I think there’s a distinct possibility that this was a calculated tactical move on the part of the authorities, to wait on “cleaning” and arresting until the crowd may possibly thin out when the weather gets a little cooler next week, to avoid another major media event, like the 700 arrests on the Brooklyn Bridge.
“Occupy Wall St. Prepares for Crackdown — Will Bloomberg Try to Tear It All Down?
Free health care, a sanitation team, a public library, solar power, and free childcare are just a few of the services the Occupy Wall Street protesters are providing.”

Sounds like they’re in for the long haul to me.
Doesn’t surprise me. I said last night that when the AFL-CIO joined the action, the authorities would back down. The police beating up a bunch of hippies is one thing. The union guys could, and would, shut down the city.
Sorry for the slow reply, I’m working and attempting to multitask multiple tasks!

The stream is still live though not much left to see.
Ding! Notice the operative word “postpone”. Postpone the cleaning of the Park.
The ruthless PTB/MOTU ruling class elite aren’t going anwyhere, but more importantly neither are the discontented angry but peaceful 99% who are amassed outside their gated homes and walled off places of work. We got the numbers that really count, the people numbers 99-1.
Just a little more info. The last stand, according to one of the spokespeople, was a core group who locked arms surrounding the “thunder dome,” the food truck from which the occupiers had been feeding Denver’s down town homeless for over 20 days.
He’s speaking now. His name is Mitch Shenausa sp? And he’s doing a fine job.
Not I coincidence I think. They want to suppress turnout for tomorrow’s Oct. 15 events.
Did Bloomy get something is his eye ? Cause I could swear I just saw him blink.
Why do you assume the union guys could and would shut down the city? When’s the last time NY saw a general strike? I’m curious.
But not yet —- I just voted.
If the police had attacked the union guys, they would have struck back. It doesn’t have to be everybody, but there was enough representation by critical unions, like transit workers, to pretty much shut it down. More to the point, it is not even whether they would actually do it, so much as the potential that they would. That is not a chance Bloomberg would be willing to take, as it would destroy him politically. The fact that the unions are there also indicates that they are also becoming radicalized by the current economic and political conditions. Enough so that a wide ranging strike has become more of a possibility than in the past.
I’ve long suggested the only way to turn the tide of deregulation, repression and repair or change our system of governance will HAVE to include national strikes, labor stoppages, etc.
Perhaps, labor’s inclusion will not coopt OWS but enhance it.
Only time will tell . . . my crystal ball is clouded cuz this is all so new, and growing . . . I still find it difficult that Occupy is real and happening!!!
I’m happy, hopeful and dreadfully fearful . . . who KNOWS how this progresses daily, much less turns out in the end.
Regardless of any other fact, the status quo has been rocked more than it ever has since the 60′s, civil rights, antiwar and urban riots in Detroit, LA, etc.
That alone is incredibly astonishing.
