The Norwegian Jewel

In honor of our friends Ruth & Spud’s voyage of discovery from New Orleans to Belize, I thought it would be fun to talk about dream cruises. First off, I’ve never been on a cruise, and of course today’s cruises are quite different from the ocean crossings back in the days before air travel, or its youth, when getting across the ocean meant going by ship – obviously. But let’s not let reality get in the way of good fun.

Cruises have always been the ideal setting for mysteries or romance (thinking Death on the Nile, Now Voyager, and An Affair to Remember to name a few vintage classics) so in my dreams I’m there.

Where are you hankering to go? Looking for history, like the Mayan ruins of Ruth & Spud, or physical adventure Windjammer style? Or pure unabashed relaxation? Would you leave the kids at home or go the Disney way? MegaShip or tramp steamer?

A friend of mine’s done several jazz cruises, she loves the music and the dancing, and she’s met a number of interesting people, now friends. And there are all sorts of learning cruises.

Or is cruising for you a “been there, done that”?

Where would you go – and how would you get there?
