Adding to the surreality of the week, Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead yesterday in a hotel room in Vancouver. There were no signs of foul play and nothing immediately apparent as to cause of death, a lot of speculation about a drug overdose but from what I can see, that’s based just on the fact that he had checked himself into rehab last April. So, it’s too early to know.

But I thought this song would be a good one for today, for all of us:

What follows is just some Gleek recollections on my part:

I wasn’t a big Gleek, but I enjoyed the show in its early days. I liked Monteith’s character Finn, a hard role to play, the quarterback glee club singer. Montieth’s real life and onscreen girlfriend Lea Michele was always going to be a star, a Streisand big voice.

The biggest wow for me was Heather Morris (Brittany S. Pierce) in the “Britney/Brittany” episode, I had no idea Morris was once a backup dancer for Beyoncé – until that Britney Spears episode.

Another surprise was Kevin McHale (Artie Abrams). Prior to Glee, he was in the boy band NLT, yet he’s a very convincing wheelchair bound kid.

Glee was good television in the age of reality crap TV. I’m sorry he left us, he seemed a genuinely good person. Here’s some reaction from his castmates and crew.
